Victory War Memorial, formerly called the Cupids bow, is a memorial in Chennai, India, originally constructed to commemorate the victory of the Allied Armies during World War I (1914–1918) and later became the victory war memorial for World War II (1939–1945), erected in the memory of those from the Madras presidency who lost their lives in the wars.[1] Later addition includes inscriptions of 1948 Kashmir Aggression, 1962 War with China and the Indo-Pakistan War.It is a circular rock and marble structure built in the area that formerly housed the coastal belfry. Within what was once called Cupids Bow stands a flag post with the Tricolour aflutter, and a squat tower that lances the sky. Beyond the red-and-gold pennants that line the path are steps that lead to a plaque replete with the names of men from the Madras Presidency who fell in two World Wars and those that followed Independence. The towering National Flag will be visible over a long distance and would be there throughout the year. The flag is expected to instill a feeling of oneness and patriotism amongst all the citizens and remind them about the supreme sacrifices made by our soldiers in the highest tradition of the Services. The flag mast measuring 30.5 meters in height proudly holds aloft the 20 feet by 30 feet Tricolour which adds to the grandeur of the Victory War Memorial.

What a design and what a structure simple super so patriotic scenarios if you visit that surroundings just opposite chennai port office. And midst of signal point on main road and almost 2kms from chennai central railway station and so neat and well protected by the staff the surrounding walls I mean some chains rounded this place. It is written 1938 and 1945 the war period memories. The stones color is so unique and as the morning sun rays falls on that memorial pillar its so bright and blowing with beautiful coloring and so photogenic and at the ground level ap Greene the park type they maintained.

This memorial called Victory War Memorial or simply War Memorial by local people is a Memorial built to honour and respect those who laid their lives in World War I (1914-18) and World War II (1939-45l) and to commemorate the Victory of Allies.Later it included the heroes of those who laid their lives in Wars of Kashmir Aggression (1948), Indo-China War, Pak war etc. Inscriptions on the tower describe this.I visited it in my young days and have been seeing this on number of occasion while passing through. It is centrally cated on Kamaraj Saalai in between Fort St. George and Marina Beach. From here a road lead to Central Railway Station. This place is very well maintained, spotless clean, and has a spread if Green carpet like lawns. Salute our Army people for this. It gives a patriotic feeling to all those who sees even from distance. This is a Circular Marble structure and there is a beautiful tower with inscriptions on those who lost their lives. Tricolour is hoisted and visible from long distance. When you pass through tell your children about this Memorial and those martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country. This will instill patriotism in young age and take them inside. History is seeing and feeling the events happened.

Beautiful mausoleum dedicated to the memory of martyrs who had fought in many wars that India was forced into. The place is in the middle of a busy road and adjacent to the gate 10 of Chennai port. You would see this but you wont look at it closely, thats what I had observed over the years. The place is designed like a traffic island. We couldnt find a proper entry way or a note about the monument. We went inside after jumping over a barricade. The atmosphere inside is calm and the traffic around us didnt bother us a lot. It is well maintained but theres no documents or note about the monument at the location.I wont suggest you to go to the spot to just visit this monument. But since attractions like marina beach and Napier bridge are around, you might want to take a detour and visit the spot. Its a nice place to get pictures. (Thats what I think :) )

It was pretty much good.Victory War Memorial is located to the South of Fort St. George where the Flag Staff Road meets the Beach Road adjacent to the Island Ground. A solemn place in Memory Martyrsthose who laid down their lives in the WWI and WWII. Later the Names of those Martyrs who fought the 1948, 1962, 1965, 1971 and Kargil Wars were added. There is a Large Tri-colour Flag of India which inspires the visitors to salute the Armed Forces and Para Military Forces for their selfless service to the Nation. The intensity is at the peak when you stand at the Tower for a few minutes with moist eyes. But the problem at present is that it is not accessible now. The people around hardly help through guiding which way to go. Own Google map is the only solution.
