Sort of neglected step well in Jodhpur. It could be cleaned and would serve dual purpose of storage of real clean water and a tourist attraction as well. It can be accessed/ explored by foot or by a bike, bringing car will be tough and to park as well. No parking or other public facilities around. All around this place there are many tourist oriented eateries and cheap accommodation. You may find restaurants and hotels with boards in Russian, Chinese and other foreign languages.Rajasthan was among the first in the world to know and develop stepwells to store water which helped in summer and help maintain good water level and keep surroundings cool. Apathy towards our old knowledge makes us ignore it.
Amazing architecture and incredible carvings. However despite of being an historic monument, this place was completely dirty and people keep spitting around the steps with tobacco and equivalent products. As per the people around this was being used to dump all the debris and waste of nearby areas, however its been recently cleaned and restored by an Irish man single handedly as it was completley neglected by local people and authorities. Its a great monument and need to be maintained by local authorities from people who are making it dirty by spitting all over the steps and in the water body.
These age old jhalra were once built to sustain water needs of the city. One such jhalra is this mahila bagh ka jhalra. The sad side like any structure in the area is the Ill maintenance and ofcourse the dogs and pigeons doing their business around. But spend a few minutes here under the shade of one of the corners and stare at angelic white fishes glimmeringly swimming through the water. And its as zen as any place can get.
Reach this step well by taking a right turn after coming out to Oldcity from Ghataghar square. Located near to Gulabsagar lake, opposite to the lake. The place is okay and the water in stepwell contains lots of fishes. Swimming here is not advisable. The stepwell is not so clean and maintained. Still a good spot to visit.
The lovely, multi-layered and multi-hued structure appears in no guidebook, on any tour, or in hardly anyone’s consciousness. But it wasn’t always that way. Stepwells were sophisticated water-harvesting structures built throughout India starting around 600 CE.
Lots of peace.. Can sit for a long time alone and watching water is amazing.. Good place for hanging out with friends.. Tourist attraction point in jodhpur.. Can see water storage system of earlier times..
Best sample of the marwad empires creative arts on stone. Its also known as the Turji ka Jhalra. Hot spot for outsiders Traveller.
Now a days its very popular for swimming and shooting. It is very old place and have heritage look. In summer season it is full of tourist and you can here with family. And some restaurant and hotel are also available here.

Good place.. But some cleaning issue... Tere are some fishes also
Good place located in the heart of the city but the issue is cleanliness. one of the best stepwell in Rajasthan. best in Jodhpur zone. now a days popular for swimming and shooting. history prove itself. name is enough to explain it. suggest everyone to go here once if u are coming to jodhpur. historical place and history is so long to prove its glory. it is important for suncity tourism like mehrangarh, jashwant thadda, mandore and ummed bhawan. it is very important place for tourism. cleaning is must to improve its glory. otherwise this is one of the best historical place for jodhpur and jodhpuri people can proud on itself.
