Great for a romantic getaway. This place preserved an authentic vintage early 20th century look. Suites are spacious and cozy. Wouldn’t stay there for an extended stay as it just too grandiose and doesn’t feel homey but perfect for short romantic stays. I imagine weddings can be great there as well.

Great location but nothing else. The room was dirty, bed was dirty, the didn’t even change it after someone else. Toilet was with hairs, floor and carpet as well. On the breakfast they bring nuts, but they knew we have allergies. When we asked for refund they refused. They offered us 7000 points for stay, after we asked how mush does it cost to stay here with points, they just said that 7000 points to stay in the Moscow city hotel. They lied about it, because we wanted points to stay here. Or they offered us 50% refund. We took it. BAD customer service, very bad. And this is in the center of Moscow !

The National Hotel makes the best use of its classic location across the street from the Kremlin, Red Square, and St Basils cathedral, all of which I could see from the window in my room. The hotels staff make you feel at home yet at the same time you are staying in a place that is living history. I was surprised how quiet the room was even in the center of the city. It used to be a great place when I first came to Moscow about 10 years ago. Still has the charm of lost times. But the age clearly shows - a rude staff member banging on your door, storming in and locking your minibar because you told at reception that you dont plan to block money on your credit card for using the minibar. The view from the breakfast room is still great, but the food is mediocre. the service still has some soviet touch. The people in your hotel are what makes it fabulous. The young women at the reception desk could not have been better. The men opening the door fabulous. The women at the concierge desk work amazing. It is true that some of the amenities and feeling of the hotel are not slick modern thats part of the charm. The hotel was very clean. I might suggest that you remove the very old faded telephones from the rooms and the bathroom and put something new and fresh. The old phones are a distractor. This is a minor recommendation. One other suggestion that I would strongly make is to modernize and really make your bar area better. This has an older feeling and it is not enticing to go to have a cocktail. Make this modern and make it very Russian.... That is why we are going there… Do something special. We ate breakfast once and it was fabulous.I stayed in this hotel in 2002 with my oldest son when he was 16. I wanted to come back with my youngest son and so I returned this year to share the experience of staying in this hotel in Moscow.Oh also the hotel restaurant Dr. Zhivago was amazing. It is so great that is open 24 hours a day. The food was great! Again the people working there really really made it. You have incredible employees. To have so many people who care so much about their job who were working so hard to please and who are very knowledgeable is exceptional. This reflects on excellent management, the right choice of the employees, and give each of those employees credit for how hard they are working in the quality of their work. I am from upstate New York and I would definitely return to your hotel.

Not what we expected from a 5 star hotel although probably because it was building up to New Years Eve and at almost full occupancyBreakfast service was too busy with not enough seating or staff. Sometimes we had to share a table with other guests. Staff were very hard working but because there were not enough of them they had to rush around too much and on occasion forgot things because they were under too much pressure. Not their fault but the fault of management. This does not make for a relaxing breakfast experience. Also different things were overlooked by housekeeping in our room each day.Room was too hot always but bed and pillows comfortable. Plenty of towels and toiletries and bathroom spotlessly clean.Great location and service at reception for both check in and out.

The National is a landmark: if you want to feel the soul of Moscow this is the place to be. Its overlooked Red Square since the days of the Tsars, and while its had its ups and downs in the last century, it has always been in a class of its own. You cant beat the location: walk out the front door and you are in front of Red Square and the Kremlin. A few paces away are the main street, Tverskaya Ulitsa, the Bolshoi, GUM, the Conservatory, and more. There are several Metro lines and buses offering easy access to the entire city. The staff is well-trained, courteous professional. The fitness center is small but has everything you need for a workout; there is a sauna and a hot tub and swimming pool on the top floor offering a view over the city rooftops. There are more modern hotels to be had, but nothing can beat the Russian soul of The National.

This is a 4 star hotel with weak attempts to glamorize the hotel in order to claim that it is a luxury hotel, but is way below what a luxury hotel should be. It is dated, average service quality, below average breakfast, and does not deliver a chic nor luxury feel at all. Its claim to fame is its history and location but that is about it. It is a reasonable hotel to stay for its convenience to sights and transportation, but otherwise this is really an average 4 star hotel. Having a quality bed, some quality accessories and serving Champagne at breakfast does not cover up its major flaws.

