I have eaten at this place nearly weekly, mostly by takeout these days, and the food has always been delicious! We get something new each time and it is always great. We eat out quite a bit, love international cuisines, and have tried many - this place is undoubtedly one of the local gems. HIGHLY recommend!!

Authentic south Indian food cravings? Yes, this is the place to come! They have special menus everyday besides the normal menu. The food is always yummy and made with professionalism. Easily a good place to have a family meal whenever in Calgary south 👍

The sad part is the next day I looked into their website that they have a free drink(uploaded picture for the same)for take out if an order is more than $30, but the lady didn’t tell us after asking if there is any discount for takeout. She just said no. I just want to ask why have you mentioned the offer then??

I am giving 1 star only because of the food as it was good but the service was so poor I cant imagine one can be treated like this. This was my first experience at Masala Bhavan and worst experience ever. We went to Masala Bhavan on Oct 1st. We started by ordering idli and vada combo the food came on time no plates or spoon were provided. It took around 6 to 7 mins for us to find someone that can help us. Till that time the food was cold still we ignored and carried on. Then the masala dosa came. It was good. We decided to order briyani but same story repeated this time again no plates were provided I guess it is the standard at Masala Bhavan that one should eat directly from the bowl. We waited for another couple of mins no one came to help us so I directly went to the cash counter and asked for plates. At this time our appetite for eating at Masala Bhavan was gone we decided to get it packed. Thank you for spoiling our evening.
This place is a regular of mine and I believe their food is one of the best Indian places in town.Delicious items, reasonably priced, good service. During Covid I get take out and they are pretty accurate with their timing.I dont understand why their rating is pretty low, they are an excellent restaurant. I look forward to eating here all the time.

Pretty good takeout. Got the dosa, chickpea soups for cauliflower. It was about $32 with a takeout discount. Price is fair for the food, though portions could be bigger for the price. Overall the taste is good too. I would recommend you try this at least once.

Always love the great food at an affordable price. The service is always amazing, and especially during COVID they have been very good with their protocols. The gluten free options are absolutely amazing and the menu is very clear with the allergy labels right on the menu. I highly recommend the Dosa or butter chicken with coconut rice . The portion sizes are fantastic for the price

When.I reach there .quickly I go for eating their dise .i was very enjoy their service.their staff was also good .and respect all costumer..really i like it very match.
We visited on 29 Aug in the afternoon.We had the idly and the dosa, and they were amazing. The dosa is quite big in size. We were happy and content with our stomachs full post our visit. The service was very prompt and courteous.

5 star for food. One of the best South Indian cuisine in Calgary. My husband and I are from Mississauga and randomly chose to go to this place during our visit. I’m so glad we did. The Rasam wada was soo authentic and delicious. The chutney and sambhar is also delicious. Giving 4 star only as the service is little slow and seemed short staff for the very busy place. Even then I would visit again for the food.

Usually wont review but this time I have too.We visited on September the 4th there was only onee server for the whole restaurant who is taking 2-3 tables simultaneously.We wait almost 30-45 min for the food and the quality was not good as well.All the dishes are the same flavor tomatoy and tangy.Not recommend unless you want to try unique Indian food.

It is not all about food. It is also about how you serve food and how much effort you put in training your employees to manage peak hours and teaching them good manners.I had a bad or probably the worst experience at this restaurant on 27 August 2021. We were three ladies. Since it was a Friday evening, like any other restaurant, masala bhavan was also busy. And shortage of staffs was also an issue.Even though I understand the situation, I was devastated and shocked by the misogynistic and biased service by the staffs. While the other tables (with at least one male), came hours after us, were served promptly and perfectly, we had to starve for 2 hours to get food. Totally, we waited 15 mts to get the menu, another 30 mts to take order, and then nearly 2 hrs to get all the items dumped onto our table, without spoons, forks or plates. Finally, they finished off with coffees without sugar packets and spoons. The staffs were not even ready to look at our table. The group of women was their last priority. And we were supposed to eat soggy and cold food, whenever they serve, whenever they are free and after completing their more important job. First come first served can be the story in any other place, but not for Masala Bhavan.Of course, I am frustrated, and I did not like the cold soggy rava dosa. However, I will never ever forget this mistreatment! And that will be my first reason for not visiting Masala Bhavan!
The Beef Vindaloo had the perfect amount of heat and the meat was so tender. Generous portions. I paired it with Coconut Rice. Yummy!

