I have completed both the Professional Certificate Courses – Fine Arts and Pottery at Life and Art Academy. I had initially joined the art course and upon completion, enrolled for the pottery program too. If you are passionate about Arts and Pottery, then this is one of the best places to learn in Chennai. In Art, all our sessions had live study, which helped us to increase our observation skills. The pottery learning environment is excellent, the teachers are knowledgeable and patient in imparting their skills to the students. I would like to thank Dewakar sir for his guidance and great support.I am very glad that I found Life and Art Academy to learn art and pottery and thereby follow my passion. I would definitely recommend Life and Art Academy to all who wish to study pottery and arts.

On random insta browsing, my eyes couldnt miss Life and Art Academys page. It exactly had all that I searched for - pottery classes. I came to the studio and was happy about how the course was equipped with imense knowledge of pottery and ceramic.I signed up for a professional course in pottery.I had always fantasized creating clay projects and honestly wheel pottery was a dream for me. Sooner I realised there was more to it.I definitely would say I cherished every day going to the class learning new techniques. It was true that wheel was my fantasy, but now I have learnt more than what I signed up for.On wheel - making of different shapes and sizes of vases, cylinders, bowls, plates and kettle set(my personal favourite)In Handpottery - Pinching, coils, slabs, functional pieces, installation, sculpture and muralFinally the cherry on the cake - the course includes Glazing as well, different application methods, different combinations of Glazing it was a total bliss. All of this was possible only with guidence of Mr.Diwaker who is highly learned, friendly and an major inspiration.I definitely got really lucky finding this place, as I believe any work would speak of how u made it and with whom you learnt.

I am an art student in Life & Art Academy for last one year. This a great place to learn different forms of art. The teacher is highly knowledgeable, also very friendly and encouraging. The best part about his teaching is that once he shows you the technique, you have freedom to choose your style and yet have him around to help you out whenever needed. Unlike most of the other art classes, here the main focus is given for live subject study which gives more insight to the play of light and improves your observation skills. Starting from pencil he takes you through different mediums like soft pastels, charcoal, watercolor, poster color, acrylic etc

It’s been two years since I joined the fine arts course at Life and Art Academy under the able guidance of Mr. Diwakar. The course starts with Pencil Study, Pastels and progresses towards Watercolors, Poster, Acrylic and Oil. All the practice sessions will be Live Study which helps the students to increase their observation skills and understand light study. It is one of the best academies in Chennai if you are passionate about art and want to learn and move towards a professional level. Life and Art has made me rediscover my passion towards Art and reinvent myself. I would definitely recommend it to art enthusiasts of all levels.

To my knowledge the only place in the City that offers a consolidated syllabus in fine arts, Pottery and Sculpting for young aspirants, school students, working professionals and anyone with a curious learning mind and time in hand. I have seen the place grow over the last 4 years creating a small but a vibrant community of artists from all walks - conducting frequent workshops, annual in house exhibitions and investing in cutting edge tools to develop the craft to enable and assist the students. Best wishes for making what is considered as niche area of art more accessible and open to all.

My 8-year old nephew and I signed up for the most wonderful artistic experience at Life & Art Academy. Skilled teachers who are patient and knowledgeable guided us through hand-building and pottery sessions. My young nephew developed focus while working with clay, and I have found pottery to have a very calming influence on me. Life & Art Academy is well-equipped with infrastructure and teachers who can light the creative spark in anyone who walks through the door. Highly recommend this Academy!

I completed a professional course on pottery and ceramics. Thanks to life and art academy...Its been a wonderful journey this 6 months .It always felt like being in the right place..Meeting up Mr.Dewakar for the first time brought me a huge confidence that pottery could be my career option.Ms.Ramya was a mentor for a period of one month and guided me throughout the basics.Initially centering was the hardest struggle i went through...and found that hand building was my kind of thing...Mr.Dewakar and Mr.Murali were a constant support and their shrewdness made me complete my course with boom.Ill definitely miss this second home of mine...And highly recommend Life and arts academy for pottery and ceramics as its got all the exorbitant requirements.

