Barasat is a municipal city (/ˈbɑːrəˌsʌt/) and the district headquarter of the North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is also a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). Located in the Ganges delta, Barasat is a regional transportation hub as a rail and road junction. National Highway 12 (formerly NH 34/ Krishnanagar Road towards North Bengal), NH 112 (formerly NH 35/ Jessore Road, leading to the Bangladesh border at Petrapole), Taki Road and Barrackpore-Barasat Road (both are part of SH 2) are the main connectivity links to the city.

See, Barasat is a happening place today! Each and every moment lots of people are coming here for their academic, professional life and lots more from different parts of the state! The population of the city has crossed 2 lakhs as of 2015! A rapid growth of urbanisation can be witnessed here everyday. As the municipality is the main civil administrator of the area it should be more responsible for basic services like water, cleanliness, street lighting, lanes and by-lanes. During that time there was no Chairman of the municipality; Magistrate was the Controller of municipality. Later on after 1882 Barasat Municipality had got its own formation as an autonomous body and became local government.

SERVICE OK

This office is the official municipal administration of Barasat. The employees here I guess are very bad. The services which are controlled by the municipal administration in Barasat are worse than worst. Whatever complain you lodge to the administrators, they will not pay heed to it until you are insisting them to do. If any personnel off municipality of Barasat is seeing this, at least have some shame and work accordingly. There are streetlights which do not work efficiently, garbage in Hridaypur(under the Barasat Municipality) are not disposed properly, they are potholes on most streets. Conditions of Barasat needs to improve very, very much.

Need to keep up all good activities ,special focus for health ,hygeine. Traffic and unauthorized three wheller to be rehabilitated . There shall be a specified pick and drop unit in all over barasat with designated rate displayed.Keep doing good

Worst Municipality ever........ Maked Barasat a wasteful place.... There is a problem in the system overall..... They take money unnecessarily from shopkeepers or from buisnessmans ....overall worst service...

Not so good comparing the neighbor madhymgram, though old the city is , its maintenance is quite worst. This building is situated in the most unhygienic of places as the city is.
