Area of this campus is one of the biggest in maharashtra Shivaji University, One of the oldest and premier Universities in India.Shivaji University established in 1962, is a state university located at Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India. The university, with a campus spread over 853 acres (345 ha), is named after Chhatrapati Shivaji, founder of the Maratha Empire. It was inaugurated on 18 November 1962 by Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the then president of India. Yashwantrao Chavan and Balasaheb Desai took the lead in establishing this university. Educational institutions from Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara districts come under its jurisdiction with 279 affiliated colleges and recognised institutes.[2] One of the major objectives behind its foundation was to cater to the educational needs of South Maharashtra region. Shivaji Univetsity is my alma matter. I have also taught Theoretical Physics here for almost thirty years here. It’s a great place to give and receive knowledge; with excellent faculty, well-equipped library and laboratories. The students come from the surrounding districts and extremely well behaved.Add to this the greenery of a beautiful campus, spacious departments and a magnificent statue of Chh. Shivaji, the great. Nearly a thousand peacocks moving in the land of about a thousand acres which has all types of play grounds with two athletic tracks and two water bodies; and that gives you an idea how charming a campus can be.

This is state university so good for education. Many students come at here from rural area. Number of courses are available at here. With education number of other activities also conducted by authorities and students.

Placed in the city, far from noise and busy life. Compound of the University host many wild animals which is also a good thing for nature lover. Green compound and also good views are available. As I was quarantined here so I didnt roamed here and there.I AM sharing my experince what I saw here..

This place gives real meaning of serenity and solitude... Huge area internally linked through roads, but still so much greenery, youll find basketball grounds inside, lake inside, this particularly famous for peacocks and peahens roaming inside without any barriers... So many types of birds can be spotted... For morning walks or evening walks also this is the great place... There are other facilities available for common public as well like canteen which is pretty decent for a university canteen.... There are benches inside for sitting... Outside there are food carts and wings and rolls are delicious to find... University has 3 gates (known to me)... But its a pretty huge area and inside there are some parts where neither there are constructed roads nor you get any range... So it can also become a little trek kinda thing but be cautious... Overall really nice place to go... One of the tourists attraction spot of Kolhapur....

Old University in Kolhapur Maharashtra. Nicely architectured main building showcasing Shivaji Rajya. Has lot of greenery to walk and many departments spaced out .. Of course quality of education, quality of examining staff and overall Board etc is questionable. Hence it is definitely not among the premium institutes or rated very high by the IT companies that hire students across universities.Definitely needs management, staff and board member change to improve quality of education and hence quality of students that come out from there

Shivaji University Kolhapur is good for academic studies. Calming environment, lot of trees, water ponds are there. Hostels are also good and two seater rooms are there in hostels .I can say this is a growing University.

Ppl usually come here for walk, running, strolling etc. Feels good to sit in between trees. During Early Summer and Winter, you get to see different kinda of birds including our National Bird - Peacock or Peafowl.For students, hostels are available boys and ladies separately. 2-3 Canteen. Auditorium. Labs. 2 Libraries. Beautiful lawn. Bridge (famous for photography). Many reservoir built for water consumption. Main building situated in front of Shivaji Maharaj Statue.Employees here are not humble. They dont have manners to talk. Literally lack in manners. Fail to present themselves.The guard and watchman are unhelpful. They scold out of nowhere even if you visit with family. Instead of carrying out security job they only wander around.WARNING - BEWARE OF STRANGERS AND THEFT. ON MY LAST VISIT SOMEONE STEAL WALLET N PETROL FROM MOPED. Watchmen only stand there for NAMESAKE. Be safe.If you havent visited. Visit soon. Only to see picturesque greenery not the people.
