Appalling experience with Deliveroo and Star of India. Food took more than 1.5 hours to arrive (the restaurant is a 5 minutes ride from our place) and when we called twice the staff was very impolite and couldn’t tell us where our food was.I understand you must be overwhelmed with orders (great for you) but you need to up your customer service game.Your food is good but your staff is rude!

Ordered from here for the first time. Food was actually tasty Indian style. However, could do with more spice. Onion bhajis were a rip off and overcooked, as were the naan. Naan were shana paratha size which is ridiculous really for size, especially considering the price. Wont be ordering again. Not worth the money. Wont be ordering again. Also, restaurants response to the feedback left on here; not exactly inviting! Quite surprised with the sarcasm and unprofessional responses. My bet, this restaurant wont be around long!

If possible to give zero stars, I would. Spoke to the restaurant about a safety issue with my order, the chicken pathia I ordered was absolutely uneatable. So salty it was either a terrible mistake or worse, it would have seriously endangered someone with heart issues. Complained over the phone and was spoken to by the owner, Shah, who told me I was absolutely unreasonable. I’ve saved the dish in the freezer for testing and will take this as far as it needs to go with food standards agency. 10 years eating here and now I see the true colours of the unrelentingly ambiguous practices of the owner.

Always good - lots of variety with vegetarian dishes. Fresh tasting, interesting flavours. Not your usual chicken tikka masala place, there are lots of dishes here that you won’t find in your average curry house. That said, you will find all your traditional staples as well. Good service too and affordable.

Just ordered curry from here and worse meal in a long time. The chicken tikka and korma were tasteless, almost no spices at all. No onion bhaji, and only 1 poppadom. Server was well-mannered, & professional.Venue was very polite about closing (didnt mention it, or ask us to leave, just noticed towards the end they were very quick to bring what was asked) we eventually asked for the time, then realized & left quickly to not keep them waiting any longer.Oh! I ordered chicken tikka masala via UberEats. The delivery man asked me to come down for some reason, he did not explain (frankly, I also did not ask) and I had to miss some time from a webinar for that. The chicken tikka masala had a sauce that simply tasted like cream. Usually it has some tomato-like flavor, but this one was simply like eating a chicken with cream. Not tasty.

The (Deliveroo) order arrived nearly two hours late. The driver called numerous times to confirm my address, refused to come up to our flat to deliver even after expressing that we couldn’t leave our flat. Driver hung up on us, manager called 5 mins later to apologise but then again to say I had given the wrong address (which is on the order and was also confirmed with driver on phone during first call). Both were rude and dismissive.Food finally arrived and honestly the worst takeaway I’ve ever had. After trying a few mouthfuls each of everything we decided to throw it all in the bin. Such a waste of food but the chicken was undercooked, sauce was just oily water and tasteless. Such a horrific experience all round.Never again.

Our delivery arrived, almost cold after 1 hour and 40 minutes. The restaurant staff and delivery driver were then dishonest, giving conflicting accounts of why the food had been so delayed, hopefully in future theyll get their stories straight before lying to their customers. When requesting a discount due to the trifecta of cold food, extremely delayed delivery and terrible customer service, the delivery driver drove off after being rude. The restaurant staff member I spoke with refused to identify himself and denied that there was a senior member of staff on duty whom i could speak with, which was clearly not true. He then started to make threats. If youre after a cold, extremely delayed meal, with a good potion of terrible customer service then the Star of India is the place. If you want a good meal, timely delivery and a pleasant experience then avoid this place, its dreadful! It seems from the reviews that were not alone in receiving this experience from Star of India, who to add to their failings also seem to be homophobic and unable to accept fair criticism.

I love the Star of India, and have been going there for probably about 40 years. Their quiz league is fabulous and helps to support the Cygnus trust charity. The food is excellent and always developing. The staff are warm and friendly and owner Shah is a very charming and welcoming bon viveur. I dont often call for take aways as I prefer to be there, but when I have they have been excellent. The returnable container scheme is an excellent idea although I have to admit to keeping them to store food in the freezer. I look forward to many more pleasant hours and wonderful meals there in time to come.

Not sure where to start. On reading the reviews and reading that this was an award winning restaurant, I thought great, lets give it a try. I ate here many many years ago..almost over 10years ago when I lived in the area. Lets start with the welcome on entering the restaurant. Greeted with a cold non smiling staff member with a couldnt careless kind of attitude. The restaurant itself was tired looking...carpets had seen better days. The bathroom facilities were truly disgusting, so I really had no hope for the food. I was right!! Food was poor and the salad they served was not fresh. We eat out quite a bit, and this was by far the worst. The restaurant owners need to do more than just change the sign above the door, they really need to look at upgrading the interior of the place. Sorry, but I would not reccomend.

