Adityapuram is a well-known pilgrimage center, which is home to the only Sun Temple in Kerala. History has it that in the early days, this place was known as Ravimangalam and Iravimangalam and became Adityapuram with the advent of the Sun Temple. There is a story behind the arrival of the Sun God at Adityapuram. Legend has it that the Sun God has been worshiped here since the age of Treta. But there is no evidence to prove the age of the temple. It is believed that Namboothiri in Kappikkad Marangat mana pleased the sun god through severe penance and the sun appeared to him. Accordingly, the temple was built here on the orders of the Sun God and Nitya Puja was started. The condition is that the people of this mana should be the peacemakers of the temple itself. The sanctum sanctorum of the temple is circular in shape. The oil extraction idol Here is a special type of sun idol. The idol of the sun god sitting in meditation is made of a special type of stone that absorbs oil. The special feature of this stone and the idol is that after the anointing, not even a trace of oil can be seen on the idol. The temple also has idols of Goddess Durga, Sastav and Yakshiyamma. The prasadam here is a blood sandalwood that is different from other temples. Only in Adityapuram is such a pleasure offered to the believers. Also, anointing with blood sandalwood is an important ritual performed here. This blood sandalwood procession is held on the last Sunday of the month of May. The main festival of the temple is also held in the month of May. Kavadi anointing also takes place on the last Sunday of the month of Scorpio. There are also special prayers and ceremonies for the tenth lunar month.
A devine place. This is an old temple and a rare one with the workshop of diety Sun (സൂര്യൻ). As it is a huge temple, the trees gives much feel when we relax when we reach outside. Also feel blessed while visit there. The management keeps the beauty of village as they can and also the temple very much.
Very calm and quiet. Beautiful temple
Located in Iravimangalam near Kaduthuruthy in Kottayam district, the Surya Temple is the only temple in Kerala dedicated to Aditya, the Sun God. Nice place to visit
Nice temple
There are only few temples in Kerala which worship the Sun Deity. Its an ancient small temple backed with a strong legacy. You could feel calmness of nature and serenity of an old temple at once place. There is a big tamarind tree near to the Deity which provides ample shade to temple surroundings. There is enough room for car park near temple in two different levels. Altogether a great experience and positive vibes after visiting this temple. Recommend all devotees who travel via Kottayam to visit this ancient temple.
Wonderful place...
Powerful and auspicious place to visit especially on Sundays.
You will definitely get blessing of Lord Suryadev , nice temple,
Small and divine temple.

Beautiful temple and Worth to visit 🙏🙏
A sun temple in Kerala. It is not very famous, going by the number of devotees visiting the temple. When we went there, the temple was not opened. In fact it was opened much later than the scheduled time.It is not well maintained.Probably the government is not interested in its maintenance. Govt is not giving enough funds. However, I cant say anything about the temples power. To me all the temples have prominent place in my heart.
This is a Lord Vishnus Temple , The real sun temples are located in Odisha & Gwaloir. Man Worshipped Sun as God until Harappan Civilization. Then Idolic & Symbolic Worships were begun.
The only sun temple of Kerala, located about 4 km away from kaduthuruthy town. Peaceful location.
The first Surya temple I visited. Most of the idiots dont understand its importance or how it came to be. Hindus are going a steep downhill...new generation thinks Hanuman and Bheem are cartoon characters and pinaka is sree Narayana gurus WEAPON (yes this happened to me once), let alone understand what Advaita is.
It is understood that the only Surya temple in Kerala is at Adithyapuram in Kottayam dt. This temple will open for daily poojas at 5am to 12 noon and from 5.30pm to 8pm in the evening. This temple is situated near to Malliyoor Ganapathy temple in Kuruppanthara and Mahadeva temple in Kaduthuruthy. Those who are affected with incurable disease in the body with the curse and obstacles from Surya deva should visit and offer Almug (Raktha chandanam) to the deity. Durga devi is also here for blessings. Calm and pleasant atmosphere and should visit once in life time.

Reach via Ettumanoor- Vaikom road. A rare but small temple devoted to the Sun god in Kerala, located at Iravimangalam near Kaduthuruthy halt railway station. Fantastic place for darshan.A family temple belongs to the Marangattu Mana. Main Sun deity looks in West direction and a devi deity in the East direction. Main prasad is Raktha Chandanam (red sandalwood). Being a Sun temple, Sundays are crowded, but the temple is open for longer duration in the morning. The last Sunday of Malayalam month Medam (Medam, April 16th - May 15th) is the most important festive day of the temple (Kavadi festival).

One of the rarest temple in kerala were deity is sun, Small but very old temple. Lots of people coming here because of the deity. Temple has a history of centuries but there is no much factual evidences behind the origin of the temple. At present the decendants of kapikkadu marangattu mana holds the tantric rights of the temple. The sreekovil is in circular shape.
An old temple. Good for kids. Worship the god during deeparadhana, by listening to beautiful sopana sangeetham.
Very calm and beautiful place.
Praying this temple is good for leg pain patients. Really good temple.
A very nice temple only one of its kind for Surya Deva in Kerala.
The only Surya temple in the region. Peaceful and quiet devotional. Nice place. Too tedious poojas. Quality not to be expected in prasadams, especially kadum payasam.
Very Good. The Deity here is very rarely seen in India, Sun.

Located in Iravimangalam near Kaduthuruthy in Kottayam district, the Surya Temple is the only temple in Kerala dedicated to Aditya, the Sun God. The one and only temple which is dedicated to God soorya..
This temple is dedicated to the Sun God Surya Narayana which is very rare to see. The Sreekovil or the sanctum sanctorum of the temple is in a circular shape. The idol faces west with a meditative posture. It is made of a special kind of stone that has the capability to absorb oil. Abhishekam or the holy bathing of idol is performed in morning followed by the abhishekam of water. It is really a wonder that there will be no presence of oil after sprinkling water in the idol. The upper right hand holds the Chakra (rotating disk) and the upper left hand holds the Shankha (conch) and the lower right and left hands are in a tapo mudra posture. An interesting fact is that there are no Navagraha pratishtas here.
