It is a historical building with many art shows on and off. Generally it shows adult movies three times a day on a big screen. It is a great place to chill during the movie hours of 10:00, 2:00 and 6:00 pm. They show some foreign adult movies. Great place to sit down and relax. The clientele is generally male during the adult movies. Very friendly staff and entrance is Rs. 200 for the movies. Sit or stroll around.

Was there during an art exhibition. It’s a rundown cinema converted to a gallery.

This is an old bulding. And older cinema theater in Colombo.I wanted to visit there, to see old Wallarts in Colombo. So I went there, to see the art at the Rio Cinema.Only a limited area remains open. But when we asked some guy in there, he took us and opened that side. It It was on the side of the pool. And it was a dirty place, but there were a lot of old wallarts. Even though those wallarts crumble, there is some strange art. If you love wallarts, then definitely go to this place.

Good place for photo shoot

It isnt a functional cinema but used as a exhibition and show space. Has been left to deteriorate so much that it has gone past the artsy look and is more of a health and safety nightmare waiting to happen. It would be a great location for the zombie nights that are springing up across major cities worldwide!

Rio Cinema Hotel builiding is now like a small ghost town... but it can be still rent as some shooting area as we have done.. the antict look of the building floors... can be helpfull for your productions

Perfect isolated, old fashioned, rustic, haunted ambience.... Good view point at the rooftop.

Best place to hookup for gays .. at 6.30 show time.

Visited here for Colombo scope! Excellent venue and I hope more to come for this place

Old movie theater. Which shows lot of adults only movies. Not recommended for family. Or take kids. Need lot of renovation.

TOTALLY AMAZED TO SEE SUCH AN OLD CINEMA STILL STANDING ALTHOUGH IT LOOKS BAD FROM THE EXTERIOR. AN AMAZING PIECE OF ARCHITECTURE I FEEL.

A place to visit in Colombo. I visited an art exhibition as part of the Colomboscope festival, attended a conference on underwater exploration of Sri Lanka and conversed with a mermaid! (It was an artistic performance ;-)But the building alone is worth a visit.

Parking facilities in front of the cinema are almost non-existent
