Princep Ghat is not what it used to be.Littering and loitering is on the rise.Not suitable for family and children because open PDA and physical intimacy takes place,especially after the sunset.Street food is good, within Rs 200 you can have good pay bhaji, soda, puchka and chai per person.Good place to hangout with friends.Sunset is still spectacular with the view of Howrah Bridge.No #covid19 protocols are maintained for obvious reasons 😏

Ghat on the river Ganges. Ferry is currently closed but you can take boat ride. Toilet is available on ghat and near by local station. You can see the breathtaking view of vivekananda setu and Ganges from here.

Place is good to watch sunset. However, due to inadequate lighting it gives a uneasy feeling. Parking is available alongside road. Snacks available are not up to mark. Cleanliness in inside area can be better.

This is a beautiful Memorial built by the British Raj to honour a very renowned Anglophile - James Prinsep credited with deciphering the ancient Indian Prakrit script . The memorial is very well maintained. We also took a boat ride in the evening in the Hoogly river which was very enjoyable.

No entry fee but the food here is costly so be aware. So many ghats present where you can also do boating. This remain open from 5AM to 11PM. Evening time is the best time to see beautiful sunset 🌆

Princep ghat is a very well known place in Kolkata. Spending evenings out there are very pleasant. The sounds of the river, the breeze and the lonely view of the Vidyasagar Setu were soothing reprieve from the chaos of the city. The sunset with river Ganges and massive silhouette structure of 2nd Hooghly bridge as backdrop is perhaps the best in Kolkata.

The versatile indologist James Prinsep ( Born 20th Aug 1799 and Death 22nd April 1840) come to India in 1819. He joined as the Assay-master of the Calcutta mint in 1829 and simultaneously took charge of the Asiatic society of Bengal as secretary. During his tenure some of the important works are- preparation of scripts of Brahmi and kharosti, introduction of uniform coinage of companies rupees, reformation of the weight and measures and construction of circular canal connecting the river Hoogly and Sunderbans.After his demise the citizens of Calcutta raised public fund of Rs. 12,000 and constructed the monument in 1841 on the eastern bank of the river Hoogly in memory of the versatile genious James Prinsep. The Prinsep Ghat became an important landing place for all those dignitaries who came to Calcutta by sea.This historic heritage monuments has been restored to its original splendor and dignity without loss of its architectural character and esthetic by public works department , Government of West Bengal . The recent beautification work of this monument and surrounding premises has been undertaken under the guidance of the Honble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

There are some food stalls also where you can get some tasty street food. Country boats are available for the visitors for spending some quality time sailing on the river. But if you visit this place with your family it will be quite embarrassing for you as some couples become so much private.The most important thing, the sculpture in the memory of James Prinsep is temporarily locked up means you cannot enter inside the sculpture at present.

The place is beautifully created and has great views. You can have a good walk here but you will find a lot of people in uncomfortable positions with their partners which I guess should be controlled by the staff but yea I get it, citizen rights are also there. Try avoiding visiting here after 8pm to avoid those PDAs. You can also find fast food stalls nearby. Washrooms are also available but very smelly which means they are cleaned properly. You can have a boat ride in the ghat but it felt quite costly for ₹400 for 30mins.

Located very near to Fort Willems military area, this Ghat is very beautiful with an iconic structure in the front. From the Ghat we could hair manually controlled small boats for ride in the Hooghly river. Nearby Sarobar hanging bridge makes the spot more spectacular.

A good tourist place but gathering has increased during the years due to popularity and if travelling in personal vehicles(two wheelers especially) check for proper parking areas because avoiding that you might get a ticket(challan) from the police as they are very active in that tourist location.

Place is crowded generally but if empty it can be a serene walk watching the river, bridges on one side and the city roads on the other. You find boat rides and lots of street food.It could be given a better maintenance though plus the river is dirty and it stinks

After very long, I visited. Feeling was grt. The cool breeze is soothing and refreshing. Prinsep fort is being enclosed with white barrier, which I saw after an year I guess. Must visit. Pictures will be drastically beautiful from here.

There is a memorial erected in memory of James Princep just beside Princep ghat station. Its a wonderful place to visit. It was renovated in 2012 by the west bengal Government. View of second Hooghly bridge and the river adds to its tourist attraction.

It is a famous monument of British era, maintained nicely by Indian Army and west Bengal government. There is walking plaza along the Hooghly river frequented by lots of people. Lovely place to take an evening stroll.

Good place to check out. We got here a little after sunset, so a different crowd started to gather. Still had a good visit, no one hassled us.There are couples cuddling on the benches around the back of the monument. So if you have children, avoid that side, it come earlier.When we left some cops and social workers with sticks were getting ready for a raid.Accessibility: The ghat(river front jetty type place) is not wheelchair accessible. One has to walk over a railway track. The public restrooms are also that side.
