Went to kafulok today seeing the reviews in social media.. I guess post lockdown the food and service quality both detoriated. Did not live upto the hype. Street vendors nowadays serve good quality Chinese food than what we were served there. The service person was completely unware of the dishes he was serving to us. We had to ask for every single thing. The food were not appealing also.Overall it was a total disappointment for all of us.
I can recall very few instances when I felt happy and sad at the same time. This exotic evening at China town was one such...When I called Kafulok this evening to enquire about availability, I was greeted with a gentlemanly voice and was assured that they take orders untill 10:30pm. So we booked a cab and headed to China town. But heres the catch! It was not like the colourful nights I recall, rather the deserted streets and allies were giving eerie feelings. But the moment we entered the restaurant it was gone! Our host was a true gentleman and the best waiter Ive come across recent times. Our dinner started with mix thai soup; the best in taste so far. Next were chilly garlic chicken and fried ginger prawns as starters. For the main course, there was mixed fried rice and egg Szechuan rice with Kung Pao Chicken (strongly recommended). It was accompanied by whiskey and mixed fruit juice as per our preferences.Food was delectable, service was quick and the waiters were extremely vigilant; we hardly had to call them as everything was brought with utmost fastness and with most sophisticated manner.I noticed the Vacantness in the vast eating area, the marks on the wall where ACs used to be, the empty shelves in the bar, yet Ive to say they are like some Bengali feudal landlord family which is under immense economic pressure yet the elegance somehow lingered everywhere...And above all, Ill never forget their warm smiles, their Subtleness and the care with which they served... Our host, Mr William couldnt be any more helpful and dignified. 👍🏽This place was nothing like it used to be and yet the service was impeccable and standard was religiously maintained. I salute their spirit and hope they overcome this phase soon enough. Therefore I earnestly request my readers to please support this heritage restaurant. You can definitely enjoy the ambience of ITC Royal Bengal which is just few miles from there, but THIS IS KOLKATA CHINA TOWN AND ONLY WE CAN SAVE THEIR LEGACY...P. S. Pocket pinch for 3 was 2645/- only and they accept cards. Do pay a visit. 🙏🏽
A hidden Gem in the lanes of Tangra. They maintain the authenticity of dishes very well. The ambience is a hit, the crowd is less of massy and more of classy.Coming to the foodWe orderedMixed Thai Soup- 8Garlic Chilly Chicken- 8Mixed Schechuan Fried Rice- 9.5Chicken Chilly Garlic Noodles- 7Chilly Fish- 9.5Scores out of 10.I personally dont prefer the flavor of lime or sour so I rated Thai soup as 8, but my companions liked it so that review is subjective. The garlic noodles werent tossed in chilly garlic sauce, but in chilly garlic oil, so thats something I didnt enjoy a lot.Do try out their kafulok fish, lemon chicken, honey chicken, schechuan fried rice, garlic pepper chicken/fish.
Quite a degraded now...Food quality is bit down.Ordered Thai soup, but received something like hot and sour... 😑.Chicken drumsticks were simply fried chicken lolipop...Noodles were too bland in taste.....
In family ambience there shouldnt be drinks served as alongwith the elders kids are also there. Drinks section should be seperate. Over all All good
Excellent food experience. 5 🎇 for quality /quantity /pricing... Good menu & ambience. A perfect Chinese food day /night for the complete family.. 👌👌😋😋👍👍....
Decent place with very polite staff. Food was excellent. Best dish was chicken cantonese wanton.
Beautiful ambience and excellent staff behaviour. Food was decent and prices were modest.
One of the best restaurants for Chinese food in the city. The recipes are authentic and each dish tastes distinctly different, as opposed to run of the mill taste of Indian Chinese fare that you find in most places.
The food quality post lockdown is downgraded. Service Quality has also plummeted. Saving grace is the quality of steamed garlic fish
Extremely horrible experience. Food is nothing to rave about. Service is absolutely atrocious. One has to ask for everything. The AC doesnt work and it is suffocating when there are many guests. Very disappointing. I dont recommend this place to anyone.
