The front elevation of the restaurant was the only good part of this joint, was misled by that. All the dishes tasted the same and very bland. There is lot of options from breads, stew, grill, kebab, doner etc. But none of them were exceptional. Basically tasted like an extension of a roadside shawarmas. Wanted to try the turquish coffee, but they didnt have it. Also they didnt have any sea food items. My last only hope was Kunafa and it arrived after a long wait time. Come on folks...... this is definitely not Kunafa! Not sure if it was due to covid impact, none of the servers had any hospitality signs to the customers. Will I come back to this place again, I would rather pick a random shawarma order from Swiggy.

When I tried to reserve a table in advance, I couldnt book it. I was told to fend for myself. We went there as a big group and got a table. Good was OK, nothing exceptional. I have tried Turkish cuisine before. Food at Al Souk didnt match that. Parking was not available. All in all, worth a visit.

Food:Moroccon chunky chicken shorba - Clear chicken broth with medium to little meat pieces; broth had very mild flavors, too watery, not a great one though.NV Mezze sampler - Chose two cold (Hummus and Moutable) and two hot (Meat Borek); both the cold dips were perfect and went well with pita breads, nothing to complain much; the Borek was different, though the beef was well cooked, the whole filling should have had an amalgamation of all flavors (personal opinion).Chicken Shawarma roll - One big roll of meaty shawarma; mild-spiced with tender meat and crunchy veggies; full marks for the thick mayo.Harissa spiced wings - Best dish of the day with hot saucy spiced chicken wings with its own crunch; too hot but perfectly spiced with finger licking good gravy.Chicken Kabsa - Arabian spiced rice with dry fruits and meat; not the best since it lacked the kick and flavor big time; meat could have been saturated even better.Chicken Doner - Second best dish comes up with whole load of meat dumped inside Turkish flat bread along with fries and sauce; the meat was juicy while the flavors were bursting all around with every bite.Moroccan tagine chicken - Traditional spiced chicken stew with rice; had more of a sour taste with olives and the gravy; couldve had more meat since the overall taste was just okay upon mixing rice and gravy.Kunafa - Perfect end to the meal with the semolina based pastry; the gooey cheese stuffing in the center with the sugary syrup glazing (leave it to soak on the pastry for a while); crunchy, sweet and creamy on the other side, GOODAmbience/Price:Not the best place to talk about ambience since there were hardly 5-6 tables with limited off street parking space. The service was appreciable with great recommendation and knowledge sharing about every dish. Great lighting and swift service deserves a thumbs up but when it comes to amenities, this place leaves a big hole. Moreover the prices seem exorbitant and I hope they could work something on that.*Personal rating would be a 3.5

I wonder how this restaurant got 4 star rating.I could have given 0 star if there is an option. I have ordered sulthan beef kebab from this restaurant which cost around 400 . Frankly speaking this was the worst food I ever had in Chennai. Beef not even cooked 75% and also less in quantity for an item costs 400. Beef not even tasted like kebab. I felt like mandi beef. Pita accompanied also tasted hell. Please dont go for it.

