Visited Kipling cafe for a birthday lunch. The ambience was good. The naan and gravy tasted good. The panneer tikka was amazing. It was delicious. But the chicken breast steak with mashed potatoes was bad. The meat was not completely cooked and the sauce did not pair well with the whole dish and the mashed potatoes were too rich the veggies were good and crunchy. Overall it was a decent experience. Definitely recommend for the ambience. Instagrammable!

Had been to this on a saturday afternoon and this place was very full. This is located in ECR very closer to the beach is a very spacious garden themed place. Unfortunately we visited in the afternoon and opted for an indoor seat. We started with chicken soup with was creamy and good, and then 2 chicken grills, one was from the continental menu and another one was thai, the continental was good. On main course we went for chicken pad thai, spinach ravioli and bbq pizza. The pad thai was the showsteeler. The taste of the food was average but very overly priced. The place also had bar, from the reviews and online details I was not aware that it had bar. The place is not ideal for food lovers, but for ppl who wanna spend good time in a good ambience. Will I go back sometime....... sorry!

A multi cuisine restaurant offering a range from Continental to Italian Pastas and Pizzas to Thai to Indian... brought to ECR half hour south of Chennai. The food was fresh, light, and flavorful. The ambiance was hip with candle lights and a trendy crowd, the place was packed.Executive chef, Sydney DSouza is friendly and took the time to make us feel welcome! Though we did not try it yesterday, he recommended the Kipling special chicken kebabs made in a uniquely Kipling way. Will try next time.

Had been to this place almost 8yrs back and it was a quiet cosy place and food is served in one of shamiana. But things have changed a lot. The seating arrangements are increased and there is 6!tables inside the restaurant which is air conditioned.We decided to sit out. Even though sum was at its peak around 2pm somehow the large fans helped.They have 2 menus and they serve almost all cuisine. Ordered humus and cheese fingers for starters. I felt the humus was dry and could have had some vegetables dipped mayonnaise. Cheese fingers were brilliant.We didnt want to stuff so order paneer tikka masala, peas pulow and phulka. I have tasted better peas pulow so it was nothing great but good. Phulka arrived hot and went very well with phulka. The ratio of paneer and the gravy could have been better. Only 4 to 5 paneer piece in main course. A tad spicy and my daughter ate 2!phulkas but couldnt take more spice that too without AC.Last point that can be improved is the person taking the order. We ordered to 3 different people but the person who was managing our table was not aware. Plus its little loud so everytime when you scream EXCUSE ME, everyone sitting in restaurant turns and looks but not rhe person who is supposed to come. So everytime to call the waiter, I had to clap my hands and was embarrassed.Ambience 5/5 if you dont mind sunFood Taste 4/5. No wow factorService 3/5. This is one area which can be definitely improved.

One of the best places to have Thai food. In general, every food item tastes good. Good Ambience - a combination of open dining, hut dining, huge gang dining and roof top dining. It looks heavenly at evening when lit up with only dim lights. The people who work here are well-behaved and respectful.Can be considered for a family get-together or any kind of gathering.

They were the first to come up with a restaurant that has a rustic, eco-friendly ambience and offered the most sophisticated food and service to their customers. Kipling has always been a favourite dine out for our expat clients in Chennai along the East Coast Road . I had been there recently since the Covid lockdown and was delighted to see that the ambience, the food and the service was just as good as it has always been. My friends and I enjoyed our lunch and it felt so good to be back in my fav restaurant again. Our special thanks to Vetri for his exemplary service and for going out of his way to help us decide from the delectable dishes on the menu and even trying to customise our beverages and desserts. They got a huge place and a nice ambience, especially comparing to the surrounding ones in that area. Food is very average, if I take it at an overal level, leaving a few that are better than average like Thai red curry and soups. Cocktails are mediocre (have not seen anyone mixing sugar syrup for margarita, the original mix of it must be only tequila, cointreau and lime juice). Mocktails are overpriced and nothing unique. The food is again got a mixed feelings and it depends on your luck in choosing. Roti and palak paneer tasted not good, would have been better in many ordinary restaurants or daba where you would pay half the price. Tofu and paneer are avoidable as the chef definitely does not give attention to the freshness or the quality in its selection. If you are in that area and looking for a peaceful place to have time with friends or the family, it is ok to go as there is no other place with this much space and social distancing. All waiters wear masks. Menu is hardcopy printout.