Kafulok is situated a little further away from Golden Joy. If you are driving, take care from which way you are entering and if there is any road blockage or not.The ground floor is for stags and upstairs if there is a lady with you/you are a lady. The decor is minimal and the place has a homely feel where the emphasis remains on you and your company for the evening. The menu is similar to other tyangra restaurants and no real surprises here. Although they cook with care and the fare they serve is definitely tastier than the average tyangra eatery. They do serve pork items, but you will need to inform them beforehand. They serve alcohol. The servers are also polite and efficient. If you are done with Golden Joy, Beijing and Big Boss, this should be next.
Its a very good place to visit with family and friends.
Food is always so good and authentic. Unlike a lot of other Chinatown restaurants, its less oily, which is what I like a lot.
Good place, but please dont try steamed vetki, its a scam. Foodka review is a blunder
Awesome taste of all food item. But please check bill before pay . They have added a extra dish around 400rs in bill and we missed to inform this to them.
Good place, but please dont try steamed vetki
The hidden gem. Lovely food.
Nice ambience, well behaved staffs, food was okayish.
Lovely experience, awesome food, Will visit again
Its located in China Town and food is really great
Excellent taste and quantity with reasonable prices.
Food was excellent maybe the service can improve a bit
This is how a 285₹ dish looks like, that too its is suppose to be the special kafulok fried chicken.. honestly this is the worst presentation and the worst tasting fried chicken Ive ever tasted... The chicken was just boiled and only the crust( batter if breadcrumbs) was fried but soggy. I will not recommend this place to anyone for dinner nor for a drink.... Its not worth the amount of money that you pay.
Good is ok but could be better
Service is very poor, people serving there are rather inadequate to get the order in time or provide with any kind of appropriate alternative
Good food. Good for medium to large groups. staff are polite and helpful. A standard mid range Kolkata China town expiriance.
Awespme food.Yesterday was dry day.Price allIndia persfective is very reasonable.
One of the hidden gems of the Chinatown at Kolkata. This place is such a throwback to the good old restaurants of Kolkata, built in a time warp. Do try their Pepper Garlic Chicken and Kung Pao Chicken.
1.food is just awesome. 5 starI tried thai soup , chilli fish and chicken2. Cleanness 5star3. Infrastructure 4.5 star.Space is small but well managed4. Value for money 5 star5. Service is weak 3.5 star.First timerPlease order your food according to your starter order your main course just after the starter arrived. My personal experience1st time I was not able to eat anything after starter.Food has its own culture value.Chief cum owner and a friend - JohnathanJust awesome.
Food is great. Service can improve when there is a huge crowd. Organisation has to be maintained.
Really nice food. Satisfaction. Their chili pork was a bit too greasy tho
Had heard a lot about this place from friends whove been going there since their childhood. We could not rekindle those fond memories, unfortunately. The Food quality was not that great, in fact, disappointing. Service was quick but the dishes themselves left a lot wanting, options were limited too. Id rather go for one of the other places, closer to the main road, with better food.
Wonderful hospitality quality food soothing ambition value for money car parking added advantage
Kafulok is my favourite in China Town. The food is awesome. Dry Chilli Chicken, Black Pepper Chicken, Mongolian Chicken are my favorite. Usually people visits China Town for boozing , but I visit Kafulok for dinner or lunch for really good quality Chinese food.
The food is good but the service is terrible. You should definitely try Garlic noodles with chicken wonton.2 stars deducted for service.
A bit odd location, but it has been one of my favourite restaurants in kolkata over years. Excellent food, tasty and super affordable.
Place is good but services n staff are not meant to serve you
Good food. Quiet place. Have been going there since long.
