Another one of the most famous places to visit in Bhopal, the brick-red edifice of Sadar Manzil used to serve as the Hall of Public Audience in the ancient era. Housed in the astounding monument of Shaukat Mahal, the building is well-famed for its extraordinary blend of architectural styles and historic beauty. The terrace was said to be accessible only by the then royal families, as such was the grandeur of the place. A colossal fountain graces the main courtyard of the building, besides fine carvings that adorn its interiors. The building is a must-see on your Bhopal tour, come whatever may.Timings: The site is open 24 hours for visitors.

Sadar Manzil located in the old city area of Bhopal was a hall that was used by the erstwhile Nawabs of Bhopal for their interactions with the Public. Presently the building has fallen into disuse and parts of it are being used as Govt offices. One corridor in the building still has some beautiful intricate art works on the ceiling.

Located at the heart of the walled city, Sadar Manzil is a royal building that used to be the hall of public audience for the rulers of Bhopal. The monument is set amidst picturesque and well-laid out gardens and reflects Oriental traces of architecture. Legend has it that the nawabs of the city would meet with the masses here, and address them on important occasions. After Independence, the lovely building was abandoned and fell into ruin for some time before being restored. However, the charm of the Sadar Manzil has withstood the test of time, and even today one can see intricate carvings in the ceilings and archways that hint at its former grandeur and opulence. It’s a must-visit for lovers of history, and has some great spots for photography as well. Sadar Manzil lies in close proximity to the beautiful Shaukat Mahal.

Sadar manzil was built for Shahjahan Begaum by her son in law as Darbar-e-aam , but never used as a darbar (court). It is now the office of Municipal Corporation and currently the restoration is being done by the Smart city Bhopal. Indo-european architectural style was used to built Sadar manzil. It is near the Shaukat mahal. It is a architectural beauty of Bhopal from the nawab era. One can see it from the outside and after the restoration it will be allowed to see it from the inside.

Among the crowd of Islamic architecture in Bhopal, Sardar Manzil occupies a place of eminence. The red-brick structure is a hybrid of the western and Asian style of architecture designed by a descendant of the Bourbon Dynasty of France. The history of Sardar Manzil dates back to the era Nawabs rulers whose courtroom was this picturesque monument. The lush green gardens with exotic flora, intricately carved arches and the oriental style of architecture give the space a grand appearance.Sardar Manzil attracts ample tourists and locals who wish to view the aesthetic charm of the place. A wooden door bounds the entrance that opens to a large courtyard adorned by a fountain. Amazing paintings adorn the ceilings although thick cobwebs cover them. The large podium overlooking the garden was once the seat of the ruler and the rectangular open space houses a stage with rooms on either side. The headquarters of the Municipal Corporation is the present inhabitant of Sardar Manzil. Although the renovations of this royal monument are taking place, one can see its grandeur from outside.

Shoukat Mahal and Sadar Manzil These two royal buildings are situated at the entrance to the Chowk area in the heart of the walled city. Shaukat Mahal is a 19th century palace which was designed by a Frenchman, said to be a descendent the Bourbon kings. It combines Indo-Saracenic and Rococo architectural styles. Sadar Manzil or the Hall of Public Audience of the former rulers of Bhopal, is located nearby, and now houses government offices.

One can not pass through old Bhopal without noticing the grand building of Sadar Manzil. It was in fact a building which was used mostly as diwan-e-aam (meeting place for large audience) by rulers or say, begums of Bhopal. Bhopal was ruled by 4 begums (queens) in a row, which is historic in itself.Sadar Manzil is still being used, now with a governance purpose of the city. It houses the office of Nagar Nigam (Municipal Corporation) from where civic services are provided in the city. But currently, the building is under renovation and office of municipal corporation has been shifted somewhere else for the purpose. It may take a year to completely renovate it. But one can see its grandeur and beauty from outside.