I would give it 3 borderline, but I did enjoy some aspects of my meal here.I visited with my husband. We ordered the lemongrass prawns, Kipling special veg pizza, Chocolate Liquor Shake, Green Apple Mocktail, Chicken with Mash potatoes, and some cheese garlic bread.I loved the prawn and the chicken. The pizza was dry and the garlic bread was okay. Could have been better. For the hype it was so so.The ambience was good, but there were too many flies. Spoke to the waiters about it. They say that theyve taken it up with the management, but not sure why its not fixed yet. Would have been okay if the flies were not a part of the meal.Overall it was an okay experience. Couldve been better. They can definitely improve on the above.

Impeccable service!! Joy deep was an excellent server. Top notch quality food. The Thai drunken noodles had a perfect balance between spicy, sweet and umami, very impressed with the quality of food. The drink options are also very vast with a very good blend of ingredients.

It was a date evening, and after ages in Chennai. My date picked the place and I knew its going to be a disaster. When, right after I got seated.Booked the place through Zomato and reached on time. Btw, my date was 30 minutes late. Compensated by picking up the cheque.I was asked to get seated at the terrace on the 2nd floor. The interior is amazing on the garden area. With gazebo set tables, candle light and what not. The parking is on the streets of the beach road and you need to get there early, as weekends are packed.The terrace is no treat, with one person to take care of 6 tables.I went in, saw that the girl to attend was busy with her phone. So, picked a table and sat there. She suddenly came by and asked me to pick the table on the other side. No reason, and it wasnt even reserved. I didnt want to pick an argument, so moved to the other table.As I was sitting there, I saw that this girl who was attending the table wasnt paying attention at all. Asked for warm water and got it after 20 minutes. I lost appetite seeing the service.Asked for fries, beverages, whisky and turamisu. Beverages werent available, so we had to adjust with what was available for the day. The fries were soggy and the dip we asked for, never arrived in the next 60 minutes we were there. You can see the sorry state of the dessert on the picture. Its good specially the mashed potatoes. Also given the situation having a few feet distance between one table to the other then its all the better which is what this location provides with its setup. A quick feedback though the service could be a little lively and with a smile and for food the dessert could use improvement. Loved the lamb skewers, steak and mushroom soup.

Not worth the premium you pay for. The service is horrible. We were given a rooftop table. The stairs leading to the rooftop was dirty. The entire place was devoid of good ambience. The staff needs to be trained better. The waitress was scratching her head when asked about the food. She missed some cutleries. Fantastic ambiance to spend quality time eating with friends, Also for couples and family. Quite a huge space present between each table kept under shacks. Loved the taste of all the food we ordered especially their Chicken Sizzlers that tasted super delicious along with an amazing flavor. Thanks to the Chef Mr.Sydney who made this beautiful dish for us. Also the Curried Mushroom Cups was delicious to eat along with Kuboos Bread. The table service was super friendly with us.

Delicious food and great ambience. But the service and hospitality was at its worst when we had visited. Restaurant had some issue with their servers and the said the orders weren’t getting placed, it took 1 hour for us to get our food and drinks served.The bad experience became worst when a chef named “Sydney” came to our table and asked us how was the food and everything. When we mentioned the food was not yet delivered and we had been waiting for over an hour, he said that issues happen everywhere, even in my work place issues could happen. I feel it is not right to justify an issue to a customer after asking for feedback, it is better not to ask feedback in the first place.I hope the management looks into how the customers are treated.

This is what I call a 5 star experience. The food, the ambience, the people, the staff, MINDBLOWING. This level of service, this level of making the guests feel welcome, they have set the bar high! I do not think I’ve ever been somewhere where it is so heartwarming. I would come back every day if possible, well every week for sure. The executive chef, Sydney, not only does he create the most amazing COCONUT FRIED PRAWNS, but the way he interacts with you is just unimaginable. And a special mention to Sanjay, our server, who was so sweet since the moment we entered till the time we left, always there to help. Love love love it!

The ambience of the place is nice, but I feel some of the items are overpriced like their continental fare. The bruschetta was too less in quantity, neither was the taste extraordinary and wasnt worth 350 bucks. To be honest, their Indian food was much better. Its a nice place to chill and go to the beach afterwards. Also pedestal fans can be set up at the non-hut dining area, as it was extremely hot.