Ordered from Uber Eats which gave a 30 minute wait time, after 40 minutes of waiting we called the restaurant and were told they were waiting for the driver and then it would be with us. We then called a following 30 minutes later and were told that the more time I spend talking to you, the less I can do on these orders, that we were being rude and it was our fault it hadnt been delivered for an incorrect postcode which wasnt the case. The customer service was awful, the food then came an hour late and as an Indian myself, I can definitively say it was bland, dry and not to satisfaction at all. I dont want to post negative reviews and I barely ever review restaurants but due to our poor treatment for their mistakes I didnt feel I had another choice.

Absolute disgrace! Takeaway was over an hour late. When we called to find out where our food was, we received appalling customer service and was actually asked what do you want us to do about it.To make matters worse, when we finally did receive the order it was completely wrong. We had to make another call and was promised the right item within 15 mins. After 30 mins we decided to give up and cancelled the entire order.I will never ever order from here again. We had to ask for an apology and even then they didnt seem to care at all.No idea whats happened to this place as we always used to order from them with no problem and always enjoyed the food. I had always enjoyed attending this local for take away, eat in and tuesday buffet. However on the 14th of February i had ordered a take away, understandably this is a busy day for any place, never the less we waited 2 hours for this service only to get a butter chicken which was not this dish. It didnt even resemble butter chicken and was a really spicey currey with some yogurt added in. We also got a chicken tikkka masalla which had been excessively watered down. We called up to be reassured that our next take away would be free. The man said he would leave a note on their system by our name and address. The takeway came in at about £27, thinking that we could eat at the buffet which altogether would come to about £22 we thought we could break even . But told we would need to order a take away instead. We ordered a take away but when talking to the man on the phone, convienently they reported nothing had been documented on the system. They informed me the manager would call back, suprisingly no one did. I had been a regular living locally. I will not be attending or ordering again. Please look after your locals!

Where to start... I wouldn’t know what the food tastes like as the food didn’t. The owner had stated that the food would be delivered in 45 minutes from when ordered. This so called 45minutes turned out to take over 1 hour and 30 minutes. On calling the restaurant again one person had notified me that the delivery driver had not even picked up the food yet. The call was then handed over to a more superior staff member who was aggressively rude, and was lying about how the delivery was on its way and said it will take and additional 30mins to which I had do cancel the order as it was unacceptable and had to get food from elsewhere.

Gone downhill lately - food not great and not particularly cheap either. Most recent bad experience - takeaway arrived over an hour late - I had already made other arrangements - I offered nonetheless to pay half price for the takeaway having already put oven pizzas on - they agreed after the driver called up HQ - then I go to pay on card (as they insisted when I originally placed the order on over the phone) and then they say cash only and take the food away (presumably to give to some other unsuspecting customer)! Now they add me to their telephone promotional text list and offer me discount on Sunday afternoon deliveries -- needless to say no thank you - and take me off your contact list plz!Edit - thanks for your reply (which took over a month). You accuse me of fabrication out of context. Do you really think I would bother going to the length of leaving this review if I did not have cause to do so? In what way is it out of context - Im leaving a review of my experience which is precisely what this is for. How about you review your procedures and dont add people to your phone list without their consent? And to say Im making a fuss shows your poor attitude to customer service - let others be the judge.

Close in five I say, yes but then it wont be fresh he says Go to McDonalds next door then May I please implore you to take his advice. if it is fresh cooked food served with a degree of politeness. I cannot fault his logic, you would be better off underneath the Golden Arches.Apparently this place used to have some kind of reputation. It was almost a status symbol for my beloved Leytonstone. It can be hit and miss which is why I never gave it the 5th star, however on average this is probably the best restaurant within leytonstone. I recommend ordering the starters, especially tandoori king prawn, fried haddock and onion bhaji which are a few of my favourites. My only gripe is sometimes when ordering a takeaway curry it comes with too much oil within the container, I always order a (chicken madras) and need to drain away the excess before eating. That aside it is very good restaurant, they are open during the holidays season until late, and provide a prompt delivery service, although I do find the food tastes better when you eat in but this could just be my own perception.
