I wish I could give this a higher rating, because the food was really quite good, but unfortunately I have to agree with most reviews here in saying that the service is poor. The staff were actually mostly okay, but the restaurants owner is terribly rude and comes across as an arrogant jerk.We didnt want to order dessert because wed eaten a lot of food and were honestly quite full. This wasnt to the owners liking and he immediately brought us the bill, even though we still had half a bottle of wine to finish. We left the bill lying for another 15 minutes, since there were no people waiting for a table (it was 10.30pm and at least three tables were empty at this point) and we wanted to finish our wine. After those 15 minutes, he stomped back over to our table, with the card terminal in hand, saying (and I quote): sorry, youll have to leave since we need the table. Again, there were empty tables and no people waiting. He actually threw my friends credit card at her instead of politely handing it back.I dont know what was going on, but that was the poorest Ive ever been treated at a restaurant. If you can get past that, though, then this is worth a visit cause the food is nice.

A RESTAURANT THAT DOESNT WANT CUSTOMERS...This was definitely my guests choice and not mine (I preferred to try Hibiki down the road but she didnt fancy anything on the menu).Im always extremely fearful of restaurants that have out of date reviews plastered all over the outside. In this case it was a Time Out Review 11 years old. If youve done nothing worthy of getting a write up in 11 years you probably shouldnt be putting anything outside your venue. As we descended into the restaurant there was a sense of a lack of cleanliness, things that were old, torn and worn.Even though the sign outside clearly stated that last orders were at 14:30 at the restaurant closes at 15:00 our arrival at 14:20 was greeted with a Kitchens closed.I protested and another waiter asked how many of us were there (I wanted to make a gesture of shouting upstairs and saying come down everyone, as it was clear there was only 2 of us) and miraculously upon stating the bleeding obvious the kitchen reopened. You better be quick, Ill give you 3 minutes before I come and take your order was our waiters receptive greeting. As it happened we knew what we wanted, having selected our items from the menu outside, so was well prepared when he came back within the allotted time.We had tap water to drink and she ordered the Bokum Myun £8.50 and I the Tofu BiBimBap (which came with Miso Soup & pickles) £9.80.The dishes were brought with haste 5 minutes later. They looked fine, but not particularly appetising. They tasted ok. The hot stone bowl had over cooked the rice on the base.We were engrossed in conversation when the waiter came back a few minutes to tell us they close at 15:00 and wed need to hurry up.Normally when a restaurant closes (like a pub) you usually have 30 minutes afterwards to clear out.Not here. The pressure to get us out became so much that I asked for a take-away container to take nearly half my dish as I wasnt prepared to rush it.This didnt seem to bother any of the staff, though first they bought a container & a bag and I had to ask for disposable cutlery and was expected to transfer the food myself (not an easy task from bowl hot enough to burn fingers). The restaurant was literally dead when we arrived and at 3pm on the dot we were the last leaving. So definitely wont be back. The food is adequate and nothing more. The ambience stilted quiet and worn at the edges, the Michelin & Time Out Reviews long since lost to the annuls of time and the service totally unacceptable.Wouldnt go as far as steering away at all costs but with a better Korean (see above) just a few steps down the road it would be impossible to suggest even a try.Overall: Long since passed its sell by date.

Once upon a time, I was a regular at this place.. This particular experience was my last:I had booked a table/private room for 9 for a family birthday, however we were made to wait a good 40 minutes past our reservation before the room freed up. We were made to stand at the bottom of the stairs, and my poor grandma (aged 90) had nowhere to sit during this excruciating wait. We had asked for a chair for her, but were told they had none free....When we finally got to our table/private room, my grandma and dad couldnt read the menu and so we brightened the lights (not massively), only to have someone coming back in to dim the lights each time. This back and forth happened maybe 3 times, before the manager came in to yell at us. Even after explaining the reason, he gave no apology, and expressed zero interest in catering to us. This the one and only time my family have ever done this, but we got up and left. Never in my life have I ever experienced such horrendous service. This happened a few years ago, but reading recent reviews, it seems nothing has changed, so thought Id contribute my experience. In the past, we had celebrated engagements, birthdays, and general gatherings at Asadal. Its a shame that they took a turn for the worse.

