Hoppumm at small restaurant at Churchgate serving Sri Lankan food. Have been a couple of times and always loved the food and warm service. For starters the Corn vadai in Veg and Isso Vadai (Prawn) dish were yum. All starters are come with a variety of chutneys. The Veg Moilee in the mains is a pure delight for people who like coconut based curries. The mains can be eaten with different authentic pancakes called hoppers. I had the egg and traditional hopper and simply loved it. They have a nice varieties of coolers to go with the food. Yet to try out the desserts, hopefully will be back soon.
I mean....Hoppumm is a place to be.How can a place be perfect in everything? The restaurant serves SriLankan food and it’s worth trying.Taste wise all the dishes we tried here were fantastic.Hoppumm has simple and elegant atmosphere.Recommended Beverages -Alam Neer.Watermelon & Jalapeño cooler &Pineapple Cooler. The Appetiser were something different. Our recommendation-Cheese Pol RotiMini coconut Pol RotiPolos RollThe main course were unique too...We loved the Veg Moliee which was a coconut based curry. Infact it was so delicious that we had 2 portions of it.The Ceylon Mushroom Kottu and Mushroom Ceylon Curry both were nice.We were served with Hopper in the main course which was like a round disc made with fermented rice pancake and it was the best part about the dinner.Just the pineapple curry was average! The overall staff is quite helpful and they know what they’re serving.Price wise the restaurant is pocket friendly. In the desserts we tried the Jaggery Hopper which was divine. Our overall experience was quite delightful.Mumbai genuinely needs restaurants like hoppumm to enjoy more of SriLankan food and that too...so delicious!Surely visiting this place soon.
HoppuumMumbai has a plethora of nice eateries where the taste lingers on but the hunger is difficult to satiate. Trying out something new is always my lookout and after saturating the taste buds of different cuisines, it’s time to try out the flavors of Sri Lanka.Yes, Mumbai has its very own authentic Sri Lankan restaurant, serving the finest food. This is their second branch in Mumbai and first branch is already running well in Pali Hill Bandra West. The name itself is a mix of Appams from the South and Hoppers, Sri Lanka’s staple meal is an Appam. Here you will get seven different types of Appams. The seating was comfortable and cozy. Around 15-20 people can seat and enjoy the food. The place is already popular with people streaming in and out in regular flow.To start off, the servers were really having a good knowledge and polite. Started with two refreshing drinks namely Watermelon and Jalapeno Cooler & Tamarind Sour. I like the second one more.We started off with Maalu Cutlet and Isso Vadai. Both the dishes with distinct flavors and paid tribute to the heritage. Maalu Cutlet is basically fish cutlets served with Moju Dip and Kochichi Mayo Dip while Isso Vadai is freshly fried Shrimps coated with lentil batter. In Mains we tried Mutton Kottu (Flanky Paratha with mutton tossed in Hoppuum Special Gravy), Ceylon Chicken Curry (Chunks of chicken in tossed in spicy Ceylon curry) and Prawn Moilee (Medium sized prawns cooked in thick coconut milk curry) with Spinach Appam and Neer Dosa. Both curries were really made well with right amount of spices. It was a literally burst of flavors. In desserts, we had their home-made Jackfruit Ice Cream & Cream Cheese and Fresh Fruit Hopper. Needless to say both the desserts were amazing. I like Jackfruit Ice Cream more. One visit to this place it’s not enough. So, I will be visiting this place again in some time. What about you guys?? Please visit this place ASAP for amazing food.Food: 5/5Service: 5/5Décor: 5/5Value for Money: 5/5P.S: The review is strictly depending on my personal experience.
We dined at this all new joint located right outside Churchgate station. They’ve got a really premium locale right next to umame and the beer cafe and barely a two mins walk from Churchgate station. They serve only Sri Lankan food and now that I think of it there aren’t too many places that serve this cuisine. It’s a small little joint with seating on the mezzanine floor but boy, is it doing well for itself. They’ve got a really brilliant manager who is taking care of the place really really well. He’s really friendly and suggests some great dishes for you to try. They serve different types of Sambal along with the food - the spicy lunimiri Sambal, the sweet sini or caramelised onion Sambal and the pol Sambal - a garlicky one with coconut. We tried tasting portions of almost everything on the menu and were stuffed. Here’s what we ate:1. Elumas pattis - this was hands down a winner for me. It had a really spicy lamb mince mixture stuffed inside a deep fried pastry and was heaven in a single bite.2. Isso vadai - the isso vadai was a batter fried mini shrimp cutlet3. Maluu cutlets - these were minced fish cutlets which were crumbed and fried.4. Egg and cheese hopper - just loved loved loved this one. It had four different variants of cheeses, spice from the podi and the crispness of the hopper complemented the cheesiness and the whole experience was divine. We then moved onto trying the different curries along with the hoppers available. Here’s what we tried:1. Prawns Moilee - this was a tangy, orange base gravy with some prawns.2. Black mutton - a peppery sort of mutton gravy which had really tender meat.3. Ceylon chicken curry - a red spicy chicken curry which had oomphs of flavour.4. Srilankan chicken curry - this was a thick, creamy curry with a subtle taste.5. Cantaloupe prawns curry - the prawns curry was quite the usual. We also gave the mutton kottu which is shredded mutton mixed with kottu Paratha. Quite enjoyed it.I think the most enjoyable experience was the Caramel and Jaggery Hopper. This had coconut milk mixed with caramel and jaggery in the centre of the hopper and was meant to be consumed by hand by dipping the hopper in the creamy milk base in the centre. The whole dish was a perfect balance of sweetness with the alternate pop of caramel. Really enjoyed it.We also tried some of their freshly made in house drinks like the pineapple and the jaggery with ginger. Really enjoyed both. The pricing of the food was also really great. The food wasn’t too expensive and the place was inviting and cosy. Will definitely recommend for a different experience and a different sort of cuisine.
