A decent place to get absolute Kerala food. I have tried it for the first time and I liked all the items we have ordered except the Alleppey fish curry; not a fan of fish curry anyway. I am going to visit the place some time soon again to try out more dishes.

The highlight of this place is the Pomphret (Avioli) fish, which is the most popular fish in Mumbai and most of Maharashtra. This deliciously flavoursome fresh water fish is a rarity in the UK. Ive visited this restaurant a number of times. But I travelled as much as 2.5 hours on this occasion just to eat fried pomphret, and it was worth it!! The hygiene, service, etc are just about alright here. But the taste of the food and its authenticity makes up for everything. Try it out, n youll know what I mean!

Allepey fish curry was very good over there with a combination of Puttu. Today I had also an experience where in when I have ordered for 1 tea it was not served to me stating its not available and later on I could see the same Tea was served to a group of 7 when they ordered .I have checked the same with the person at the counter while paying my bill and his response was Tea will be served only during certain times.I dont understand what is this certain time means is it because I ordered only 1 tea and they dont want to make since it was only 1 and the other group ordered 7 and dont want to serve for a customer who ordered one .Then I have to go with lime juice which they told its available.I think all the customer should be treated in the same way .I would like to give a rating for 4 for the food which was great at this restaurant

One of the worst restaurants that I have visited. I couldnt distinguish the people, between customers and staffs in that restaurant. I assumed that the guy who came out of the till may be the staff. I raised my hand to place an order. He didnt pay attention and the way he behaved wasnt a good behaviour for a restaurant business. Toilet was very narrow and hand washing area was also not clean. Food also not tasty. Not a friendly service. Apart from a small area, the items which were delivered were left in 2 or 3 tables. I was totally disappointed.

It was okay experience for us, we have initially tried take way of mutton roast which was good but this time we tried dine in and ordered chicken roast which was not great, chicken pieces served were quite stiff and felt taste to be Chinese than authentic Kerala which we were looking for.Staff is quite cheerful and accommodating though.

Just ordinary, usual south Indian food. Service can be really late if busy because there were only two guys serving everyone when all tables were taken!Just order the usual items, like dosa etc., if you want your food quick and price will be reasonable.Any items out of ordinary i.e. beef fry, would be pricey and not good value for money, one small portion would cost you a tenner.Worth visit a second time? I guess NOT!

This review is related to the recent Onam Sadhya they served. We went here after reading the reviews. It was one of the most awful dining experience Ive had. For starters the restaurant was filthy. The food served was lying open in pots that were chucked on the dirty floor with food dripping out onto the floor. The food was cold but tasted ok. My family and I suffered from severe food poisoning. Definitely a place to avoid!

Delicious food & good size portions. Excellent value! Was very happy to see so many vegetarian dishes on the menu. My favourite was plain dosa with spicy mushrooms. They also asked us at the point of order how spicy would we like our food, which was a sign of freshness. 2 beers to choose from: Kingfisher & Cobra. Friendly, helpful & efficient staff. The decor was basic & the lights could benefit from improvement, as it was ridiculously bright. Also the TV screen at the back was a constant destruction from enjoying our conversation with friends.

Food here is normally good, their nadan chicken fry is good. But this time we went for masala dosa and the chutney provided was not good at all. When asked for some gravy to go with the paratha, they said “ it’s being heated”- which ? Left over from previous day ? Biriyani was swimming in oil/ghee. I was quite disappointed that I this wasn’t how their food use to be.

A taste of home!I havent eaten Kerala food in 2 years, since my folks moved back home. Also, living in Kent, a not so multicultural area, has made this an even more difficult task. The food here is absolutely out of this world. We had beef fry, mutton curry, poratha, rice and chicken curry. All of it was cooked to perfection.I have given 4 stars as the bill for 3 adults and one child came to just under £100, which we felt was slightly more than the portions received. If you want authentic South Indian food, visit Ananthapuram. You wont be disappointed.

