The ambience is great. Its designed like a resort with zamindari styles. Nice, big place. Food is good. Currently they serve only veg and non-veg thali, no a-la-carte. But the service is very slow. The service doesnt justify the amount you pay for the meals.P. S. This is not a regular restaurant. Its a posh one and costly.

If Raichak on Ganges is a destination then enjoying authentic Bengali cuisine at one of its flagship restaurants Sonar Tori is an experience. The moment one steps in, will feel the heritage rolling down from all every ceiling and wall. The interior showcases derelict zamindar house located next to Ganges. The grandeur of the dining hall though looks dated but will leave you awestruck.Amidst the derelict grandeur, huge variants of a la carte along with king-size zamindar thali came like a breath of fresh air. Team of PanchPhoron had an opportunity to explore some of the delicacies. Our sincere thanks to the executive chef Sammya Majumdar for hosting us for the day.Aar Tele Jhale has aar fish cooked in rich tomato gravy finished with garam masala and clarified butter. Sorse Diye Parshe er Jhal is parshe fish cooked with poppy and mustard seeds paste. Pabdar Jhal has pabda fish cooked with red spicy gravy. Sorse Eelish Bhapey is a hilsha delicacy where steamed fish cooked in yogurt and spices.Mourolar Bati Chocchori has tiny river fishes cooked with potato and brinjal. Bati Chingri is again a steamed dish where marinated shrimp cooked in chili and mustard gravy. Chitol Muithaa has a roulade of chitol poached and cooked in golden yellow tomato onion gravy. Daab Chingri is an iconic Bengali dish where prawns are cooked inside green coconut shell for that white creamy coconut gravy. Finally, in desserts one must not miss Patishapta which are crepes stuffed with coconut and jaggery mixture topped with rabri, Malpua which is Bengali style pancake simmered in sugar syrup and Bhapa Sandesh is a steamed delicacy cooked by wrapping banana leaf.If one fancies and has appetite to have a taste of all then the recommendation is for Zamindari Thali. This is an exotic spread for food connoisseurs comprising of four veg and three non-veg selections along with Bengali sweets. At INR 1500 plus taxes this platter is a complete journey of Bengal’s art of culinary.Built with utmost attention, Sonar Tori is much more than only a restaurant serving Bengali food. Through its food and taste, Sonar Tori captures our Bengali culture in every way that is rooted in our soil and touches us in every sense. Plus this all can be experienced while sitting next to the Ganges.

First and foremost thing I want to mention about this place is the ambience... It is just fabulous, outstanding, mesmerising and you can add many more expressions like that... It was that beautiful and you will feel you are in another world... The staffs are very courteous and helpful... The only problem with them is they only have Thali options... And it was very costly... I had a Illish Thali and my wife had a Parsher Thali or something like that... The Thalis have many constituents... Some were really tasty and some were decent... One complete Thali is more than enough for one person also you are not allowed to share it... So, order accordingly... But whatever it may be... I will request everyone to give this place a try once..

I would have given a five star but is disappointed by a misinformation given by the management over phone. Our sole purpose was to try out the Zamindar thali in Sonar Tori and called the restaurant to confirm if the same is served for dinner. We were answered positively. So we landed there on a Tuesday night for dinner and were told that the thali is not available for dinner except for Saturdays and Sundays. With a sad heart, we ordered whatever else were available at the moment and had a sumptuous meal. Though what they served were all delicious and juicy, we came back home much discontent.