A chance to discover the exotic and remarkable flavours of Middle eastern Cuisine is right here, only at Al souk. This new restaurant situated in the heart of the city is sure to lure us in with its wonderful aroma and arabic melodies while also bestowing upon us, a varied gastronomic experience (from Turkey to Lebanon to Egypt to the whole of Arabia).u2029u2029As I set foot inside, I found the place to be quite lively and picturesque. There was something so beautiful about the decor, right from the lights to the carpets to the ceilings and the walls. Such intricate pieces of art indeed. u2029u2029As we settled down, we were served with fresh, yeasty Turkish Pide and two sauces. We then started off with some soft and delicious pita bread along with a cold mezze platter consisting of Tahini, Moutable, Muhammara, Hummus and Taztukhi. The cold mezze was rich and creamy in texture and was absolute bliss. u2029u2029Taztukhi, a garlic and cucumber based dip was one of my favourites. Also, Hummus, a dip made with chickpea mash is not to be missed ❤️ It is a very popular Middle Eastern delicacy.Moutable is an eggplant based dip which is a little on the spicier, tangy side while Muhammara is a bit nutty with a tinge of paprika.Tahini is a simple, greek yougurt that also tastes delicious with the breads! u2029We then tried some hot, crunchy and flat Falafel Balls.I also loved their Moroccan Kudhara Borek and Egyptian Chicken Sambusak which tasted more like a Spring Roll or even a Samosa.u2029u2029In order to beat the summer heat, we ordered for their Iced Tea, Sweet Laban and Rooh Afza. These were super soothing and refreshing. u2029u2029Laban was much needed in this scorching heat. You have options of strawberry / Mango / Plain (Sweet / Salt).Rooh-Afza loaded with the goodness from fruits, flowers, roots and herbs was pure bliss. You can just feel the heat go down!u2029u2029Next on the list was some scrumptious Chicken Shawarma. Oh boy, How much I missed this authentic Arab-style Shawarma in Chennai. This was worth the wait and was fantastic from start to end. Tahini sauce adds a great punch and makes it flavoursome. A beef variant is available as well.u2029u2029Shakshuka is another delicacy which you cant miss when dining here. This can work as a breakfast option and also tastes great with pita bread. We really enjoyed this dish. u2029u2029To end this fantastic meal on a sweet note, we tried their Baklava and Kanafeh. These are hard to miss!Baklava is usually filled with nuts, honey / syrup and is super crunchy. It has always been my favourite. This was yum!!On the other hand, Kanafeh is made with semolina, soaked in sugar syrup and topped off with pistachio and / or almond. These are quite sticky usually.I am pretty sure some of these names are hard to remember, but these are really worth remembering!A very promising place to visit in terms of quality and experience! Very much recommended!

A new addition to the limited list of middle eastern restaurants in chennai.Location - located in Nungambakkam on a Traffic free road. Google maps will lead you exactly to this location.Parking - no problem for car and bike parking as the street is wide enough and without any traffic.Ambience - right from the entrance they have put efforts to give a middle eastern look. Restaurant can hold about 40 people at a time.Food - coming to food, all the dishes have the middle eastern name, so make sure to check with the server about the dishes. We started with complementary garlic bread with two dips. Must try dishes here are the beef ones. The beef pieces are so tender and juicy. Also dont miss their Lassi varieties. A perfect drink to have with the food itemsIn desserts, Kunafa is the winner. Yummy and soft cheese stuffed pastry.Service - was ok. Since most of the food names were new to us, we had to ask the name of dishes again and again. Would be helpful if the bsereRating them 4/5 for their unique dishes from middle eastern cuisine. And their affordable pricing.

If you’re looking for an authentic Arabian style restaurant in Chennai. I would surely recommend this place. It feels as if you’ve been suddenly teleported from Chennai to a place such as Turkey. The ambience is genuine Arabian- dim lighting, arabic songs playing in the background and all that. The food is genuine arabic too. We had hummus (that comes with kubbus), lamb kapsa and kebab khash khash. And, while all the three were genuine Arabian preparation, personally I felt the Kapsa topped them in the taste and flavour department. We finished the meal with a dessert called Kunafa, which was great too!If Arabian is what you’re looking for, Al Souk will give you a pleasant surprise. One tip: Take a good look at the menu before ordering something. There’s beef, chicken, lamb and fish across the menu.

