Dharmraj or Yamraj Temple also known as A Dharmeshwar Mahadev in Chourasi Temple Complex Bharmour. One room inside this temple is dedicated to Chitragupta, who is considered the secretary of Yamraj . According to the Vishnu Purana, Yama is the son of sun-god Surya[4] and Sandhya, the daughter of Vishvakarma. Yama is the brother of Sraddhadeva Manu and of his older sister Yami, which Horace Hayman Wilson indicates to mean the Yamuna.[5] According to the Vedas, Yama is said to have been the first mortal who died. By virtue of precedence, he became the ruler of the departed,[6] and is called Lord of the Pitrs.[7]Mentioned in the Pāli Canon of Theravada Buddhism, Yama subsequently entered Buddhist mythology in East Asia, Southeast Asia and Sri Lanka as a Dharmapala under various transliterations. He is otherwise also called as Dharmaraja.
Dharamraj or Yamraj temple also known as Dharmeshwar Mahadev in 84 temple complex, Bharmour is considered as the only temple of lord Dharamraj or lord Yamraj in the world. In Hindu mythology Dharamraj decides the fate of souls whether they should go to heaven or hell. There is also seat of Chitragupta in front of the temple and one empty room which is considered room of Chitragupta. Chitragupta keeps complete record of actions of human beings and help Dharamraj in deciding who goes to heaven and who to hell. of Dharamraj, There are temples of Lord Chitragupta at few other places in India but record of temple of Lord Dharamraj has not been found at any other place in the world.Temple of Yamraj, known as Dharmeshvar mahadev was built on the northern corner of Chaurasi by Maru Varman. It is now enshrined in a temple made of stone and wood with pendent roof of slate covering. It is believed to be the court of Dharamraj and is locally called ‘dhai-podi’, which means two and half steps. These steps now may be located below the temple. It is also designated asdyodhi (portico) by gaddis. There is big cave below the temple (not open) and It is the belief of locals that soul of every human being travels through that cave after the fate of the soul is decided by lord Dharamraj. It is believed that every departed soul stands here to seek final permission of Dharamraj to proceed ahead. There are many stories told by the old priests of these temples which are told to them by their forefathers. When a Raja of Chamba was seen standing in front of the temple of Dharmeshavar mahadev and performing paradakshana (ambulatory round) around Chaurasi and proceeding to Kailash on his horse back, this was taken to be indication of the king’s demise in his palace at Chamba town.

Often people hear about Dharmaraja. But, Dharmaraj is sitting in Bharmour. It is believed that there is a court here and there is complete account of the deeds of living souls. Yes, it is said that this temple of Dharma Raj established in Bharmour region has the distinction of being the only one in the world.Devotees from every corner of the country visit this holy temple to participate in the Manimahesh Yatra. Many Siddha men have also claimed that they themselves have heard the questions and answers in Dharmarajs office. However, no direct evidence exists for this.The seat of Chitragupta is built right in front of this temple built in the Chaurasi complex. While stairs and a secret machine are installed before the temple. It is said that with this secret machine, Dharmaraj accounts for everyones life. Also, there are two and a half staircases next to the temple which are also seen as the doors of heaven.
