Lord Kaaraneeswarar and his consort Goddess Sornambikai are both beautiful, majestic and graceful. This is considered to be a Navagraha Parihara Sthalam (for Budhan) of Chennai. This place is called as Kaaraneechuram. There is a sannidhi inside this temple for Lord Soundareswarar with his consort Goddess Thripurasundari.Legend says that Sivachaitanya Muni, Aathonda Chakravarthy and Gurulinga Swamy attained Mukthi by worshipping Lord Shiva here. Both Temple & Temple pond are big and well maintained.Must visit temple.

Beautiful temple in Chennai like the temples in Kumbakonam. I like to go to this temple frequently since no heavy crowd and always you can hear the mangala isai in morning time. Also temple structure is beautiful and gives peace when I spend sometime there..

Heritage structure which has pandya fish insignias is several roofs inside the main temple, most of the possible inscriptions and history has been defaced in the name of renovation with marble . It looks neat for the religious folks but we have deleted a lot of history which we can be proud of. Hopefully the remaining structures will be preserved by our future citizens.

Shri karaneshwarar Temple is very close the Saidapet railway station .This temple has a 7-storied Gopuram with two prakarams(closed precincts of a temple). This temple has a beautiful tank. The temple is heavily crowded on Pradhosham days.Parking is in adjacent roads and there is no dedicated car parking at the temple. There are many shops near the temple for buying offerings to the God. The temple is open from 5.45 AM to 11 AM and again 4 PM to 9 PM.

Here is a shrine for another Shiv Linga - this Linga idol is bigger than the main deity Karaneeswarar. The name of the deity is Vedagiriswarar. He is found along with his consort Tripura Sundari. There is a separate shrine for Shaneeswarar and another for Anjaneya. Navagraha idols are also found here. There is a shrine for Veerabhadra and Nandi idol is found opposite to Veerabhadra, which is generally not the case in other temples.
