This is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kochi. Evening is the best time to visit, but any time in the day is fine as there are a lot of tress for shade. You can see Chinese fishing nets and may get a chance to try pulling it. There are some restaurants in the area which cook freshly caught fish for you. Parking space is available. Cleanliness is average.
Vasco da Gama Square in Fort Kochi, near the sea shore, is an ideal place to spend the evenings. One can see stalls that sell nuts, tender coconut, spices, and other local delicacies. Fishermen lower the Chinese fishing nets into the sea and fresh catch is brought to the nearby fish market. Owned by the Municipal Corporation of Kochi, Vasco da Gama has an open stage for cultural performances. This place received its name three decades ago. This place is named after the legendary Portuguese sailor Vasco da Gama who was the first European to reach the Indian subcontinent by sea. The mission of his voyage was to search for the details of the spice market of and trade routes to the Malabar region on the Indian coast. His fleet of ships reached Kappad near Calicut in 1498. Gama’s discovery of the sea route to India was significant and opened the way for an age of global imperialism. Pedro Álvares Cabral, another Portuguese sailor, followed Gama, reaching Calicut and travelling from there to Kochi. A treaty was signed between the Portuguese and the King of Kochi which followed the construction of Fort Emmanuel in 1503 at Kochi, the first European fort in India. The city in the Portuguese fort area was called Santa Cruz, the first European city in India.
Cool and calm place... For long walks and peaceful atmosphere, this is the best place... In sync with the nature... There are lot of trees and hence walking is less tiring... Also, there is always a soothing breeze from the nearby beach area with a wonderful view of the Arabian Sea with Chinese net near the shore for catching fish... There is also a park for the kids near the beach... All the buildings are really attractive and the scenic beauty is so overwhelming that we feel like we are in a different place... People come here for photoshoots too... There are a number of hotels and café and that too add to the beauty of the place.... Also, there are many small vendors selling all kinds of things from cool drinks to dresses to shells and ornamental items along the beach side...
This is the busiest place of Fort Kochi considering both people and traffic. At present some construction work is going on near this place. This place is considered as the heart of Fort Kochi. Every tourist visiting Fort Kochi has to cross this place. This is most lively place of Fort Kochi considering the calm and Peaceful atmosphere found in inner lanes of Fort Kochi.
A good well maintained place for tourists and locals to have some calm time. A lot of eateries, gift items are available here. This place also have the unique Chinese fishing nets and one can get to buy fresh fish from here. For me, a time well spent.Paid parking is available at different locations for 2 wheelers and 4 wheelers.
A beautiful place at Fort Kochi. There many street vendors across the street. The place is well maintained.
Tourist attractive place where anyone can enjoy the view of beach, huge chinese fish catching nets, antique shops, historical constructions and a park. Adequate ime to visit there is in the morning and in the evening.

It was good and enough to spend a day happily with friends.Food wasnt that much good and its expensive.
It was a really good walk along the square, having the ocean as the view till it end.
Very good place to visit:Dont take tourist boat service (Rs.200-300), take govt ferry service(Rs.4-5).Last return boat is around 8:30pm.One of the beach is full of oyster shells.Chinese fishing net are also adorable. One can buy fresh fishes and give to near by shop for cooking. You will get fantastic experience.(some places will allow alcohol drinking also).
The place just vibrates positive energy. From historical buildings to a beachfront walkway and a kids park where one could sit and enjoy the bustle of the people, no one would regret spending some time here. Walk along the path around the beach and youll find historical memmorials and objects from the british raj like the anchor of Lord Willingdon which was used by Robert bristow to help transorfm kochi, Steam boilers of cranes and the pillar memorial of the Great fire of cochin erected in 1890!
Nice place . we can see big ships hereAnd traditional chinese netsMany shops are avilable for food and also for purchasing gift items we can enjoy with friends there are many photogenic places near to this area
So calm and peaceful.... as no tourists or local crowds... The best quite ambience in Fort Cochin after 25 years...!!
An ideal place to watch fishermen use Chinese fishing nets is the Vasco da Gama square, a narrow promenade along the beach. ....The square, which has numerous stalls serving fresh delicious seafood, tender coconut and so on..It is also perfect for a nice, relaxed evening.... Beautiful and peaceful environment.....Vasco Da Gama Square, it got its name only in 1985, has changed beyond recognition...... Earlier, it was a panoramic sea shore where six to seven Chinese nets operated quietly
Beach view is awesome but not that awesome as years before, even though this is the best here.Tea & fried snacks are available from morning 6.00am.Seafood items are available.Hotels, stationary shops, private bus stand and transport busses are available. You could get the very fresh fishes in the morning from the Chinese nets and from the shops.Petrol bunk is available near.kerala Transport boat is available from here to ernakulam.
Goodness of naturePerfect ambience for refreshing the mind....Keeps you calm relaxed
Covid restrictions have made the area less welcoming. Police prohibitions are in effect. The area will see better times.
Its a nice palace for the tourists in the morning and evening. You can enjoy the beauty of the place in no moment. The beach is next to the street so nice wind flow.. And it will be awesome if you visit this place at the evening because at 5:00 pm all other visiting points will be closed so it will be the only point opened in that time and the sunset from here is awesome.
After the renovations done by CSML this has become a very beautiful place indeed . If more affordable food shops are opened it will be more beneficial.