I definitely dont recommend pottery class at this time, the teacher resigned few months ago and there is almost zero followup from academy director. He has poor time management skills as a start and more he is busy all the time with other classes or projects. If there is no teacher, dont come!!Youre wasting your time and money hoping for five minutes guidance. Even when I asked him when the new teacher will come, he stated that he can manage, thats ridiculous and disrespectful to students who are serious in learning pottery and even planning career in the field. After one year in the Academy, Im happily not signing for next level, doesnt worth it.Edit after Academy response:You know I dont live in Chennai so my attendance is related to me flying to Chennai and six months is exaggerated period. Im far but always engaged to learn regardless the distance. You should be even proud of student who comes from far distance and with difficult timings to attend class.Plus with almost one year pottery class I never had issues. But you taking over teaching class that was a challenge. As a reminder, I lately did two classes, one you didnt even spare five minutes for me in two hours class!!! Because you were too busy somewhere else. The class after you gave me 5 minutes only!! Its pathetic that you dont even acknowledge your mistakes.Keep the last lesson I paid in advance and the certificate for you, I dont respect you Mr.Money oriented! I only feel sorry for students who trusted you and engaged their career plans with someone like you. And I still discourage anyone who wants to join your school to sign in, unless a pottery teacher is hired properly. Saving teacher salary at the risk of students future is pathetic!I did this course for the love of this art and definitely not needing any certificate to be added to my degrees, or counting my money closely... so youre intimidating the wrong person by ignoring me in class.

I have completed one-year professional course in pottery and basic level course in art and painting here in life and art. I am very glad that I found this place to learn art and pottery and follow my passion. This is a great place to turn your creative ideas into a reality. The faculties here are very knowledgeable, patient, encouraging and super friendly. Mr. Diwakar, Dean of life and art and main teacher of both pottery and painting class is a great teacher, very encouraging and makes sure that each student is getting enough attention and guidance. The course is well structured where we will start to learn from basics of clay, wheel throwing, hand building, sculpting, various surface decorating techniques including glazing. Timing of the classes are flexible allowing you to learn at your own pace. The studio is well equipped with all the required stuffs you need. Diwakar sir walks us through all the processes that one needs to know to become a good artist (potter). I found it fascinating when the glazing classes started. It was amazing experience to see my own creations turn into a beautiful piece of art after applications of glaze and glaze firing. The interesting thing about art and painting class is that youwill get to learn and experience the live portrait as well as live subjectstudy. In the course, the basics, different techniques of pencil study weretaught and then gradually moved to other mediums like soft pastels, watercolour. Diwakar sir took care of every student by not just teaching but also bygiving timely feedback and improvisation areas on a regular basis. This helpedto visualize and observe a subject in more detail, which in turn improved mysketching and painting skills.Thank you so much sir for your guidance and support.I learned a lot during this one year course. Loved learning, creatingand enjoying the good vibes while interacting with some very amazing peoplehere.I would highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to takepottery as their profession and those who wants to learn a new activity andhave fun.

..two months ago I decided to try my hand at pottery. I have always admired ceramics and imagine myself crafting beautiful gifts for family and friends one day. While scouting for a school to learn Pottery, I was fortunate to discover one quite close to my residence – Life and Art Academy. Given my age and self doubts, with much trepidation, I enrolled myself for the16 days weekend class program . I did not want to have a rushed short term workshop. On day 1, I realized that it was a mixed age group of students but none of them seemed to be in their fifties! Luckily for me, with the course registration completed there was no turning back now ! I was taught wedging and then given a wheel . ‘Centering is the first step’ I was told. I watched as my teacher demonstrated the basic steps - completely fascinated by the grace of the art. Little did I know how this first step would be one of the most difficult hurdles to cross. For days together I struggled with the disobedient clay before I realized that ‘focus’ and ‘feel’ were the watchwords. I was not giving up, I told myself as well as to my teacher. Within the next 5 classes or so I was pleasantly surprised to be told that my ‘centering’ was almost perfect and that I was now ready for the next step. While I think my determination to learn helps, I give full credit to my teacher- Dewakar Sir, as we call him -who constantly encourages me, patiently corrects me and allows me to work at my own pace. A ‘well done’ from my teacher is enough to egg me on and work harder. Patience and practice is what I swear by.“Learn as if you will live forever” - more than ever before I have understood the meaning of this now. In that private time that you are engaged with the clay, pottery teaches several life lessons apart from having physical benefits especially for age related conditions like arthritis. Age should not be a deterrent. On the contrary. The patience that age brings can only work to our advantage. Age is only a number!Kaveri Padmanabhan, 57 yearsPersuing Professional Pottery course at Life&Art Academy