I have been here a few times. Its a simple Kerala(south Indian) restaurant. They do authentic dishes. I was disappointed with the recent Onam sadhya. At £17 a pop it didnt taste very fresh. I am only referring to the Onam sadhya that happens once a year and not that the food is not fresh on a daily basis.

Appearances are deceptive at this local small Kerelan eaterie. Do not be fooled though, the food here is serious business. Often it will appear empty but youll soon see people show up collecting take away bags in droves and it is easy to see why. The full Nadan chicken (otherwise you wont get the crispy onion topping which is enhances this dish tenfold) is a must as is any of the dosa / roasts. Inexpensive, a family of four can eat here for under £30. Worth a visit if you are around the area (East Ham, London)

Ananthapuram serves one of the more tastier and most authentic Kerala dishes I have had.. their oonu aka the traditional malayali afternoon meal is a delight, as are their porottas and most of their curries.. the only dishes I didnt feel were as tasty as the ones we get in Kerala were the Indo-Chinese dishes like chilli chicken and gopi manchurian.Food is not very expensive.. Ive uploaded the pic of a bill of a huge meal we had which will give a better idea of the prices. The staff are polite and the service is quite good. One thing I wish they could improve would be their handwash and toilet area.. the handwash area is too small for even 2 people to stand together comfortably, and the single toilet is situated just off this area, which makes it very congested if both the facilities are being used together.. the toilet is also extremely small and not particularly the cleanest.. women may have some difficulty using it.Overall, the food is authentic and most of the dishes excellent if you are in the mood for a spicy, tasty Kerala meal..

Awesome south Indian food served with a workmanlike practicality in an ambience punctuated by stacked boxes of bananas, sacks of onions and pumpkins. The price is right and the food is divine.

Food actually very good, so 5 stars for that, but difficult to recommend eating there, as the service is completely inadequate: far too much of the menu was unavailable - a frustrating experience for both customer and waiter. Additionally, our waiter was completely disinterested, potentially due to being overworked (he seemed to be the only one serving the entire restaurant). He omitted to take much of the order, and even left out some of the order that he did take. We werent even provided with enough crockery or cutlery - three plates to share amongst a group of four! To clarify, I almost certainly would go back, but for takeaway only, as eating there was far too much of a stressful experience, and can in no way be described as enjoyable.

As we 13 friends had dinner on 28/08/20 for approximately 140 pounds, we were their last customers. The next day all of us were affected by food poison and it troubled us whole day at work too. We called the restaurant management and informed about this and they noted down my number and promised me that their owner will contact us. But after 2 days there was no words received from them. For these peoples they dont care about health and hygiene(money matters for them that have shown us). If they have contacted back then it would have been better. They have treated us very badly, I am sure that none of my friends or family member will visit there in future. I would warn anyone closer about such unhygienic restaurant.

I have been to Ananthapuran restaurant in East Ham plenty of times. The location is very convenient - just a minute’s walk from the East Ham Underground station. The ambience, decor and service are very average - nothing to write about. However, what this place lacks in ambience and decor, it makes up by serving authentic tasty and spicy South Indian delicacies. The prices are quite reasonable as well. I am a big fan of their fish pollichathu - it usually takes around 25-30 minutes to prepare, but it is definitely worth the wait.

A friend originally from Kerala recommended this restaurant and we were not disappointed. The restaurant itself is quite small, but the food and service were great. We indulged in Dosas, and I had a most delicious fish molly! Would recommend to anyone that like south-Indian food. Beware, is authentic cuisine, so it can be a bit hot. We went to Ananthapuram Restaurant in East Ham for a late lunch. We ordered a plate of plain Appam and a portion of Fish 65. The taste was authentic - hot and spicy fish with lots of green chillies and curry leaves. The ‘jeera water’ was very refreshing as well(and it’s free - so even better). All this cost us a ‘tenner’ which I think is reasonable. Loved the food. The ambience was modest. Overall, good value for money, mainly because of the authentic taste and the very reasonable price. The location is also very convenient - just next to the Mahalakshmi Temple and 1 minute walk from the East Ham Tube Station.
