To be honest, I was kind of disappointed with this place. I found it to be over-hyped and absolutely not living up to its legend. I had a fish kabiraji and an egg chicken roll, which were just okay. Absolutely not special in any way. The seating is extremely limited and clumsy. Theres just one washbasin and no washrooms. Fortunately, they accept card and online payments.

One the most renowned places for scrumptious mughlai food at its best ♥️All of their items are worth tasting. I tried chicken kabiraji which had a ideally thick layer of lacey egg- work and the cutlet was so juicy 😋 . An heavy evening snack for ₹130.Secondly they have some good chicken pakoras (with bone) which had 6pieces of chicken (1/2 plate) for ₹150 only. The staffs are humble and helpful. Seating capacity is very low, dont expect a spacious room it can accommodate hardly 8 people at once. They also have seating options outside.Taste -4/5 ⭐

One of the oldest known cafés in Kolkata. Just go there for their rich heritage. Some items are only available in this restaurant. The waiters are also very well behaved. Fish fry here is awesome. Must try items are fish Kabiraji. I specially didnt like their most tauted item Diamond fish Kabiraji as its too oily. The drawback of the place is its small capacity (only 4 tables) that too very congested.

A place of most tradition maintained delicious food from ages and generations. One of the best fish items you will get there. Kabiraji, Afgani, fish fry, fish finger are their ancient most favourite and tasty items.Price is in very reasonable range. You can easily go there by buses that reaches shyambazar 5 point crossing. You can easily reach also from shyambazar metro. This outlet of mitra cafe is running beyond my age I guess.Though in recent days they also providing the biriyani, different chicken side dishes and momo type items. But I really prefer the fish, chicken and mutton types fry items.Rate charts and dish items snaps are attached there. Please go there and return with a stomach with full of happiness.

The mutton cutlet was heavenly. The egg devil was stupendous. The crust was crunchy but the inner filling was soft and little bit sweet. There was mashed meat in the filling along with half an egg. The fish fingers were really good. There were 6 pieces in total and the size was big enough.Loved the taste . It left me wanting for more of it . definitely visit this gem of a place

I tried Egg Mughlai and Fish Kabiraji here. It was good considering the price. As its a very small shop theres really nothing to talk about its ambience. The good thing is they have AC on the first floor. There are very few seats available here. So you better come sometime when its not crowded. The taste of the food was good but not great. I have had better Mughlai at other places. The hygeine is okay not very good as they make food by the roadside. Also they dont add GST which is always good. Come here if you have the munchies for fast food and want to get a quick bite for a really cheap price.Taste - 3.5/5Portion sizes - 3.5/5Hygiene - 2.5/5Price - 1/5 (Lower is better)

This review is for the Shyam Bazar outlet of the famous fast food chain in Kolkata. Most would argue the Shobhabazar outlet to be its most authentic representation for it being its first store and I do not intent to argue with that but the Shyam Bazar one holds a special place to me, but we shall be back to that a little while later. First lets review the food.Almost every item in the menu is someones personal favorite, and rightly so, cause every item is quite well prepared. In the age of snack bars where most items in the menu feature some permutation and combination of the same five-six base ingredients, Mitra Cafes menu offers a varied range of items that require different preparations, flavor combinations and are suitable for different meals of the day. From stew to biriyani, hefty spice pumped side dishes to light snacks, the cafe has something for everyone. But, there are two items that come hand in hand with the name of Mitra Cafe; fish kabiraji and fish fry. If you google Mitra Cafe, pictures of these two items would flood your screen thats how iconic these two items are, the first being the more celebrated one of the two.If you are motivated to visit Mitra Cafe after reading this review, be a good lad and order the diamond ones (the diamond fry and diamond kabiraji). Most will say they are just the larger versions of their regular counterparts. NO, THEY ARE NOT! And if they are then, my friend, size does matter. And if you are planning to order just one item from the menu then order the fish diamond fry. According to me, it is way underrated. Now the negatives. Well the dining area is significantly small. But, I find it quite endearing, probably because I have spent a lot of joyous hours of my life there laughing and sharing food with my friends. But I also like it because there is a growing lack of human connection around us. Everywhere we go we are offered options to minimize human contact. Single booths in cafes, single seats in trams and where there is no such option one can always bring out the earphones and with a mere touch on the smart phone can separate oneself from the rest of the world. Mitra Cafe almost snatches that privilege from you cause its very difficult to avoid the stranger sitting at the other side of the table, when they are breaking the proverbial bread with you and when you have little chance of avoiding the occasional eye contacts because of the congested setting. So go on, order a fish fry in Mitra Cafe and start a conversation with a complete stranger. And if the stranger turns out to be a total weirdo, then you always have the option to put on the earpiece and blast that familiar song and enjoy the food any way.

Just a few minutes walk from Allen’s Kitchen on Jatindra Mohan Avenue and you will be at Mitra Café. Another nostalgic journey down memory lane, old Calcutta, colonial cuisine. The shabby marble-topped tables and green wooden benches in this tiny two-and-half-room joint is no reflection of the food at all. Check out their excellent English Brain Chop (fried goat brain or Bheja Fry to today’s world) with Toasts (crisp bread toasted on wood fire), Kabiraji Cutlets, Fish Fry, Mutton/Chicken Kosha. The legendary Chicken Soup still exists in the menu. You will be grateful for the meal.

Just love the food, the place is not so eye catching. Is really congested, the look of it does not bring people here. The thing that draws people here are the food, the delicious mouth watering snacks they offer are highly recommendable. The fish fry is what they are mostly famous for. The fish just melts in the mouth. Bt in recent times mostly normal fish fry is unavailable, fish diamond fry is what they insist of ordering, its price is a bit high bt tastes heavenly. Other important items one should taste are their chicken butter fries , kabirajis both fish and chicken they are really large and one can hardly finish one, paratha and kasha mangsho is also very tasty. Bt the ambience is not beautiful or quiet. There is no seating place on the ground floor , people have to go up through a narrow staircase to a upper floor whose ceiling is so down that a person have to bend to avoid head bumpedin the ceiling. The place is more or less crowded every time visited .

An 105 years old legendary cafe near the Sovabazar – Central Avenue crossing, with the Sovabazar Metro Station within a stones throw. This north Kolkata cafe was once a regular stop for many renowned celebrities. From Uttam Kumar to Anjan Dutta to Bratya Basu, this place has welcomed a lot of Stars. Therefore, it is a great old world charm in old kolkata. The typical style of chop cutlet placed with the old marble top tables and jaded plates and cutlery. Amongst the variety of special items, some renowned items are Mutton Chop, Brain Chop, Mutton Cutlet, Mutton Curry, Mutton Kasha, Mutton Moglai, Dry Mutton Chop, Dry and Gravy Mutton Moglai Do-peaji, Kabiraji and Afghanis . They have the entire repertoire to transport one back in time by 40/50 years. The food is astoundingly magical to foodies. Many special items of this cafe are simply go out of stock within an hour of opening. Perhaps the only letdown is their tight space which quickly fills up at rush hours!! So book your table as early as possible to enjoy a bite from the past...a taste which will linger in your taste buds for a long long time!

This restaurant provides traditional tasty fried foods, available nowhere else. The original outlet in north Kolkata is more than 60-year old and now it has branches in different areas of the city. This old one is located on the well known Shyambazar 5 point crossing in north Kolkata, on Bhupen Bose Avenue, near Shyambazar metro station exit on the southern side. It is always crowded by customers and Kabiraji is one of the items worth trying. However, the available space is very small-you have to enter through the basement; quite likely you may need to wait for some time to get a sitting space.