The Vasco da Gama Square is the best place to watch the sea and fishermen fishing using the Chinese fishing nets. We can sit by the side of the walkway if its not crowded and enjoy the beauty of the canal, occasional ships passing by, boats, Chinese fishing nets etc and just relax. Weekends and holidays when its not raining the place will be crowded with locals and foreign tourists and the number of food vendors will also be more. Food outlets giving fried fish and other items, ice cream & smoothies carts, snacks, tea & coffee etc are available there. There is space for kids activities too. Nice place to walk around enjoying the beauty of the sea and spend an evening with family.
Good place to have a stroll, can have wada pau, samosa, mirchi baji n tea...like.bombay..Fresh catch fish also u can see n buy
Nice place but right now its close coz of covid ....
Must visit if in Kochi. You can experience the Chinese fish nets in action. Roadside vendors are helpful in finding new places. But beware of you want to purchase anything. Bargain as much as you can and they would be happy to offer you a good price.
Best time to visit is by evening. Fortunately the climate was good when we went by afternoon. Happened to buy fishes and prawns from here at affordable price and just within a km there is a food street where they would cook as per your instructions.
Fort Kochi is exactly as we have seen in movies. Full of foreigners and overrated eateries. Especially since its biennale season. Its not too shabby nor too impressive. Its well lit enough to walk around and the old buildings with its roots of architecture in Europe is worth a re visit.
A good place to sit for couple of hours nobody disturbs you. Can eat good fish in the evening in beach restaurants. More or less clean. At night you can see local fishermen caching fish with traditional fishing nets. Plenty of local foods. Nice slice of green mango and pineapple😀 .Be careful of the fisherman who calls you to help them pulling the ropes of fishing net and take photos. Specially foreigners maybe its a trap for earning money
One of the best place to visit in kochi.. But its crowded at times.. There are many entertainment.. Like live music.
This is the place you come to in order to see the tomb of Vasco Da Gama. The Portuguese captain and conquerer died on his third voyage and was initially entombed in the St Francis church located nearby. The atmosphere of peace is a little scary.
Very nice place for evening walk with familySome time cultural activities also held
Its one of the oldest Churches in INDIA with more of its history linked to great sailor Vasco da gama. Well wheather he actually discovered INDIA its a big debate I would be on another side, but he one of the great sailor of his times. Also its located just opposite to the port Koch. Walking in this road reminds more of historic places and events. Why 4 starts : because its not maintained up the mark. If your a Christian or like history its a must place to visit.I have posted some good pictures, taken with permission from the authority there. No harm in liking this post for the extra boost!!
Cochin port can be viewed from here.
Cultural and Heritage place in Fortkochi. The place should be visited once in lifetime by all.
Beautiful view at sunset. Saw Chinese fishing nets in action. Watch out for garbage on the beach.
Its a really lovely place. Do visit after 5.30 or 6 pm in the evening. The cool breeze from the Arabian sea will drift away all your weariness. Though its not a very big and extravagant place, it has chinese fishing nets along the boundaries and the vendors sell fresh fishes on the streets.
Very nice place. House boats and cruises are very much appreciated , nothing to say except wow......
Situated on the heart of kochi, can find traditional Chinese net fishing near by a good place for a walk and hangout
Not well maintainedCleanliness needs to improve
A walk by the fishing beach and seeing the Chinese nets(time Ur visit well) function was real exciting for us & kids. The glimpse is really sundry but has an element of excitement. Do spend some time and even choose a fish of Ur choice for quick realtime taste.
Incredible Place To Visit In KochiSmall Park with Peaceful Atmosphere
Good place to spend time with friends and loved ones. Food stall , childrens park , Chinese nets etc. Its amazing to see the ships going through the channel.
Very crowded, not maintained. The walking path is good... Beach is very dirty and littered.. nice to sit here and watch the ships enter and exit the port.
Fortkochi....The queen of arabian sea.
Calm place.
Fort Kochi (Portuguese: Cochim de Baixo Lower Kochi) is a region in the city of Kochi in the state of Kerala, India.[1] This is part of a handful of water-bound regions toward the south-west of the mainland Kochi, and collectively known as Old Kochi or West Kochi. Adjacent to this is Mattancherry. In 1967, these three municipalities, along with a few adjoining areas, were amalgamated to form the Corporation of Cochin.
Quiet good. Chinese fishing net and live fish sales
Its a whole different place, loved it
An attraction nevertheless. The beach is right there, but you can see its not really kept clean, but the fishing nets are really a wondeful sight. Theres a lot of vendors selling all kinds of stuff, and the beach is almost always crowded, except during the midday when the heat is at its peak. A good place to sit and spend the evening though, since theres benches all over the place.

Popular place for tourists. Nice location and sea view.
Worth visiting the Bay area and Chinese fishing net around in Kochi. Place is surrounded by Portuguese architectural dwelling and scenic place to be at Sunrise & Sunset. Small joints to enjoy local cuisine as well international cousins by roadside. Place can be beautified and kept clean by the local civic authorities and visitors
Quite place in fort kochi. The vasco da Gama church was a new find for me and to know that ther Portuguese explorer was first buti d in this church. His mortal remains were later moved to Lisbon. The church is an old Portuguese church and now run by csi church. Lots of visitors each day
The most beautiful place with the best vibes. We never get enough of kochi. Every single time we go there, we find something new and amazing
Nice area for a walk in Cochin, unfortunately relatively dirty. Lots of people and vendors give it a lively atmosphere.
