Its great to visit Here. Feeling pride
This place is near fort William yes Im talking about VICTORY MEMORIAL......One of the best historical places across the globe,The craft art has been done very well on marble, there is a lot of beauty scattered all around. There is a large amount of empty space to sit up and the places are kept well decorated. A good place for couples is to express love and come together. This place also attracts historians and those who love to roam.U cant feel the awesomeness of this place untill you visit once.
Its a Beautiful Army Campus with so much of greenery all around. Fresh air and cleanliness. The buildings look so antique and beautiful. So much of facilities inside.
Excellent ambience. Open green space. Soothing environment.
The best place to visit to see British India architecture & creativity. It is the 1st Supreme Court, Kolkata during East India Companys buisness & passing of the Charter Act.
Amazing experience. Went for the first time😇 will love to visit again
Beautiful as usual. Seems the lockdown helped this place to take a bit of rest and rejuvenate.
Childhood spot visiting here from past 18years... And everytime I come here could have enough time to explore the entire campus ever... Its huge and vast place spread throughout acres of land. Church inside is beautiful ❤️. Its historical place and gives you the goosebumps of British India structural design and architecture building and look of entire place is a reminder of the past.
One of the most historic places in India. With a very rich and profound connection to the Indian history of the British rule in India. Built in 1758, this place is a military HQ and civilians are not allowed unless accompanied by serving members of the armed forces. Thanks to Indian army for keeping the tradition and the spirit alive for all these years.
Beautifully designed building is an architecture marvel. Interspersed ponds and gardens around the main structure makes it an ideal place to invest your time.
The College library of Fort William was an important centre of learning and housed a magnificent collection of old manuscripts and many valuable historical books from across South Asia. Multiple MS copies were printed. When the college was dissolved in 1854, the books of the collection listed for preservation were transferred to the newly formed Calcutta Public Library, now the National Library.
Fortwillam is excellent place. Here civilian are not allowed. only official work related civilian can Visit. Proud Army zone.

Fort William is named after King Williams and is one of the most popular places to visit in Kolkata. The site was built in 1696, where the builders used bricks and mortar to make this famous fort. Interestingly, the port has a total of 6 gates, namely; WaterGate, Saint Georges, Treasury Gate, Plassey, and Chowringhee.
I like walking along this road. So refreshing
Fort William is the oldest East India companys fort. Now this location under Defence. Fort also maintained by Army
Nice and beautiful place and well maintained by the army.
Place is nice just be cautious as there is no parking space available for cars anywhere close for your cars.
The place is amazing, with an amazing ambience and full of greenery.... But people need to carry some self introductory document in order to enter the place.

Fort William Kolkata OverviewThe mighty edifice of Fort William is situated in the city of Kolkata, on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River. Built in the year 1696, the fort is named after King William III and was the first stronghold of the British in the country. The magnificent structure is spread over 70.9 acres and is embellished with hundreds of arched windows that overlook lush green gardens. Meticulous stonework adorns the surface of the building and it took as long as took ten years to reach completion. However, it was soon realized that the building had a few loopholes, and a new octagonal building was constructed whose foundation was laid by Sir Robert Clive.
Clean and tidy place. Wonderful ambience.

