Built in 1831 by a Hindu merchant named Dhakji Dadaji, this beautiful temple attracts numerous devotees daily. And more so on Diwali and Navaratra. On these two occasions, Shri Mahalakshmi is believed to come alive and grant the wishes of her worshippers. The other two deities housed here are Shri Mahasaraswati and Shri Mahakali. The vernacular domestic architecture of the temple and its unique surroundings, dotted with sweet and flower shops, make Mahalakshmi Temple an integral part of Maharashtra tourism.

Its good and well managed though especially in the recent times of Covid. I visited on 26th Feb 2021, but if you are a travel enthusiast than not much is there to do here. Also, photography is strictly banned so I couldnt take much pictures over here, but Im putting those that I managed to take somehow.Flowers and sweets, nothing is allowed right now and be careful if you carry your child for they wouldnt be allowed to enter the temple as well. This is done in regard to ensure the childs safety who are easily susceptible to the virus.Rest go and have a fine time if you are a spiritual person or want to explore the religious part of India in Mumbai. There are many temples near as well. So you can visit them also.Timings are from 6am to 9pm ISTj

This temple located on Bhulabhai Desai Road is a very famous temple of Goddess Mahalakshmi. The idols of Goddesses Mahakali and Mahasaraswati are also enshrined at this temple. It is on the seashore at the northern side of Malabar hills. The temple is close to Mahalakshmi railway station. For having gone there you may also find time to visit other two temples of Lord Tryambakeshwar and Lord Mahadev near this temple. The waves of the Arabian Sea form a perfect background to this holy shrine. One can reach here easily by means of local transport in Mumbai. The location of the temple with sea shore as backdrop is very attractive with natural scenery. The famous Haji Ali Dargah is another nearby attraction for tourists to visit.

The temple was built in 1831 by Dhakji Dadaji (1760–1846), a Hindu merchant.Built around 1785, the history of this temple is supposedly connected with the building of the Hornby Vellard. Apparently after portions of the sea wall of the Vellard collapsed twice, the chief engineer, a Pathare Prabhu, named Ramji Shivji Prabhu, dreamt of a devi statue in the sea near Worli. A search recovered it, and he built a temple for it. After this, the work on the vellard could be completed without a hitch. The Mahalaxmi temple contains images of the Tridevi goddesses Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, and Mahasaraswati. All three images are adorned with nose rings, gold bangles and pearl necklaces. The image of Mahalakshmi is in the center shown holding lotus flowers in tandem. The compound of this temple contains several stalls that sell flower garlands and other paraphernalia used by devotees for worship and as offering.

This beautiful historical temple of Goddess Maha-Lakshmi, has three idols in the Garbha Griha - Saraswatiji, Mahalakshmiji and Mahakaliji. Except the timings of Aarti, the temple is not too crowded. The Shringar of idols are done so intricately and with utmost care, that it feels like they are not idols, but real.At the backside of temple, the stairway leads to an an enthralling view of the roaring arabian sea. You can enjoy a few varieties of street food, such as Bhajiya, Vadapav etc. and cold-drinks; and chill with the salty breeze flowing from your skin. The market before temple has numerous flower vendors competing with beautiful-fresh and blossoming Lotus flowers to be offered to the Goddess in the temple. You can remove your foot-wear at one of those, if you are buying something from them.

It is one of the major religious attractions of Mumbai located at Bhulabhai Desai Road. Mahalaxmi station is the closest railway station although this place is well connected by all mode of public transport. People need to park their personal vehicle on the main road at their own risk as the entire area is no parking zone. The entrance of the temple is narrow and steps are there. For physically disabled people and senior citizens it can be quite challenging to climb up those stairs. Enroute to the temple from road, there is also a nice Shiva Temple. Many shops near temple sell various puja belongings and sweets. There are three goddessess idols inside the temple - Mahakali, Mahalaxmi and Mahasaraswati. Everyday temple remain closed from 11.50am to 12.30pm for afternoon Puja and bhog. At the backside wall of the temple, you can stick a coin and wish something. It is believed if your wish is going to be fulfilled then it will stick otherwise it will fall down. From the backside stairs, people can go down and enjoy the mesmerizin view of Arabian Sea. Protography and videography is strictly prohibited inside the temple premises.

Mumbai is characterized by its numerous places of worship, which criss-cross the entire length &  breadth of the city. Amongst the topmost ranked of these, is the Shree Mahalaxmi Temple. It also happens to be amongst the oldest, being constructed in the latter part of the 18th century. The main temple houses the trinity of Goddesses, with Mahalaxmi in the centre flanked by Mahasaraswati & Mahakali on either side. The temple is located on Bhulabhai Desai Road, near Breach Candy Hospital, and is well-connected by roads to all over Mumbai, including the nearest railway stations, Mahalaxmi Road & Mumbai Central. The temple is visited by thousands of devotees, a figure which increases to lakhs during the Navratri festival. A visit to the temple on the first day of Navratri by yours truly (an annual ritual for most Mumbaiites) more or less confirmed this. Photography being strictly forbidden within the temple premises, is limited to a few long shot snaps and of a few on the way out. Photographs of the main deities, though are available for sale in the temple premises.

**The Mandir remains closed from 11:50 am to 12:25 pm (tentative, +/- 5 minutes) every day for the mid day Bhog Aarti.** This is a very old temple situated by the Arabian Sea. It is a short walk from Bhulabhai Desai road, inside. Like all other temple roads, both sides of the road to the temple is filled with shops selling puja items and puja thalis. Youll specially find lotus and water lily flowers in season as the seat of Mahalakshmi is a lotus and She is worshipped with lotus flowers. These little shops sell very interesting stuff, if you care to take a look. The entrance has a security check and a bag check but the temple has no authorised bag/shoe keeping counter. Youll have to leave your shoes down stairs in the shops (who do not take responsibility) or with the people who keep shoes for a charge. They can be found just where the stairs start, in the middle of the road. Males and females have seperate entry and Darshan lines. Typically it takes half an hour, as per a shopkeeper selling puja thalis, on special occasions though, it might take much longer. There are rest rooms to the right and if you walk straight to the left of the main shrine, youll have a spectacular view of the sea. Stairs go down, at mid level there are two small veg restaurants, keep going and youll find a Hanuman Mandir and a Ganesha Mandir. Go further down and theres another little eatery who have great cutting chai (₹7 only) adjacent to a small courtyard overlooking the sea. You can spot Haji Ali to the right. The courtyard is closed and entrance is prohibited as of now. The view from here is amazing...one can just seat here and look at the sea for hours. All being said, the temple management can do better. There are no Special Darshan/Puja notification anywhere, only some signboards in Marathi script. But people were allowed out-of-line special darshans. This can be made more transparent and available to all visitors. Also the Mandir is closed around mid day for Bhog Aarti which is not mentioned anywhere, not even on their website, which also, needs some updating. The Mandir is great, the management not so much. Parking is available (first come first serve) on the temple road. Happy Darshan!
