This is one of the most densely populated areas of North 24 Parganas. For this reason this station has seen the biggest turnover of passengers. As far as cleanliness is concerned, this station is not so good. It is also worth mentioning here that cleanliness of any place mostly depends on the citizens that visited those places. Most of the people have the tendency to throw garbage here and there inspite of the fact that garbage bins have been provided on all platforms. In the day time, there has been a big vegetable market along the railway line of Platform No. 1. This market is known for its cheap price of commodities. The station is located on the eastern side of the Barrackpore Trunk Road (if you go towards Barrackpore). The garment market which started just outside of Platform No. 1 and along the flyover towards B.T. Road is also quite famous for its cheap price.

It is a Kolkata Subarban Railway Station. It is opened in 1862. It provides main communication to Sodepur town people. Now there is a clean subway. Earlier people had to cross train lines. Many accidents happened before the establishment of the subway. Regularly thousands people use the station. It is a clean station. The train fare for Sodepur to Sealdah is Rs five only. The ordinary bus fare is four times of it. Aged and weak people should avoid office hours i.e. Sodepur to Sealdah at 9 am to 11 am owing to heavy rush of passengers. Again we see often that people fail to depart from the compartment for rush hour. It is needless to say that local train journey saves our precious time.

There are mainly two ticket counters in this station first one is at the platform no. 4 and another one is at no. 1 both counters have 3 ticket collecting windows where you can buy ticket by using cash, the fare chart and time table is given to platform no. 1. Both counters attract a huge number of people during rush hours as a result you may have to stand in a long que, but you may avoid que by using Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVM). Platform 1 has two such machines while platform 4 has one. Whatever Sodpur is a very old and famous railway staion, famous Bengali writer and nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore has mentioned the name of this railway station in his famous novel Gora.

The condition of Railway station is just like a fish market not a proper infrastructure and security, No proper announcement of train timing. passenger get confused weather is coming on 1,2,3 or 4 no platform. lots of time train acceding happened due to improper delayed announcement as per local news paper record. In rainy season the situation of platform and their surrounding area is like a HELL. No footpath.