I love this place ...this place touch in my heart
In the heart of Kolkata, such a beautiful place.
Its an 18th century fortress made during the british era and currently this place is a military base with army eastern command head quarters in it.The place gives profound knowledge about the british era. It was started at 1758 and completed in 1780s.Civilians wont have an entry here since its a military area. The places are nicely maintained but not sure everyone is giving importance to the historical value of the fort.
There are two Fort Williams. The original fort was built in the year 1696 by the British East India Company under the orders of Sir John Goldsborough which took a decade to complete. The permission was granted by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. Sir Charles Eyre started construction near the bank of the Hooghly River with the South-East Bastion and the adjacent walls. It was named after King William III in 1700. John Beard, Eyres successor, added the North-East Bastion in 1701, and in 1702 started the construction of the Government House (Factory, see Factory (trading post)) at the centre of the fort. Construction ended in 1706. The original building had two stories and projecting wings. In 1756, the Nawab of Bengal, Siraj Ud Daulah, attacked the Fort, temporarily conquered the city, and changed its name to Alinagar. This led the British to build a new fort in the Maidan.Robert Clive started rebuilding the fort in 1758, after the Battle of Plassey (1757); construction was completed in 1781 at a cost of approximately two million pounds. The area around the Fort was cleared, and the Maidan became the Lungs of Kolkata. It stretches for around 3 km in the north–south direction and is around 1 km wide. The Old Fort was repaired and used as a customs house from 1766 onwards.Today, Fort William is the property of Indian Army. The headquarters of Eastern Command is based there, with provisions for accommodating 10,000 army personnel. The Army guards it heavily, and civilian entry is restricted.Much of Fort William is unchanged, but St Peters Church, which used to serve as a chaplaincy centre for the British citizens of Kolkata, is now a library for the troops of HQ Eastern Command.A war memorial has been created at the entrance of the fort, and the fort also houses a museum which displays artifacts from the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, especially those related to the battles in the Eastern sector and the Bangladesh Liberation War.
Nice place to enjoy ganges view from judges ghat

Its a high tight security area..Very beautiful place..
A beautiful building.
Fort William is the closed cantonment of the armed forces in kolkata. Has a golf course, sports amenities like tennis, swimming, gym and badminton.
Have been here couple of times the place in itself is a city within city, the overall maintainence is just brilliant you will be amazed to get a walk down the road. Very limited accessibility for civilians but you can get invitations through telegraph vintage rally, its just amazing to come and be up close with the defence personals, very good over all.
Durand Cup The historic Durand Cup, which is the oldest club football tournament in Asia and the world’s third oldest, will be played in the the ‘City of Joy’ Kolkata for the next five editions.
The fort is very beautiful , you should be in defence sector to get inside the army cantt ( fort is the army cantt ) . Civilians are not allowed . Some of the other pictures are not of fort williams . Photography is prohibited in army cantt.
Very good officers & staff.....

Initially, it comprised of wings and an inner bastion where prisoners were hauled which is why it was known as the black hole of Calcutta. Today, Fort William is the property of the Indian Army and has a capacity of accommodating up to 10,000 army personnel. It also serves as the headquarters of the Eastern Command. Due to its importance with respect to Indian intelligence, access to the interiors of the fort is limited to army personnel and their relatives. However, you can visit the palace for its stunning architecture.

One of the nice place
To protect their trade interests in India, the British East india company started constructing a fort on the banks of the river Hoogly in Calcutta (now Kolkata), their new important trading post. It was named after King William III. In 1756, the Nawab of Bengal, Siraj Ud Daulah, attacked Fort William, temporarily conquered the city, and changed its name to Alinagar.Robert Clive started rebuilding the fort in 1758, after the defeat of the Nawab in the Battle of Plassey (1757), the battle that lay the cornerstone of colonial rule in India. Construction was completed in 1781 at a cost of approximately two million pounds. Stretching for for around 3 km in the north-south direction and around 1 km in width, today it is the HQ of the Eastern Command of Indian Army. Civilian entry is restricted. With several historical buildings, mazes of tunnels, ramparts, viaducts and six entry gates, much of Fort William remains unchanged. But St Peters Church, which used to serve as a chaplaincy centre for the British citizens of Kolkata, is now the Command library. The foundation stone of St Peters Church was laid in 1822 and, although consecrated in 1828, the building was not completed until 1835. The church, built within the walls of Fort William, was designed by Captain Hutchinson and was considered a rare example of Regency Gothic style architecture in India.
Just an awesome place for relaxation

Great place awsam
Visited Fort William for attending The Statesman Vintage and Classic Car Rally.
Inspite of being nominal Head quater of Eastern command there is too much of security and hype around it, you cant talk properly on the phone while being in its vicinity.
Had the privilege to visit the great and famous Fort William on 2014. It has everything a city requires. It also has a Church, Gurdwara, Temple inside. Here you can find lush green out field almost everywhere. A wonderful place which will be look like you are in a Mountainous area, not in Calcutta. Cool, Beautiful and Nice.