Reply: I had complained several times before, right after the food was served. As I’ve mentioned already in this review, none of your employees cared / provided appropriate service accordingly but instead they ignored me. I finished the food because your waiter handed them out late and I was absolutely starving. Since I never came across such ridiculous situation before, I must admit that I was naive at the scene. However that doesn’t justify the quality of service and the price for the dishes.I mentioned my father’s business with expectations for your fairer judgement and conscience since you were spewing out multiple of excuses by making assumptions that I’m not from here; that this is normal in London. Anyone, whether they’re locals or not, shouldn’t be treated like I was that evening. Lastly, I did not ‘feel’ interrogated. I was, you, asked repeatedly despite my refusal. I must correct your statement there.Avoid at all costs. I’m saying this as a Korean British. I know how expensive the food can get in London. Nevertheless, this place serves the worst Korean food ever. 1 person portion bulgogi(£9.5) is the size of my palm, dry, stringy and most of sauce got stuck right onto the grill. It really looked and tasted bad. I’m convinced that the meat’s been in the freezer for a very long time- judging by its texture and irregular sizes. Bulgogi can’t taste bad. But Asadal proves it can.A small sized stone bowl of Sullongtang(£10.50 + £2 for another tiny bowl of rice, which usually comes with the soup without extra charge) contained 4 slices of another bad quality meat in it, the broth is obviously not done right either, it lacked in depth of flavour(but it’s a beef bone broth) with a very few ingredients. It looked completely different from menu pictures- that’s against the law. Never have I tasted such low-quality Sullongtang in my life. It’s too generous to call their dishes ‘overpriced’.It gets even better with the quality of service. I have never been treated like that as a customer in my life. The critiques of this restaurant aren’t exaggerated. From what I observed, this business is still up and running by mostly ripping off non-Korean customers & tourists who doesn’t know about Korean cuisine well. During the meal, I complained to the owner’s wife and waiter but they really couldn’t care less. They’d unenthusiastically stare at me and the lady said “whatever” in Korean and walked past me. The grumpy-looking waiter did nothing but closed the grill with a lid and walked off.+ Ended up complaining again before asking for the bill cause I genuinely felt scammed and there’s no way I’d pay over £22 for such nonsense. This time, I asked if I can talk to the owner himself. Not only was he in denial the entire time, but he also interrogated me to find out where my father runs his business(are you freaking out of your mind?). I refused to enclose the deets but he asked me again and again. I really had enough with his rudeness and irresponsible attitude- 0 morality and conscience.I asked him to get rid of bulgogi in my bill but he insisted he wouldn’t and instead gave it a 50% off. Even that, he attempted to trick me so that he can charge a little bit more extra. Speechless. He mumbled ‘don’t pay then’ audibly as I walked out! I’m not interested in how shameless you are but you gotta stop degrading the impression of Korean cuisine and shut down the business if you’re too lazy to improve it. Disgraceful and sickening.

I was regular customer for more than 1.5 years until last week they charged me £90 instead of the £8.5 plus 0.5 card payment fee. First of all the waiter who did it didnt even gave me a receipt from the card payment terminal and after he walked away my phone sent me notification that he took a payment of £90 from my Apple Pay. The manager came over and he wasnt really bothered about the whole thing. He said he wont do cash refund and he did a £81 refund which I have to wait 3-5 working days to receive back and they think its completely fine. Waiter personally never came back to me to apologise and nobody seems to be bothered about the whole thing. Just wait for your refund that was all the comment. This is the kind of experience what they want you to have if youre a regular customer and going to eat there on 2-3 times on monthly bases for more than a year. Also after this I went back again and they selling Rice cakes and fish cakes on the menu but actually they only give you the rice cake and they still expect you to pay the price they displaying on the menu for the price of rice plus fish cake together. They answer for this is just dont eat it if isnt like that. Manager has bad attitude and just coming up to argue with regular customers instead of he should just change the item on the menu and sell it as a rice cake only for a lower price because theres no fish so he shouldnt charge for something actually you never get. Also he were telling us that he dont want us to go there again. Well theres plenty of restaurants in London so I dont need to go to a place full of scumbags and unprofessional waiters who cant figure out a simple primary school math 8.5+0.5=9. Also the food quality is very poor, not like couple months ago, service slow and terrible and the management and customer care is unprofessional and not up to standards. Im not recommending this place to anyone, but if you decide to eat there try to avoid card payments because they might try to charge you 10x times more and then they will just get moody and give you attitude.