This is one of the hotels from the Soviet times in Moscow, that was only for foreigners, and when you mentioned you stay there, locals say wow. Wonderful location - but service is just awful, and consistently bad across many staff. As Platinum Member I called in advance stating I would arrive late, and could they ensure they selected a nice BRIGHT room and not on the 6th floor with smaller windows. When I arrived at 11pm they said that they had no good rooms left, and gave me a dark inside room on 6th floor. Next morning the concierge could not be found for 20 minutes, they could not change a RUB 1000 note for me without me asking for the manager! The change kiosk was not open when it was meant to be, the queues at reception were awful and could not care less about problems. The famed breakfast at US$43 was appalling - cold eggs, pain au chocolat and croissant were bone dry. The only good thing about breakfast was the view from the room, but the next day they moved it as a function was going on. This was the worst rip off breakfast ever - so little choice for the money. A disgrace.Next day waited ages again at reception whilst one of the two people on duty was on phone for 10 minutes.Every time I was at reception I heard someone complaining about their bill. Was moved to much better room next day - but this hotel is living on past glory, has a service quality of a 1 star hotel. I have stayed here a few times. Just returned from my most recent visit and this is certainly a great place. Top of the line. But almost too grand and nice. Not a bad thing, but dont come here expecting a modern hip place. This is like staying in a palace. Very friendly and welcoming, particularly at the front desk. Location cant be beat. You can walk to all the major tourist locations and museums and are steps from the Kremlin and Red Square. Beds are incredibly comfortable and towels are plentiful (take note Sheratons!) and huge. Breakfast buffet is very good, including the ability for custom-ordered eggs. The bad? Its old and looking it--needs a refreeshing. No SPG status recognition or benefits: no points offered, no upgrades, etc. I dont think they are that invested in their SPG participation. Internet cuts out a lot for just a few moments at a time although when its running its quite acceptable. Like everywhere in Russia, the hotel and the room are too hot, despite my having had the window open for the last week--in February! Finally--and this is admittedly minor--they need to change out the Walmart (not even Target) quality plastic shower hooks and nylon curtain. Id return (and am returning) for the location and staff but know that its a bit worn at the edges and dont expect them to care about SPG.

Your staff also found some very important medicine that I had left in my room fridge, and brought it to me after check-out. Amazing service and amazing hotel. You should be VERY proud.

One of the best locations in Moscow - right across the (busy) road from Red Square/Kreml. Despite the hotel being on a busy intersection, it was quiet in the room except for some low-frequency vibrations every now and then (probably coming from the metro trains passing the station underneath the hotel). Room not big, but not cramped either. Excellent king bed.Free Internet (slow, but working), the gym is adequate, but rather limited and not very modern. Did not try breakfast.Polite, helpful staff.

Got to spend 3 nights at Hotel National during a stop-over in Moscow. This is a great, old hotel with lots of history and character. The location is unbeatable as I was a 5 minute walk from Red Square and the Kremlin entrance. The beds were some of the best Ive ever had and the breakfast was outstanding. The only issue I had was keeping the room cool enough, but closing the full shades and curtains mostly fixed this.

As a lot of us know, theres a fine line between Old World Charm and being a hotel in desperate need of a face lift. My colleagues and I have been staying at the National the past few years on and off and have all remarked at how it hasnt really changed and is actually getting quite worn in the common areas as well as the rooms. It is extremely difficult to sleep at the hotel right now with heavy construction projects running through next year on both roads that the property sits on. The staff was very hot/cold in terms of service and seems to cater more towards the tourists coming through than those staying there on business. If you are debating between this property and other SPG Category 5s, I would recommend trying one of the other properties in the city.

I can simply say, that Hotel National Moscow is one of the best hotel that I ever stayed in. In general, the staff are so friendly and helpful, especially at the concierge; they really help and always try their best regardless of any request. The breakfast is excellent and the view is right on the Kremlin, can’t ask for more. The rooms are superb and comfortable. The location is excellent if you want access to shopping mall and sightseeing. I really enjoyed my stay at the Hotel National Moscow.

Loved this hotel! So comfortable and beautiful. My room was a double and was quite spacious, the bed comfy. Everything was clean and the staff extremely friendly and professional. Got my winter boots shined every night (complimentary service). The location is as good as it gets. The breakfast is included in the price of room and is outstanding - and the view of the Kremlin is magical. The gym, pool and sauna are very nice. Service is great. Beluga restaurant is exquisite. Loved everything about this place. And the prices here are very reasonable (considering the prime location and prices of hotels nearby). My only complaint: they dont recycle at all. With complimentary bottled water for guests there is a lot of waste - so many plastic bottles being thrown away each day. This hotel could do the right thing and be a leader in recycling!