The food was good. But for people from the middle east, please dont expect the same taste of mandi or madhbi or kabsa you have tasted in the gulf. The taste is not even close. Its not worth it to wait and try their chicken kabsa.Kunafa was good, they got that right.Service and the waiters attitude is totally not acceptable. They should learn how to talk to their customers and handle a crowd. The cleanliness was not upto its mark. The glasses were smelly and was not clean.Verdict : For people who knows the real taste of mandi or madhbi or any arabic food, this is not the restaurant for you guys. Food and Ambience both need to be worked upon , Theres a lot of scope for improvement if they take reviews seriously. The food does taste scrumptious but they put some sweet sour sauce on most of the items which completely put me off. It could be served as an option because middle Eastern food generally doesnt have a sweet sour taste.Cant pick any particular dish to call it a favorite. Roohafza drink was nice but mainly Went there to eat the cheese Kunafa but even that was a little disappointing. Guyssss please put good mozarella cheese in a cheese kunafa so that its nice and stretchy and gives it that balanced taste when you pour the sugar syrup in it and add some orange zest or rose water to add some dimension to the sugar syrup!Staff is friendly but Ambience needs serious working, so dull and dingy, not well aerated . Al Souk – Meaning “The Market”, a newbie Restaurant that brings out the best of Middle Eastern Cuisine in Chennai. As apt for the Cuisine, the theme, interiors, wall décor, ambience, everything perfectly sticks on to the same. Beautiful Wall Paintings depicting The Market of the Middle East, Bright Ambience with Antique Showpieces decorated with Red, White and Blue Theme. You might need help when you order the dishes as the names are all unique for a first timer at a Middle Eastern Themed Restaurant but Thanks to whoever designed the Menu, they’ve got a small description of each dish and friendly staffs who recommend and suggest you the best of dishes they serve. It is my First Time at a Middle Eastern Restaurant and I love the fact that they have sticked on to its Authenticity by not modifying any recipes for the likings of South Indian Palate. All Neophiliacs, this experience is something that y’all are going to enjoy without a doubt!Keep Reading to know more about our Food Experience at Al Soul!🔸Beiruti Hummus : Hummus gets its name from the arabic word for chickpeas. Served with 3 pita breads and drizzled with olive oil & Pomegranate, I personally found this dish to be very bland that did not suit my palate but my friends who were introduced to Middle Eastern Cuisine loved the Authenticity of it.🔸Tabbouleh Salad : The OMG So Healthy Salad! Reading the description of it itself gave us the ‘woah we eating healthy’ feels! A Levantine Salad – Traditionally made in the Arab Countries with most finely chopped parsley, veggies and seasoned with olive oil, lemon juice!🔸Manakeesh Bi Zaatar : We all have had Oreganos and for some of us our favourite Pizza, Pasta is nothing without Oreganos Topping! If you are confused why I am preaching about Oreganos, Manakeesh Bi Zaatar is a dish that is made by a Herb called Thyme. Thyme is a herb from the greens family similar to that of Oreganos. Now you know why I had Oreganos coming into the picture! Manakeesh is a Flat Bread tossed with Olive Oil and spread with Thyme and Cheese!🔸Foul Moudamas : Pronounced as ‘ful – mu – dammas’, local food served in the Arab Countries accompanied with Pita Bread or Rice. To me, this dish stood out by itself and I dint need any accompaniments to go along with it.🔸Fattoush Salad : One more OMG so healthy feels! The usual Health Bowl with all things Veggies and All things Good. Crunchy with Cheese Crispies & Tangy with the Squeezed Lemon Juice🔸Shakshuka Ottolenghi : A Tuninsian Dish that got popular in Jerusalem & Israel. I loved every single thing about this dish. Shakshuka Ottolenghi – the name and its pronounciation – Shakshukaa! How beautifully Plated with Baked Eggs and its Tangy Level 15/10 that perfectly suited my palate and went along with Bread, Rice & to me even to have it separately as a soup!🔸Kibdha Laham Roll : This is a Must Try for All Beef Lovers. Strips of Beef Liver which was quiet Flavourful in a roll served with Fries, Salad, Inhouse made Sriracha & Mayo Dip.🍹For the refreshments, we had :🔸Rooh Afza : Rose Flavoured Sweet & Fragrant Refreshing Drink. Literally you drink the Rose.🔸Mango Leban & Strawberry Leban : Leban in Arabic means Fermented Milk. Mango Leban was inbetween the consistency of Juice and a Thickshake that makes you think if you are having a real mango pulp or syrup.🍨For the Dessert, we had :🔸Muhallebi :A Rich Milk Pudding Dessert that I could never get enough of! Rich, Creamy & Loaded with Nuts and sprinkled with Pomegranate!Al Souk, stands out to be the first Restaurant that serves Authentic Middle Eastern Cuisine in Chennai. After visiting Al Souk and having tried their dishes, I was keen on reading and knowing a lot about Middle Eastern Cuisine Specialities, origin and their Culture which was pretty Interesting! Will I visit this place again? Hell Again & Again & Again, YES!

We asked it to be replaced, waiter takes it in, chef comes out and yells mutton chops and all cant be replaced, if they want will give them chicken instead.