This place has closed down for ever. In its place now is a pet store called Fur Bar. Which has everything for pets
| There is no love sincerer than the love of food || ➡️ George Bernard Shaw.....Its very rare that you reminisce the taste of a dish long after youve eaten it.. well in my case I cant stop my myself from thinking about the absolute indulgence experience of eating @hoppumm s Prawn Moilee 🍤 + Traditional Hoppers served along side some lipsmacking chutneys. This Sri Lankan food experience, is a food explorers delight and ultimate destination.Cant wait to enjoy yet another hearty meal at @hoppumm .. added to my list of must eat food stations
Authentic and Simply Fabulous. Everything. The Black Mutton Curry, Paratha, the Hoppers, Veg Stew and Fish curry all delicious.Service was warm and friendly and very efficient. Perhaps the food came too quickly but the place is small and they need to turn tables especially an a weekend. Not very busy tonight.Very reasonable priced too. We paid RS 700 per head and ate sumptuously. Will be going back soon and often.
Came here for an office lunch! Was delighted by the range of curries and the richness in the food. Highly highly recommended
Amazing place ! Not so amazing food ... Great but most curries are very sweet. So sweet its like a kheer not curry. Definitely added sugar that shouldnt be there
Cosy little Sri Lankan restaurant. Good food and reasonably priced with some good service.
Excellent service ! Very Courteous staff . Authentic , Fairly Priced Sri Lankan Food .
Good Sri Lankan cuisine - small place with around 28 places, on ground floor and mezzanine. Food is excellent- the appams, vegetarian moillee and Sri Lankan vegetarian stew are tasty and not spicy. The alam neer mocktail is superb - tastes somewhat like sugarcane juice. So were the Polos Rolls, stuffed with tender jackfruit.
Excellent sri-lankan food. The quantities are a little small, but you must try their neer dosa and string hoppers!!
Hoppum at Churchgate , is a welcome blend of the hitherto untried Sri Lankan cuisine, and our Kerala cuisine.Hoppers or Appams...so aptly named Hoppams.Chicken poti Roti or rice flatbread stuffed with chicken were delicious and so was another chicken dish ( it had a tongue twisting name) where chicken bits , along with pieces of Roti, were tossed n fried with an array of not very easy to guess spices...the taste was akin to a chicken frankie.Loved an eggplant dish...redolent with mustard and coconut milk...very unusual and yummy. The Sri Lankan curry was also very nice....as were the Appams.A word of caution- the curries are a bit heavy with the richness of coconut cream.Ended the meal with the tastiest jackfruit ice cream I ve ever eaten.Feel like actually visiting Sri Lanka! On the flip side, the prices are very deceiving , as they seem very inexpensive but the portions are really miniscule. Also, the decor seems Spartan n could do with a bit of pep.But , for a foodoholic, its definitely a spot worth visiting. And not to forget the obliging staff.
Super Sri Lankan good. The chicken curry was yum. Will surely visit again.
A small eatery with reasonably priced and tasty dishes of Srilankan and Ceylonese heritage. Seating is at the upper level. Staff is energetic and helpful with the menu. We ordered Alam neer and pineapple and basil cooler in drinks and mini coconut oil roti, veg moulee combo with string hoppers, maalu fish cutlets and vatalappam desert. A wide variety of sambal and chutneys are served with the dishes. All the dishes were good except for the maalu fish cutlets which were ok. A good place for a reasonable meal.
Just wowwww ...everything tastes like its made out of great experience and skill
The portion size is too small and even the spiciest curries have sweet undertones.
Service was awful, took 45 minutes and half of the things didnt arrive but food was great. On Holi is worth noticing. They did not tell us that they were slower than usual though.
The menu is small but delicious and save some room for dessert!
Good food though both the taste and menu was very different from what we hd in Sri Lanka
Enjoyed Srilankan dishes and hoppers. Cosy place with good staff and services.
Welcome Sri Lanka!!One of the very few restaurants serving Srilankan in Mumbai....The two stars less are for service. Rushed.Food quality & taste are excellent.Prawn Moilee was very good. Did try a few dishes but the names are tongue twisters. One brinjal thing was passable. As for the drinks. Melon Jalapeno was good. Imli thing okay. But go for Alam Neer, its a perfect mix, starts with Sweet then sour & then the ginger smooths in !!! Wow.As for the deserts we were not asked & we didnt order !!!If only the service was not haywire would have given full five.
Very bad service, the curry was very sweet, they refused to make it spicy as they said its premade.. Would not recommend this
The food is quite close to Sri Lankan. Good effort by the chef.
