Simply my favourite restaurant in London. The food is amazing, the place is super nicely decorated with old photos and information about the place and the staff is very polite. My go-to food is always lamb korma and cheese naan... No other restaurant is as delicious as Punjab. Thank you for all the times youve fulfilled my expectations!

Oh guys, this is simply the best Indian restaurant in London!!The oldest in Britain, from 1946!!!The place is full of history, pictures of the big family are all over the dining room.Clean and tidy, staff is amazing, polite and kind! But lets talk about the food.Had a mint chicken, spicy lamb and cheese naan. Meat was juicy, tasty, simply delicious.Good balance of spices, and lamb wasnt dry.If you want to eat proper Indian food, this is the place to go in.Highly recommended.

Indian food is usually always a good choice for vegan diners and the oldest Punjab restaurant in London has some great vegan choices. We enjoyed the vegetable biriyani, which was a little spicier than some weve tried, Bombay aloo, a chickpea curry and a subtlety sweet pumpkin curry. Excellent service and truly delicious.

Worst experience ever. The taste of food is horrible. They served us cold papadoms with last days onion salad( it smelled bad). And curry and Briyani was not eatable. Along with horrible food there service deserve negative rating. They took papadoms plate without our permission and my friend was not complete yet. And when I asked the waiter to give our leftover Briyani takeout he gave us the box and told us to fill it ourselves, this behavior shocked me. Even when we completed the lunch they didnt serve us a tissue. And most importantly they took 10% service charge after this horrible service. It was worst experience, please think twice before going this this restaurant.

We ordered Veg.food. very good, reasonably priced, £66 for 3x of us including soft drinks and one portion of desert. On the downside was the pickle that was horrible with the stale smell of oil. Also when you say optional service charge ,10% amounting to £6.6 should not be included in the bill and should be left to the discretion of the customer. I found the takeaway that they served when I was force quarantined in President Hotel, near Russel Square to be even better both in quality and quantity..overall not a bad experience.

This was our first time eating at The Punjab and Im so glad we did. The restaurant was an absolute delight. Great intimate atmosphere, family pictures and the restaurant story on the back of the menu really added to the family feel of the restaurant. My one year old daughter was having an off day, she cried and screamed and everything in between. The staff were absolutely wonderful in helping us entertain her. She was even offered a lolly. Thank you for your understanding and kindness. The food was delicious, especially the paneer butter masala. It was incredibly delicious. We will definitely be returning again and again when visiting London. Great to know its also none halal for any meat eaters.

I ordered the chicken tikka masala, as its considered one of the national foods of the UK, lamb goshti, garlic naan and bulleit naan. The chicken tikka masala was a little too lemon-y for me and bulleit naan was spicier than expected. Overall, my favorite part of the meal was the lamb goshti.I definitely prefer Dishoom in regards to food, atmosphere and service, even if I had to wait longer for a table.

Second visit with 3 stars: I have to a bit lower the rating after my second visit. I had the same dishes that I had in my first time but unfortunately now they were not as good. I asked to have them very very spicy but they were just moderate. Also the portions seemed smaller than in my first visit. And their katchumber salad is not really katchumber but overpriced minced iceberg lettuce together with some cucumber and carrot. However, I will visit in the future again, hopefully with the same quality that I experienced in the first time.First visit with 4 stars: i had very pleasant experience here. The atmosphere is calm and friendly, the service is excellent and the food absolutely delicious. They have plenty of vegan options and they are willing to make the dishes spicier if you wish. Everything is fresh and well made.I would love to give full five stars but even if the food was well seasoned in general, it was slightly too salty, and that was taking over other flavors. I believe if there would have been less salt, all the other flavors would have had much more space and taste would have been wonderful. Hope that will be the case in the future since salt is quite overpowering. But yet, already now, they were very good in general.

