Used to attend mass there on sunday evenings. I reside in Navi Mumbai but prefered to visit this place atleast once or twice a month. The interior of the church and the mass conducted there felt quite different and satifying. One the best Churchs to visit.
It is one of the most beautiful cathedrals I have ever seen in India. The ambiance of this place is holy. It is a very well maintained cathedral with respect to its age and the locality is also quite. It is advisable to visit this place in the evening during Christmas time as it is decorated which enhances its beauty to the next level.

Situated in the commercially prominent spot of Colaba, Cathedral of the Holy Name is the Seat of the Archbishop and is considered as the βMother Churchβ of the Archdiocese. The Cathedral dates back to the colonial era. On 9th July 1902, the βfoundation stoneβ of the building was laid and it was opened for its disciples on 15th January 1905. In the year 1998, Cathedral of the Holy Name was given the status of heritage building. The main door of Holy Name Church has been declared as one among the βHoly Doors of Mercyβ. Catholics walk pass this door seeking purification and forgiveness. It is a site of pilgrimage for Catholics. It has been further declared by Pope Francis that the door is to remain open for devotees till November 13 2016, as this year has already been declared as βyear of mercyβ. Until now, there was only one such holy door in Vatican. The structure bears witness to the life cycle of the community from birth till death. The entire structure consists of the Fort Convent, the Cathedral House, and the Cathedral that stands at Wodehouse Road spreading over an area of 4,642 square yards. Archbishopβs place of living is located nearby to the Cathedral.

The Cathedral of the Holy Name is a Beautifully designed Catholic Church in Gothic architecture!! Great paintings on the ceilings and stunning glass painted windows of various colours. A historical Landmark at Old Bombay. Blessed to have visited one of the oldest Cathedrals at Colaba. Opened for worship since 1905..
TheΒ Cathedral of the Holy NameΒ is aΒ Roman CatholicΒ cathedral in theΒ IndianΒ city ofΒ MumbaiΒ (Bombay) and the seat of theΒ Archbishop of BombayΒ and headquarters of theΒ Archdiocese of BombayΒ . The cathedral is located in theΒ ColabaΒ area inΒ South Mumbai. The residence of the Archbishop is located adjacent to the Cathedral. This Cathedral was built to replace the older Cathedral which was located in theΒ BhuleshwarΒ area of the city, where there are few resident Christians. That site was sold off, and the former parochial church of the Holy Name in Colaba was elevated as theΒ Pro-Cathedral.The site of this church is very close to the site of the former Portuguese Church of Our Lady of Hope, orΒ Nossa Senhora da Esperanca, that was confiscated by the English from theΒ PadroadoΒ party and handed over to theΒ PropagandaΒ partysΒ Vicar ApostolicAthanasius Hartmann. The Esperanca Church was demolished by the Propagandists soon after, and in its place the presentΒ Esperanca Building, also called theΒ Eucharistic Congress Building, behind the Holy Name Cathedral, was built to house the delegates to the 38th International Eucharistic Congress in the 1960s.It is known for itsΒ frescoes,Β pipe organ, a large gold embroidered stole gifted byΒ Pope John XXIII, and another byΒ Pope Pius XIIΒ containing the red hat given to CardinalΒ Valerian Gracias, and a bell gifted byΒ Pope Paul VIΒ during the 38th International Eucharistic Congress held in Mumbai in 1964.It is one of the two more known cathedrals in the city, the other being the older,Β Anglican,Β Cathedral of St. Thomas the Apostle. Other Cathedrals in the city include those of theΒ JacobitesΒ and theΒ Syro-MalankaraΒ Rite,In addition, there were at least two other buildings which, while not strictly Cathedrals, were popularly styled as being Pro-Cathedrals of the Padroado party Bishop of Daman, who resided normally at the Portuguese government - ownedΒ Blessed Sacrament ChapelΒ in Middle Colaba β St. Francis Xavier Church in Dabul and the Church of Our Lady of Glory (Nossa Senhora da Gloria) orΒ Gloria ChurchΒ inΒ Byculla.Source - WIKI
Heritage architectureCalmClean place
An excellent church to visit. The old fashioned construction is an eye catcher. The positive energy one gets by entering the church is enormous. The roof painting are wonderful though it has started deteriorating from the aft right corner - needs to be maintained on urgent basis
It is one of the most beautiful cathedrals located in South Mumbai. The ceiling is covered with paintings and adorned with sculptures of different saints. The altar is rather big and beautiful to look at. The place has a very calm and serene ambience. The stained glass work also gives a beautiful natural light effect to the entire cathedral. The arches and the entire architecture is mesmerizing to look at.
My place for quiet, reflection and a prayer !!!
This Church is extremely Beautiful... It is so peaceful.. one can just sit there for hours and watch the Beautiful interior ...Its a must visit if your Mumbai... Its close by to the station so its not difficult to find .. and Its famous among the locals as well.. so its not difficult to find. .
Fantastic work of architecture and art combined into one great structure. The ceiling of the church is painted with various beautiful images by an Italian painter back in the early 20th century. Along the inner walls of the church, are the 10 stations of the cross, each station is a highly detailed oil painting mounted on an exquisitely carved frame.
The beauty of the morning sunlight shooting rays of colours through the coloured glass windows behind the altar is absolutely magical. A very peaceful place
A very calm and beautiful cathedral to pray. The surrounding is also extremely aesthetic and you can even loiter around for a bit to enjoy the greenness. Overall, a very very serene place.

One of the priests from this church was most rude. He had no real joy when genuinely asked I want to become a priest how do i go about it he just said Google it. REALLY???? Such a Pharisee. Id rather walk to another church where the priest there makes you feel like you belong.

The Cathedral of the Holy Name is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Mumbai(Bombay) and the seat of the Archbishop of Bombay and headquarters of the Archdiocese of Bombay . The cathedral is located in the Colaba in South Mumbai. To the people of a Parish, their Church is precious. It is where they gather for worship, where they receive the sacraments, where they are taught the meaning of community, where they mark the special seasons of the Church and where they get to know their priests β it is the core, the centre, the heart. The Parish church is the immutable structure that bears witness to the life of a Parish from birth to death.