The Ffort Raichak is located by the Ganges, boasts 200-year old heritage. Play area, river-side walking, boating, pool and multiple dining options are the highlights. It is a magnificent hotel. There are multiple dining establishments in the hotel. Namely, Sonar Tori (Bengali), The Orient (Far East cuisine), and Indian Quarter (Indian). Guests can head to reflections (Alfresco dining), The Sunflower Cafe (poolside), The Ffort Ramparts (Open-air), or The Courtyard (bar-cum-restaurant) for meals and drinks. A not to miss destination for all gastronomes - Sonar Tori Kolkata the authentic bengali cuisine theme restaurant. It offers a wide variety of dishes from all over Bengal, with a focus on bringing back exclusive lost “Zamindari cuisine”, the food of aristocratic landowners. Staff service is of optimum quality, All the staff is very eager to help. Now, come to the food we had -• Aar tele jhale - Aar Fish Curry very popular tasty and delicious Bengali dish. It is a very very special Bengali fish preparation for fish lovers.• Sorshe diye parshe r jhaal- It is very spicy delicious Bengali fish curry . large sized parshe pieces were very flavorful and the gravy had a strongflavor along with balanced spice quotient.• Daab Chingri - A traditional Bengali preparation of prawns cooked in mustard and filled inside a coconut to get a combined flavor of mustard and coconut cream.• Sorshe elish bhapey- Nothing is more blissful than a plate of steamed rice with some pieces of Hilsa along with the mustard gravy. The flavor of mustard and the taste of Hilsa is just made for each other.• Mourolar bati chocchori - Mourala fish is mixed in freshly grinded mustard paste and steamed. Bengalis are primarily rice eaters and this dish is best with plain rice.• Bati Chingri - A classic Bengali dish, prawns and potatoes are simmered with a mix of ingredients.• Chitol Muithaa - Chital Macher Muitha is an exotic preparation among the Bangals . It is served in any special occasion with steamed rice or polao.Nicely done by the chef .• Patishapta - Pan cakes stuffed with khir and coconut paste .Sonar Tori Special Malpua - ried pancake dipped in Chashni, served with rabdi. Fluffy inner part with crisp edges.• Zaminder Thali – This is a special Jambo thali made by the Restaurant Chef .This thali includes Luchi , Gobindo Bhog Rice , Begun Bhaja , shukto , Seasonal Veg , Mug daal , Chingri Malaikari , Vetki Paturi , kasha Mangso , Polao , Chatni , Payes , Rajbhog and Misti Doi . This large size king Bengali thali priced only 1500 INR .overall,id like to say that we had a wonderful experience. The restaurant provide a memorable experience. id like to say that raichak on ganges is a must visit place if youre looking for a quality time with your family.

It is definitely a very good and beautiful getaway .Food is very good and tasty. Problems are a plenty in terms of waiting time.Maybe the place is too small compared to the heavy rush of visitors.Service is a bit slow and the joy starts, once you have the food served to you.Definitely a place holding a lot of promises for many prospective visitors, if something could be done regarding the transportation arrangements, since the place happens to be in a remote corner in Raichak.

Authentic Bengali cuisine at its best. Located in the famed raichak on ganges property adjacent to the Ganga kutir, this restaurant gives an old feel. The backdrop of the Ganges adds to the feel. Decorated with pictures and collections of the preindependence era and resonating in the melodious Robindra Shongeet, the restaurant offers lip smacking Bengali dishes. We had the non veg thali each. Bhetki in mustard was simply awesome. The rice, desserts, flavoured chaach and the brinjal fry tasted so good. The service is good. The waiters take care and ask you about how you find the food. They help you with extra servings should you need some. Would love to go again.

It took us 1.5 hrs to reach Sonar Tori from Behala. Needless to say that we were starving and delicious food would do the charm. The Bengali Thali served here was charming. Delightfully surrounded with home made like food and ma s kitchen feeling made our appetite grew humungous. My parents obviously could not eat much so we took a normal bengali thali which was suffice. There was something on the menu called zamindari thali which got skipped since it looked kingsomely fulfilling. The ambience filled with tagore songs resonated and we finished our lunch humming. Although my expectation got shattered when i realised there is no refill for thali like in any other thali restaurants and that was my only repentance even-though my stomach disagreed with this thought as the meal could be called as a complete meal ending with the blockbuster misti doi and paan.4 stars for now and one more star pending for my next visit when i will attempt the zamindar thali!

