Sri Aurobindo Bhavan, is the birth place of Rishi Aurobindo, the great revolutionary turned sage of the 20th century in India.The Sri Aurobindo Bhavan, hosts cultural events, exhibitions, talks and classes on various spiritual subjects. There are two libraries, one for children and the other for older people. Theres dance, music, karate and gym classes on certain days of the week. One can take membership and enroll in these classes and the gym.There are sales counter where incense, candles, photos and books of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, sandal sticks, perfumes, soaps, calendars, honey and other natural products can be purchased. The quality is top notch as they are mostly produced by the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry.Bhavan is a place where you can sit quietly and meditate in the heart of busy Kolkata. It is a beautiful place with garden and old colonial building which also served as the Head Office of Mukti-Bahini or Mukti-fauj.Theres no entrance fee to the Sri Aurobindo Bhavan or for attending any talks or programs that happen off an on. It is a relics Centre of Mahayogi Sri Aurobindo and it Sri Aurobindos birth place also.

The purest and rarest incence is available at the ashram .....and Sri Aurobindos samadhi at the back is the biggest attraction for me to go there.....I love going there

A serene place. Meditate or just spend some time in quietness with yourself. The place remains open from 11 am to 5 pm. The upper floor opens at 4 pm. The public meditation timings are Thursday and Sunday 7 pm. The premises hold a bookstore and a micro and small scale industry store with reasonably priced incense sticks spices biscuits shampoos and other items made by ashram workers.

Its a place where you will find a peaceful ambience to sit and meditate. The first floor has a hall where you can read about Sri Aurobindo and Sri Ma. Picture gallery is there to follow. The hall is dim lighted for meditation. Ground floor has a open auditorium where you will find many flowered plants. There is a small statues where you can pay homage. Library is well stocked. Its for general. There is another childrens library where young people can seek knowledge. All together its a serene place to visit once a while to enjoy its calm environment.

This is a worship house of veteran freedom fighter Sri Aurobindo.There is a big hall for self concentration.There is a library also on the life of Sri Aurobindo. There is a stores on the grocery items specially for good quality cooking spices and incense sticks supplied by small cottage industries hails from different district of West Bengal.People here are very cordial and friendly.Thanks.

Peace and tranquility surrounds this place. The moment you enter inside the bhavan, you are detached from all the hustle-bustle of one of the busiest parts of the city,and it feels like a different world. Meditation comes automatically here.

Sri Aurobindo Bhavan, 8 Shakespeare Sarani, the place where Sri Aurobindo was born, was renovated and the sacred relics of Sri Aurobindo were enshrined here on 16th February, 1973.The memorial shrine has since become a place of pilgrimage. The Bhavan was established with the primary objectives of disseminating the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother among the members of the public so as to help them to raise their mental and moral outlook and to solve their cultural and spiritual problems in the light of such teachings. It houses a permanent exhibition of photographs and portraits depicting the lives of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. The exhibition hall is open from 10.30 a.m. to 12.00 noon and 3.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m.

The small shop therein sells a mind boggling variety of incense, aromatic oils and soap, all made from natural ingredients. Highly recommended especially for foreign tourists to savour the true essence of Indian incense.

#very Good place at Shakespeare sarani. The ambiance is awesome,peace,calm and soothing place. The place will just touched my soul. Very Good and well maintained garden is there. Library is also there, some daily essential items are also there which they sell like agarbatis and soaps. In that busy place one cannot imagine that this type of place would be there.

I stayed there for an hour. It is such a peaceful place to stay there that one can spend hours together meditating. Mental peace can be had of immediately.

Its a fitting memorial for an eminent scholar, writer, thinker, guru, sage and sage in the hear of Kolkata.Its well laid out and reasonably maintained, but adequately patronised.Its grey colour building is impressive with freshness and care. Aurobindo Bhavan is the birthplace of freedom fighter turned seer Sage Aurobindo Ghosh. The place consists of a large residential building with a sprawling campus and two outhouses. The residential building now houses the office and the outhouse on the front left, houses the library that sells books, etc. relating to the sage.On the back of the building, there is a tiled concrete block (somewhat similar to a tomb stone but not actually) decked with flowers. This place is flanked by long running porches on two sides. The entire expanse is decked with many potted flower plants.The entire environment (locatrd at the heart of the city) reminds anyone of divine serenity in contrast with the surrounding hustle and bustle. This place can bring relief, even if momentarily, from the daily drudgery of urban lifeThe place remains open from morning through evening daily with free entry.
