One of the best libraries Ive ever been too. Great views from the upper floor, you can enjoy the sunset while reading a nice book. Also they have the middle floor for students to do brainstorming & mix together with all kinds of technology devices. Ill be back next time maybe even this afternoon. Lastly the entire building from the outside looks like the DNA Double Helix 10/10

Truly fantastic new central library! This building is a treat on itself, not to mention the outstanding set-up where the books in various languages (mainly Finnish, Swedish and English) are treated equally -- rather than being separated in different sections of the building.Plenty of nice hidden nooks for sitting down and enjoying browsing a magazine, making a start of reading a new book, or simply observing the hustle and bustle of the city.Lots of creative ideas for updating the role of libraries in the modern society, including makers spaces, lending much more than just books and good IT resources. This truly is a library for everyone!

No mistake this is a lovely family friendly space for people to visit and enjoy the environment surrounding libraries. Interactive stations for sewing, making things (3d printers, design spaces, etc), local cinema, restaurant, accessible toilets, and much more. In case reading needs inspiration, there are great views from the main (top) floor of books. It is a few minutes from the central train station, and lots of accessible features. Staff are helpful and speak Finnish, Swedish and English very well. Toilets are unisex, but small cubicles. Accessible toilets use the modern active symbol for disabilities. Absolutely amazing building - both aesthetically and functionally. It’s a public library that is open and accessible for everyone. You don’t need a library card to get in, but it is needed if you want to use some of the facilities. On the second floor there is a maker space, sewing machines, big plotters and printers, game rooms, and a lot of space to hang out, study or work. The library is on the third very spacious and light filled floor. On the on side of it you have space for small kids and on the other area where you can work and concentrate.Great example of what a public library/space should be! So well thought through, warm, welcoming and full of activities and people.

The library is situated in the Töölönlahti district next to Helsinki Music Centre and Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art. The estimated costs of the new library was 98 million euros, of which the state agreed to pay 30 million in connection with the centenary of Finlands independence in 2017.The City of Helsinki budgeted 66 million euros for the building