The rustic ambience outside and the english style seating and furniture made it a perfect place to meet and catch up with dear friends. Heard so much about the restaurant. Visited it for the first time yesterday. No parking space. Made reservations over phone for two , ended up being told that our number wasnt on the list. A beautiful, private and a picturesque setting for a quiet meal. It has always been our favourite. What was special this time was Chef Sidney’s signature fish dishes that we ordered. It was a treat for our taste buds. The fish was cooked to perfection, veggies tossed just right, sauces excellent! The ambience was good. We took a hut with decoration as it was 1st anniversary. It cost us 2.5k for balloons, candles and the decoration. Honestly it would not have been more than 1.5 for everything. So the rest 1k is to considered as service charges.Now the food was of three cusines - Continental, Thai and Indian. We took the Indian non-veg platter which had more than enough for 2 and most of them were tasty. And then we took a Thai drunken noodle(Guay Tiew Pad kee mo) with the exception of fish sauce if they are going to add any. The drunken noodle dish was too good with mixed vegetables. The vegetables was cooked through, zucchini and baby corn had a bit of a crunch which was a good element. Over all a nice experience. Took a few good photos. Think the best time to visit would be around 4 Pm with the evening light to a delightful sight of the restaurant.!

Visited The Kipling cafe on a rainy Thursday afternoon. The ambience was truly peaceful and soothing .But the most overwhelming experience was definitely the food .We tried the Kipling special chicken kebab ,a true wonderous masterpiece .The succulent chicken with crispy crust was a harmonious medley of exotic flavours. We were pleasantly surprised to meet the inventor of the dish himself Chef Sydney who explained us that the dish was an amalgamation of Indian and Indonesian cuisines.We also appreciate Mr Vetri . Great setting with a lot of greenery and lovely outdoor seating. They had IPL in the big screen but did not matter as CSK did so badly 😮 We liked the Veg Pad Thai and the spring roll. The Pizza and Mushroom Balls were also decent.

Their website says you can reserve, I entered the information and reserved. I tried calling an hour back to confirm but no one picked the phone for several tries. Then when I arrive there they say their website doesn’t save reservations and there’s absolutely nothing they can do about it. What a joke!

A good roof top restaurant in Chennai to spend time with your loved ones.

The food, the ambience, the service everything was on spot yesterday when we reached there with my 10 friends. But yes dont forget to have reservation earlier. The manager was generous enough to gave us the cabana on our request and we had a blast of time over there. The price was reasonable for this kind of place. What to tell you about food, whatever we ordered was delicious be it Kolhapuri paneer tikka, veg platter, hara bhara kabab, stuffed mushrooms tikka, dal makhni and paneer tikka masala in veg. And tandoori chicken and butter chicken in non-veg. Looking forward to see you again Kipling cafe.

Kipling Cafe is an amazing location for celebrations. My friends & myself had a lovely time in the afternoon. Ambiance is obviously good no doubt & the staff is also polite & welcoming. drinks were very refreshing considering the changing weather.food was good especially Tom yum chicken soup, Kipling special chicken kebab, Paneer tikka & Tawa fish. Chef Sidney was considerate & polite and made sure our orders were delivered immediately although there was slight delay which is understood knowing the footfalls in the restaurant. I had a lovely birthday celebration today.

This was a place i heard a lottt about. And finally got to make it on a new year. The location is fantastic, the only disadvantage was that we went on a wrong date. Since it was new year, we could not have Ala carte and my wish to eat some special items could not be fulfilled like the stuffed chicken...They gave us the bad news that they only have buffet on the new year. It was really crowded and many items were almost over and barely refilled. Had good time taking pics and spending some leisure time. Will have to try it on some other day to check on the main dishes they serve. Rates are slightly high. The buffet was for 1000 rs and not that worth it, again maybe the crowd was the reason. They serve drinks too, and we just had mocktails and frankly did not like it that much....

The Coconut friend prawns I had today was so bad that itll take me a few months before I can think of eating prawns 🤮Having said that, pastas and pizzas were quite good.EDIT: I asked the chef who visited our table to taste the prawns but he refused. Maybe he knew 🤔

We arrived just before the dusk. Our table was reserved from before as it was a Sunday and it pulled out a good decent crowd by the time we left in the night. Google map helped us to reach the destination as in ECR you need to take left inside the street. So dont miss the turn.It was a lovely ambiance with the darkness. They placed candles in the table. Service was on time though almost all the tables were filled up. We had Prawn tempura as starters. Continental as the main course and Tiramisu in the dessert. The food quality is no doubt good. Even they have good options of hard drinks in case you wanna have few pegs or a chilled beer. Due to darkness and low light pictures wont be perfect.Its a nice place to spend time with your loved ones. Open area with a good set up of small pot plants and few trees. Kids will also enjoy too. Parking place is also available and if u want you reserve your table and come.Not sure how it will be during the daytime, better to avoid. Overall satisfied.

Ambience is great! Location is close to the beach but theres no sea view from the restaurant. Food is tasty and staff are very humble and quick to respond. Overall loved the experience here!