For is good but the taste is not consistent
Been to Kafulok for the first time with an expectation that nearly touched the sky and was thrown down from there as soon as the food hit my tastebud. Our #pawri got screwed and we ended up spending 6K on food that tasted below average!Shedding some light below:* Their service was quite slow and we literally had to wait for everything starting from taking orders to serving it on our plates* The staff didnt even bother to ask if they need to food to be served* Bathroom wasnt clean at all and no hygiene maintained, which happens to be a priority especially when we know theres a virus roaming for free across the globeComing to FoodStarters* The presentation was quite nice and quantity aint bad compared to the price they charged* I personally am a Pork lover and have tried it in many places all over the country but the Dry Chilli Pork served to us here had a lot of salt and it definitely didnt taste like Chilli Pork at all and when complained about it the attendant actually didnt give a flying fork rather smiled and left saying I will let the chef know* The fried Chicken wonton was nice and so was the Prawn chipsMain Course* We ordered Chilli Chicken and Fish that tasted bad to a level where we thought, itd have been better if we ate in a roadside stall -_-* The Fried rice wasnt upto the mark at all and tasted quite bland* The Chilli Fish was too sweet to handle with a bunch of carrots in it, I felt I was having the dessert!Sharing few pics but as you know they wont tell you how the food tasted hence try looking out for some other restaurant other than Kafulok in case you want to try great food.
I have been visiting kafulok past 21years but never expreince such caos.Food was excellent as ever but the service was very poor. Food just dropped on the table and not served. After every course waiting 20min for the next food. Waiters attending after calling more then 10 times. The service teams need to be brief and polish before the Restaurent operation each day. Feel very sad to see one of my favourite restaurant moving backward. Thanks to the Chef for an exceptional food.Which will make me and family drop inn by the Restaurant next time.
Good food good service ...steam fish must try
Great food, reasonable rate, great ambiance and very well behaved staff. What more you can ask for. One of the best places in Tangra.
Awesome taste and awesome price
Wonderful food and staff.
Excellent choice of Chinese food located in Chinatown Kolkata.A perfect place for family dinner, good ambience. Also available for take away on Swiggy and Zomato.
Horrible service. Visited the place after seeing Foodkas blog and recommendation, but i was surprised seeing the poor management.Quality of food is average, or may be its supposed to be good food tasted extremely pathetic after the unnecessary long wait!
Excellent food and ambience!
Too good.ambience, food, behaviour all are in best class.u can go this place again and again and again....
Its one of the hidden gems of China town. The place offers good food at reasonable price and it is less crowded and offers a fantastic time with your family, friends or loved ones. The menu is good. The food quality is good. Quantity is great. The price for liquor is slightly higher but you wont feel the pinch considering peace you get. Overall a good place to spend your time
Never try whole fried bhetki.
Beers were warm ans food was pathetic. It used to be so good but it has deteriorated immensely and the prices have gone up exorbitantly
Awsome experience
Yes. Good Food. Good ambience. Good service. Reasonably priced
Very nice food
Good service. Excellent food.
Excellent food just fantabulous...
Food quality good
Good food! Legendary restaurant
It is one of the oldest bar & restaurant in tangra. The food is good, but a little expensive.
Good food but very poor service today
Good food vast menu steam fish a must try for all highly recommend this place for chinese lovers.
This is a worst discriminatory place. Never come here. The staff is the most unpleasant staff I have ever seen in this city. Doesnt know how to talk to people. Very unsafe for women.
Authentic Chinese food. Location is bit interior but then the food is nice and price is reasonable
Good food
Lot of items that we wanted werent available. Not the best atmosphere as well. It was quite atleast. No music available. Although since no one else was there they allowed us to play music in our phones. Food was okay. Was expecting better. Overall an average 3*.
Good food quality and service.
Good food
Had to wait for 40 mins, just to leave empty bellied .
Terrible service. Had visited on recommendation of Foodka , but were hugely disappointed.
Authentic Chinese cuisine traditionally continued by Walter Chen .
Food was nice. Ambience was OK.
Great food
Average.. need to upgrade service..
Pork and Beer match made in heaven but served at Kafulok..... Definitely other conventional items are also fab as usual. Price of the liquor are really attractive.
Whenever I visit china town I went there for their best Chinese food and cozy atmosphere. I loved their chilli mushroom fry in starter! Their soups are also of a kind.
Great food. Everything was good and especially their fish which you have to tell them to prepare in advance.
Nice PlaceAll Wine Available.,
We are the school friends with spouse have enjoyed the gathering and good delicious foods. Services were very good & nit & clean.