One of the best places for Indian food in London by far, but also just a wonderful place for good food in general. Ive ended up trying a number of different dishes here and never been disappointed by the quality and flavors - especially since so many Indian places in England have an odd penchant for easing up too much on spiciness and making everything sweet. Not Punjab, thank goodness! The staff are also very professional and polite. Cant wait to eat here again soon.

I’ve been past this restaurant over 500 times in my life, before the pandemic, I’ve seen a que outside on many occasion. Heard so much about it, as a cabbie I’ve even recommended it to customers in the back 😳 . I’d thought I’d take my son there! What a let down. I’ve tasted much better at my local and in our opinions the portions were too small, even my son agreed it was a waste of money. Didn’t taste fresh at all. Some of the dishes were clearly from frozen as they were depleted of taste. I was very very disappointed. I won’t be going there or recommending them again 😞.

Evening meal on 12 July 2021. This was our first trip away since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. We had promised ourselves that once it was safe and sensible we’d go to The Punjab. It was also our wedding anniversary. Needless to say we felt safe and secure (social distancing was in place, track and trace, masks etc.) The food was fantastic, every bit as good as we remembered and exactly the treat we’d looked forward to for so long. And they even gave us a free dessert as it was our anniversary! Thanks to the team at The Punjab. Hopefully it won’t be another 15 months before we’re back!

We have been to this restaurant for the last 4 years. To celebrate my birthday but this year we were really disappointed. The restaurant staff are great and efficient in serving everyone. As it is one of the busiest restaurants in covent gardens. As its one of the oldest Punjabi places in the London. We queued outside for a short while but thats not too bad as they have external heating and a canopy to keep you dry.The disappointing thing on this occasion is the food. The rice and nan were fine but we ordered a Chicken Jalfrezi and it came out with the chicken pieces cold and the sauce hot. So we sent it back and got another one. But it tasted so bland it didnt taste like a traditional Punjabi dish at all.We complained to the manager or I believe him to be a manager as he had a blue shirt on and the others wore polo shirts. He said thats a shame and we cant have that and that he will sort it.I dont know what he meant by that but I had all ready finished my meal and my wife couldnt eat the Jalfrezi and left it.The waiter cane to collect the dishes and we told him also that the jalfrezi wasnt any food also.We asked the manager for the bill. To find that that still charged us for the curry which we returned once and never eat the replacement. But as it was my birthday I didnt want to ruin the evening any more. So just paid the bill. But I would have expected a restaurant with this level of reputation and that we drove from the Midlands to come here to celebrate my birthday they would have provided better customer service. So that was disappointing.Although they did come out with a complimentary ice-cream with a sparkler in it singing happy birthday. So it wasnt a total car crash of an evening.I am not sure if the business has changed hands or they have a new chief but they seriously need to quality assure what the chief is sending out to its customers. As I have had better microwave Chicken Jalfrezi meals. Which is a shame as this this is a great place or used to be and could be again if they sort the issue with the food.My wife wont come back again which is a shame as it ha been a tradition for us to come here every time we come to London. If you found this review and pictures benificial please like.

We travelled from the other end of the city hoping to get authentic punjabi flavours.Ordered ‘kadu puri’ for the entree which tasted great, but ‘kaali daal’ and ‘saag paneer’ were a let down. Appetizers were good (samosas) and good (lamb kebab - very different from what I expected). Rice was forgetable, chicken achari good, and lamb madras unfortunately just spicy with spicy with spicy - not much additional flavor. Punjab is an intimate little restaurant conveniently located to the theatre district. It was very busy when we visited, and the layout is cramped. I would not recommend for a quiet or romantic meal because the atmosphere is the polar opposite- you are squeezed so close to neighbouring tables that its difficult to have quiet conversation. For a casual quick meal though we enjoyed ourselves.I got a call just as we sat down to our table informing me that we had less time to eat than wed planned for. To their credit the staff took our orders quickly, filled them in record time and presented us with tasty, filling food without breaking stride. I actually had enough time left over to enjoy another glass of wine, the efficiency was faultless and we made our show with time to spare.