Located by the Ganges, the Ffort Raichak proudly boasts off the 200-old heritage. The main highlights of this magnificent hotel include play area, river-side walking, boating, pool and multiple dining options. Talking about multiple dining options, these include Sonar Tori (Bengali), The Orient (Far East cuisine), and Indian Quarter (Indian).  Guests can head to reflections (Alfresco dining), The Sunflower Cafe (poolside), The Ffort Ramparts (Open-air), or  The Courtyard (bar-cum-restaurant) for meals and drinks.  The hotel is a home to fascinating and eye soothing outer view with a  very mind-blowing landscape. The staff service, also, is as great as anything else that the hotel has to offer.  The staff is always eager to help with a broad smile on their face. It is perfect getaway from the usual boring and chaotic,  full of hustle and bustle life. The hotel gives you a historic feeling and is very peaceful inside.  Not to mention, the food is also of great quality. This hotel provides the optimum settings to soak yourself in  the mind boggling pools of  Ganga Kutir and Promenade by the Ganges, the Oasis at Anaya and the  hexagonal pool at Club Rio Vista. The hotel has a lot to offer when it comes to food and drinks. It houses three multi cuisine restaurants  and three restaurants specializing in Indian, Oriental and Bengali cuisine. The multi cuisine coffee shop provides the panoramic view of the river.  Enjoy mouth watering dishes from Japan, China, Thailand, Magnolia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Taiwan at the Orient.  The hotel is, indeed, Bengali in every sense. So lets Talk about the Sonar Tori ( bengali Restaurant ) . We The Team Panchphoron are invited by the managements of Sonar Tori for a food tasting  session host by them . Sonar Tori is a pure Bengali eatery located at Ffort Raichak .  The restaurant is all about delicious and healthy Bengali dishes offering a huge variety to choose from. Sonar Tori recently added many new options in the menu and I tried few of the signature dishes and was left spellbound.  Each dish was so delicately prepared, bringing out the exact taste of condiments used that will surely leave you craving for more.  I was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance of this place , in one liner u can say a Adorsho bengali kuthir e ahar . the dim lighting makes the place elegant at evenings & nights.

We being travellers and foodies from bangalore we have travelled to Kolkata for tea first time and we hired a self drive car and wanted go for a short drive near by.We decided to go to Raichak as per the suggestion.Drive is about 2hrs which is a single lane with traffic almost for 40kms last 10kms approx is the deviation you take to Raichak which is good but again narrow roads. While we opted for Ffort to visit many told to visit the Ganga Kutir so we ended up there and was surprised there was no car park nor a reception / lobby area but any how we were greeted by the watchmen and they guided us to the restaurant where 2 people happily welcomed us inside. The resort itself is built on the banks of the River Ganga its an interesting concept of the resort more of a Sustainable Architecture or in simple terms like a re use of locally available materials the resort is done which is cost effective. Restaurant had no proper view to the river and we were made to sit with no ac no fan for our lunch. The menu is a restricted meals menu 2 Tyes and costs 1300rs for good food wouldnt say its wow or such. You get similar taste at good bengali restaurants in the city for half the price eg Bhojohori Manna ( must try). Well I need some extra papad which costed me 50rs and rice bow 100rs and water bottle 150rs I was like damn even after paying high price for the food I had to pay for rice and papad can understand if they had billed me for a non veg dish. Common 1300rs for limited food? I wonder even if pickle or chutney if they would charge extra. After seeing the bill for almost 3k for a couple it was stomach burning.Reasons are:1. I didnt feel the grandeur of the resort its more of a Dhaba than a 5 start resort or merely just an ordinary resort.2. No car park no lobby no ac no wow factor it was more of a work shop environment.3. No good views or deck view to eat by the view of the river.4. Good food fine but previous day had the similar amount and varieties of food for overall 1200rs compared to 2700 rs.Summary- its over rated visit the place but skip the meals but if your an NRI or a foreigner then yes this is your place to have some good bengali food as 50$ for a meal for 2 for a sumptuous bengali food is cheap.Tip: visit the Ffort its an interesting lively place has all the feel good factor and views f the river too this seemed to be like a 4 star resort but yea food is ala carte with regular continental menu and some benagali dishes.Visit both the places and choose accordingly both are next to each other. Worth the check.Over all Bengalis and Kolkata was a wonderful experience and fantastic people.Kudos

Two items were not served at all as the staff was unable to handle the rush.Ilish was stale , the chef was reluctant to accept it!Too small serving portions for the heavy pricing. As for the maintenance washrooms ill-maintained, lounge area reflected utter negligence. An improvement in the food quality and service is imperative as the place attracts lots of tourist and lacks proper dining spots. The beauty of Sonar Tori can be relished better if purity and quality of bengali cuisine is upheld.
