Very peacefu!! Feeding flocks of pigeon is an amazing experience. A must visit place to clean your soul if you are in Kochi๐
Beautiful experience visiting the Jain temple. We being non Jains, one kind lady guided us through the areas of the temple allowed for us to enter. Photography is not allowed inside the temple. But you can take outside photos. The most amazing part of the visit was feeding the pigeons. Around 12.15 hundreds of pigeons start circling the temple and at 12.20 they gather at the feeding spot. It is such a beautiful sight to see and if you are lucky they may even feed from your hands. No restriction on taking photos/videos.Really a peaceful place and nice to see local Gujaratis speaking so fluent Malayalam.
Dedicated to the 15th Tirthankara of Jains, is the Dharmanath Temple at Mattancherry in Kochi, Kerala. The temple is believed to be about 100 years old, and is one of the famous Jain temples with beautiful marble-cut architecture. It was built by King Bhanu Raja and his wife, Queen Suvrata Rani.42 kilometers away is the Kochi International Airport, and also at a distance of just 10 kilometers is the Ernakulum Junction railway station. So you can reach Dharmanath Temple either way. However, if you choose to go via boat (ferry ride) from Ernakulum to Mattancherry, you also get to enjoy the scenic beauty of the place.
We were there on 30/10/2017.We have reach there by 11:30 atleast. The temple authorities we really really warm and happy to explain the things to us. The let us to feed the pigeons. We were able to witness the event were pigeons rotate around the temple 3 times . Which will happen at around 12:15 every day

Very welcoming. Have to be well aware of their traditions. Got a minimal glimpse into the Gujarati Jain community based in fort kochi.
Such a good ambiance ๐
Devine atmosphere, very serene and clean. Jainism is epitome of ahimsa, non violence. Youll find lot of peace here.

The place is so peaceful. There are guides to show you around the place and they are very helpful. Tells you about the deities present. Photography is allowed outside the temple. But taking photos of the deities inside are not allowed. There are a few dress codes to be adhered to, but its simple and to be expected. The temple is famous for its practice of pigeon feeding. It happens at 12.15pm everyday, and anyone can participate.
Do try giving grains to pigeons, too awesome experience.
Jain Temple, dedicated to Shri Dharmanath, the 15th Jain Tirthankar, is another religious institution of Mattancherry. Built in 1960, the temple complex is sprawled over a large area with various blocks constructed for prayers and as places for offerings. The architecture of the temple is inspired by the Jain temples of Gujarat.
Most popular in Cochin and very beautiful temple
This Jain Temple is famous for its Pigeon Feeding activity, strictly between 12:15 pm - 12:30 pm, daily. The pigeons are well around the temple spirals high up in the sky close to noon.No sooner the temple bells ring around 12 noon, the pigeons get ready to alight to the floor after taking rounds. This is followed by the priest offering the first serving at 12-15.Then the other dedictated temple authorities recite prayer versus inviting visitors to feed the birds. Its simply an experience of what freedom feels like :)
Every day, at 12.00 noon, pigeons gather to feed. They patiently wait on the rooftops. At the resounding beat of the thali, they start circling the spire, going round n round.Signalled to stop, they descend in the courtyard. The guardian then recites his prayers. The grain is spread all around.Time to feast.Tourists in kOCHI, make it a point to reach on time. The sense of joy and contentment is mutual !!!
Most beautiful and serene place in the world

Very welcoming. Have to be well aware of their traditions. Got a minimal glimpse into the Gujarati Jain community based in fort kochi.
Calm and blissful place. The pigeon feeding was a great and refreshing experience for my family
If you decide its a tourist attraction, then relax on some of the rules. Otherwise just let people take pictures outside and no one go inside.
Beautiful place. A very quite and well maintained temple. You may struggle to find parking nearby as it is old Town Kochi (Fort Kochi) with narrow lanes. We had a peaceful time here meditating.
NOTE: Visitors are not allowed at present due to Covid-19.
Preservation of culture and history.. Girls should wear proper dress or else they will provide skirt to wrap around .. Pigeon show / feeding at 12:15pm everyday
Beautiful atmosphere and great feeling of peace here. Just come here for some time and relax from outside busy life.

Jain Temple 115 years old.Biggest attraction of this Jain temple complex is the sight of seeing the feeding of the birds at midday.Everyday sharp at midday the locals temple worshippers call out to the birds, especially the pigeons for feeding. Once the bell rings the birds start hovering outside around the main temple Shikhar. Once the recitation of the prayers starts, the birds start going around the Shikar for three rounds and only on the completion of the prayers do they come down to the clearing for feeding.Loads of Jains and non Jains come here everyday at midday to watch this.Jain Temple 115 years old with the main deity as Tirthankar Dharmanathji on the first floor.Within the compound is another temple with Tirthankar Suparshwanathji as the main deity. There is a small dehry (small temple) of miraculous Tirthankar Shantinathji.Sthanakwasi Upashraya is also within the compound. There is s small Dharamshala of four to five rooms with air-conditioning within the same compound.
