The Government College of Fine Arts (initially known as the Madras School of Art) in Chennai is the oldest art institution in India. The institution was established in 1850 by surgeon Alexander Hunter as a private art school. In 1852, after being taken over by the government, it was renamed as the Government School of Industrial Arts.[1] In 1962, it was renamed as the Government School of Arts and Crafts and the Government College of Arts and Crafts, before finally being renamed as present.[2]
When will they open admission and release application form for this year ? When will they conduct BFA entrance exam?

The college itslf have own beauty. The atmosphere is really nice definitely you can feel that yass you are in any art college by seeing the surrounding environment. I went there on chennaiphotobiennale time for workshop. I had a great day on this college.
What an August location bang in the middle of the city, gorgeous buildings interspersed with some quaint art work all around , visited as it’s a part of the Chennai Photo Biennale’s venue, exhibiting some of the great photographers and artists work and how , right from Vivan Sundaram , Vijay Josh’s,P Sainath,Gauri Gill,Nalini Malini to Rabih Mroue of Lebanon/Germany with his compelling video documentary called Fractured . Worth spending a whole day looking at the visual treat of eclectic artists galore! and in the process getting to see the lovely college from the inside.the exhibition is on till the 24 th of March please to make it a must see activity for sure.
