My father-in-law is 70 years old. He is an ex-COVID patient. Moreover he has high blood sugar. He developed a huge stone in his gall bladder which was the size of a big betel nut. He also had obstructive jaundice and his liver was partially damaged. Some gangrene like fluids had spilled into his liver and stomach. Reputed doctors refused to operate my dad. They bluntly said that the operation is risky and the patient may die. However Dr. Mahato accepted the challenge. The laparoscopic operation started at 1.15 pm and ended at 7.30 pm. I had the opportunity to interact with Dr.Susenjit Prasad Mahato on account of surgery of Hernia for my Uncle.( Mr.Tarak Nath Das) at AMRI Mukundapur in the year 2018. My uncle had to be admitted on an urgent basis as his condition was getting unstable. The hospital authorities reffered his case to Dr.Mahato.Dr.Mahato is very detailed in his diagnosis alongwith explanation of the same to the patient relatives. He is not just a Doctor , he is a patient communicator who takes every opportunity to educate the patient and his family members about the medical condition of the patient .While the primary task of a surgeon is that of doing surgery in the operation Theatre, but from patients perspective it goes beyond that.The pre-operative information sharing and the accessibility post the surgery is a very critical component for a successful patient recovery and Dr.Mahato excels in that. He kept us updated about the treatment progress after the surgery by using all the available channels of communication ( oral feedback, txt messages, phone call etc). Post surgery and till date he has always been approachable and answered all our queries and questions.
