Elamkulam Little Flower Church is a Roman Catholic, Syro-Malabar Parish, belonging to the Diocese of Ernakulam-Angamally. Today, with a strength of more than 1200 Registered families, this Parish is an internationally notable worshiping community.Elamkulam was situated on the Hill Palace Road, connecting the Palace of the King of Cochin in Tripunithara, to the Durbar Hall in Ernakulam. It was a village with a few hutments, surrounded by paddy fields. Slowly, as the area developed, housing colonies came up all around.Mar Augustine Kandathil, the former Arch Bishop of Ernakulam, foresaw more than half a century ago, the potential of Elamkulam becoming the centre of Cochin City, and a small Chapel in honour of St. Philomena, under the Konthuruthy Parish of Tripunithura Forane Church, was constructed here in 1948, and the First Holy Qurbana was celebrated on 13th of March the same year.Gradually the Syrian Catholic Community increased in the area and this necessitated the construction of a Church in place of the Chapel.With abundant blessings from God Almighty and the liberal financial backing from the Arch diocese, a well designed church was constructed in 1952. Mar Augustine Kandathil, having a great devotion to the Little Flower of the Child Jesus, dedicated the new Church in honour of St. Theresa of Lisiuex. In the following years, the number of families attached to the church fast grew in number. With the enthusiasm and encouragement of Cardinal Mar Joseph Parecattil, the Church established its own Cemetary and also founded a Carmalite Convent. The number of families was so great that many new churches were subsequently formed; the Karanakodam – St. Jude’s Church, Elamkulam – Matha Nagar Church, Kadavanthara – St. Joseph’s Church.The Little Flower Church, which was a filial Church of Konthuruthy Parish, obtained the status of an independent and full-fledged Parish on 1st of August, 1959. The Parish was brought under the Forane District of St. Mary’s Basilica, Ernakulam in 1997.The hard and sincere work of the Vicars, combined with the whole hearted co-operation of the parish families and the various religious and non-religious organisations attached to the church, gave birth to a golden age spiritually and as a community. This growth in numbers necessitated a large church, along with Sunday School facilities, a Parish Hall and a Presbytery. The Parishioners, under the leadership of the Vicar, Rev. Fr. Sebastian Pynadath, wholeheartedly took up the project. The foundation stone for the new Church was laid by Mar Thomas Chackiath in 1999. The Church as we see it now was blessed on 2nd October 2004, by Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithayathil.

ENTRY GATE MAY BE MISSED!A newcomer while driving along SA Road from the Kadavanthra junction eastward can easily miss the entrance gate, as its covered by the adjacent building and their signboards. Suggest an indicator signboard (to serve the purpose) on the left side of the road and on the metro pillars a few metres west of the said entrance.

Little Flower Church Elamkulam is situated on the side of Sahodaran Ayyappan Road (Ernakulam - Vyttila Road). The Church is a spacious Church with adequate car parking facility. Its also having a Parish Hall with Ground floor and First floor. The Ground floor is Air-conditioned and that is suitable for average programmes. Its location is highly convenient because of the availability of Metro Railway Station with a Stop.

A very popular church and located right at Elamkulam junction, the neatness would stun anyone. The entrance has some interesting sculpture and inside is a bit ornate. The design does justice to St. Thérèse of Lisieux. Gives a clean feel in your mind and heart after a visit. The flag post at the entrance seems to be an idea borrowed from Kerala temple architecture.

Its beautiful church and wonderful spiritual atmosphere. They even have 3 Masses on a daily basis. But mosquito bite is problem here.. especially after they turn the fan off...Not sure whether anybody can do anything about this...we live in Kochi... Definitely the best church in the area..

Traditionally Catholic Churches in Kerala followed some local variant of the Gothic style. But faced with shortage of space and increase in the size of congregations, churches in Kerala are experimenting with newer architectural styles. This church is a good illustration. This church is basically built in an industrial style: vast area enclosed by a canopy supported on steel girders. However the architect has incorporated certain traditional elements such as a spire with a cross at the top. Also stained glass windows have been used. All in all, it is a creative response to a challenging design problem. But the interior design of the church is a disappointment. It is too ornate and busy. It should have been kept a little more industrial in line with the overall architectural style of the building. This church is a watershed in the evolution of church design in Kerala.

Of all other churches I have visited in my life ,this church only I like to go for midnight mass as this church can accommodate a big crowd of people with good high ventilation,we dont feel any suffocation and also the giant fan is an added advantage .parking spaces are not sufficient enough but since outside the road vehicles can be parked without bothering traffic ,this church is ok

This church is located at the heart of the city. The people are so elegant. I got a chance to preach Retreat in the Parish and people attended the program with lot of grace