Food is amazing but front of house needs a ton of improvement. Food takes too long to come out and servers have to be asked twice for basics like cutlery, water etc. Doesnt help that they are seemingly more focused on the delivery couriers than dine in.
Highly recommended restaurant in Calgary.. Authentic South Indian delicacies.. I had one of the best Rasam there.. Dosa were too good.. Idli and Menduvada were too soft and well-cooked.. I would definitely go there again when I will be visiting Calgary next time..

Definitely recommended, especially if you are looking for some great South Indian food.We went for Mysuru Bhonda, Dal Fry, Poori, Mysuru Masala Dosai, Vegetable Kothu Parotta, and a Veg Combo (Chana Masala, Palak Paneer, Naan, Onion Bhajji, Rice and Chutney. Everything was great. Vegetable Kothu Parotta could have had a bit of acidity (a little lemon) as it was a bit high on spice - and dry ones. But otherwise, it was great. In the end, we also ordered a filter coffee which was great.The staff was good. No complaints there. They have seating options of booth or a table. We went on a weekday afternoon, so the restaurant was quite empty.The restaurant is in a plaza that has plenty of parking but you just need to make sure you register the car at one of the parking meters to get two-hour free parking. The meter is to the right of the restaurant.Overall, a definite thumbs up.

Honestly, this is the best Indian food in Calgary at an affordable price! It’s become my go to place and it’s such a great local spot if you want to explore Indian food. Our server Noor, was so kind and checked up on us regularly. AMAZING

We were very excited to find a restaurant with so many gluten free options for our son. We ordered for pick up. We ordered at 4:30pm and were told to be there for 5:30pm. The food was not ready. My husband sat there until 6pm waiting for our food. About 10 minutes before they called our order my husband saw our bag of food get put in the window where orders go. Our food sat there for 10 minutes which is ridiculous considering they were already past the time they said. Once the food came home, my husband let me know our son could not eat the gluten free bread as he watched them cook it on the same grill as all of the other breads making it completely contaminated. We ordered several dishes and there was not one that we actually enjoyed. The coconut rice was so dry I threw it away. The lamb kabobs were so old and dry you could barely chew them. 4 of the dishes were satisfactory. I am nervous we fed this food to our son and I am hoping it does not make him ill. We definitely will not be going back. It was almost 80.00 wasted.

Tried some take out yesterday to try this restaurant out finally and it was absolutely delicious! Both dishes were full of favor with just the perfect amount of heat for me. I would recommend and I will definitely be a new regular now. Also they added a little dessert to try with my order which was a very sweet gesture. Thank you.😊 The whole staff were so warm and welcoming here.
We went there after recommended by our fiend and after he created too much hype about this place. I would have given 4 stars but service was toooo slow. Regarding food we ordered Chicken Dosa, Idle and Vada combo, chicken Vepudu, Gobi Manchurian, chicken Kuthu Parantha and Filter Coffee. Best out these was Kuthu parantha both in terms of taste and quantity. Chicken Vepudu was also good but was too spicy. Gobi Manchurian was cold and not crispy at all (we complained about this and the girl said it’s too busy today sorry will take care next time). But the main let down was the chicken dosa. The stuffing inside was so smelly and stale that we had to leave it like that. Overall experience was good other than chicken dosa. But recommended dishes are chicken kuthu parantha and Chicken Vepudu (if you can handle spicy food)
Tasty curries & meat was fall-apart tender. Pakodas has some nice heat. T loved the cilantro sauce. Overall tasty, but expensive for portion sizes on this takeout order (4/5).
If this review was based on taste I wouldve given 5 stars but for $50.00 I basically got 3 containers full of sauce. Not impressed with the portion size at all. I felt ripped.
Came here during Covid and this place was clean and had good sanitizing protocol.The food was amazing!! My buddy and I shared an order of their chicken samosa, beef vindallo, and chicken biryani which were all great! The beef vindallo had the perfect amount of heat!!! We also ordered naan which was made to order at the front where you are able to see it being made!The place is small and in a weird location but worth checking out!!!