Been a regular customer there due to their great price and food. However, the service is very poor, particularly by the owner. I believe the owner is rude because he knows he still has many customers coming. Who does he think he is? The only guy in the world giving us food? Its only a matter of time before regulars like me get sick of his rudeness. There is a reason why the service by the rest of the staff is poor too. They are quite frosty and not as friendly. This must be due to the vibe and attitude of the owner. If you are a regular to different restaurants, its obvious how the owner-staff relations affect the whole service.

Service is very inconsistent at this restaurant. On most days, the waiters are rude and unfriendly, and they seem to rush you through your meal. They serve the smallest portions in London, e.g. they expect you to share their tiny ‘complimentary’ pickle side dishes between the whole table. They won’t give you extras regardless of your table size. What a joke. The quality of this restaurant is at an all time low. I suspect that the poor service quality is due to the management style of the owner. He should realise that there are better Korean restaurants that offer better prices, larger portions, and tastier food, that are within a 5 minute walk from this restaurant. Not recommended. It was one of my favourite Korean places in London.Today, I took a friend who came all the way from the states to visit me and wish to spend Thanksgiving together, I wanted to show her how amazing this place was, but the whole experience was dreadfully awkward.Ive been attending Korean lessons for a few months and made a lot of friendly Korean friends, so I thought it would nice if I could order our food in Korean which Ive done before and all went OK, some Korean waiters even taught me a few phrases, well I didnt expect that. After I spoke a few Korean words, the elder waiter seemed very snobbish and interrupted me outrageously.“Chinese or Korean?” “Chinese speak English OK?”.What kind of attitude was that? If the restaurant was busy I wouldn’t have spoken in Korean but it wasn’t. After he put an affront upon me, the entire lunch became really cringe. I don’t understand how can someone command his customer with such an abrasive attitude like a North Korean solider trying to stop people across the border:) To someone who loves their culture and food? What a shame! And how frustrated those people who put efforts to popularise Korean and its culture will be? ! Please appreciate and respect your job! Treat your customer in a proper way! And thank you for ruining our thanksgiving!I wouldn’t choose to go back. Please avoid at all the cost unless you really want to be treated like a North Korean prisoner!

Im a regular. It certainly used to be my favourite Korean but its standards have dropped. Staff friendliness is also not the best.

I have been here with my partner and a friend. We did not have a reservation but we were accomodated with a table immediately which is more than rare in most places on Friday nights. The ambiance was really nice and the place looks generally quite lovely. We ordered the recommended amount of food but it was nowhere near enough and, even after having added an extra bbq portion, we definitely left hungry. All the food was generally good but very few things actually stood out, our favourite was probably the chicken. The staff we had to deal with was quite nice apart from a couple of people who seemed annoyed at us and one waiter who spilled sauces on our table and did not bother to clean it. The conversation was disrupted by the continuous traffic of people at our table who were cooking for us which makes it not the nicest place for conversations. At the end of the dinner, with a grand total of 193£, of which only 17.50£ for a bottle of plum wine (the only drink we ordered other than tap water), I felt quite ripped off.As an additional recommendation, if you like to cook your own meal when going to a bbq place this is not the place for you. All the staff cooks for the diners to the point it feels suffocating and two waiters ended up unknowingly fighting over the temperature. It went much better with the extra portion we added later as we had only one person taking care of our bbq which was very well looked after.

Looks really tatty from the outside, but was extremely pleasantly surprised at how great the food was. One of the best Korean’s I’ve had. Will be back.

A great Korean restaurant but there is a real difference between lunch and dinner.I would suggest going for lunch for a huge plate for less than a tenner.Dinner is great if you want to go for the full on Korean BBQ but it can get a bit pricey quickly.

Not my favourite Korean restaurant. I went for dinner few days ago with my friend. The first thing is that they took ages to take our order. Not only this, but also, my food was delivered 10 minutes earlier than my friends order (what is pretty unacceptable as gives a clear idea about how disorganised the kitchen is). My friend complained about this, the waitress just said Im sorry. When I order the bill, I had literally to raise my hand to catch someones attention, as not a single member of the staff was around, and they did not even removed the service charge for the inconvenience caused. Food was okay but its clearly overpriced, not only about the quality of the food but also about the service.
