The Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, also known as the Vimalagiri Cathedral or as Angathattu Palli located at Kottayam is the cathedral of the Diocese of Vijayapuram. Built in the Neo Gothic architectural style, the church has a 184 foot tall tower which is one of the tallest church towers in Kerala. The Vimalagiri church stands at 183 feet in length and 61 feet in breadth. The main altar of the church is made of Alabaster Marble, which is translucent in nature and is illuminated by electric bulbs and candles during the service. The foundation stone of Vimalagiri Church was laid in the year 1956. The construction of the imposing edifice was finished in the year 1964 and was blessed by Rt. Rev. Dr. Ambrose Abasolo O.C.D. (The founder of Vimalagiri Cathedral, Kottayam). Its feast celebrated on 8th December every year, the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
