Best chips + beers

I took 2 guests for drinks and some snack food tonight. I’m usually very happy with the food however the Buffalo chicken wings we had tonight were terrible. They looked to be reheated and they were very tough. No sign of any blue cheese either. At $24 they were way over priced.We ate at the bar around 6 pm on Friday 31 July. Really appreciate you getting back to me regarding my review. Cheers Barry

We love hosting our regular Drag Bingo nights here. The team are fantastic and welcoming of our rainbow community. Cocktails on point, and the food is awesome. Wed recommend hosting your community event here.

Nice place to have a few drinks whilst watchn the rugby. Meals are also good here.

If you want food that sounds yum on the menu but isnt , then take your family here.The menu had Salt & Pepper Squid salad & fries for $20 and instead we got bland squid rings ! The menu is misleading. Also the blonde haired waitress tonight who took our order and cleared the tables was extremely rude. She reached in front of my Dads face to clear some plates while we were talking and didnt even excuse herself ? Please talk to your staff about customer service . The food was average and they had no organized food system so it was coming out and they were just looking around to see if anyone put there hand up. Wont be recommending them to anyone after tonights service.

We visited for Drag Bingo. What a night! Good variety of drinks and reasonable prices. Its nice to look out over the racecourse while having a meal.

Nice cafe tucked away at Alexander racecourse they do breakfast/ morning food all food in cabnets are well presented well done chef. Well worth the visit prices very reasonable. Place youd like to go to again.

Always great food and friendly staff at The Alex! Ive been coming here on and off for ages. Prices are fair. Easy parking too, at least it is when not a race day.

Except for convieniant car park lots,It is a normal cafe. The Chinese restaurant next to the cafe is high level ofquality food and customer service.

Vibrant racecourse atmosphere offering a vantage view of any live proceedings and backfilled by large screen TVs inside the cafe. A great place to relax with a cuppa and some hot fries or cabinet snacks. Theres also a bar a few meters away for any tap beers and alcoholic drinks.

This venue simply needs to lift its game - a bit more care would go along way. Also when racing is on sitting in a bar with more than one screen on and the volume turned to very loud is not conducive to eating or drinking or for that matter watching the races which is surely the point of going here.

DRAG BINGO IS A MUST! Also - $20 steak night is a sweet deal with delicious mushroom sauce! You cant go wrong. The staff are so friendly, warm and welcoming. Good vibes.

A nice family atmosphere, with deliciously large servings. My steak dinner was superb and my daughters beef burger was yummy. Good friendly service and affordable. Lots of comfortable areas to sit and dine. Thanks ☺

Nice, clean establishment for a pub quiz. Lots of parking.But the audio system / microphone and music for the pub quiz requires some fixing. Barely audible...

If sports bars are what youre after Alex bar is the place. Was a little amused this gem was in the Alexander race course. Staff were friendly and can highly recommend the chicken wings broccoli and cauliflower and chips yummy!

Since the change of management the food and service has been amazing!

Food was either over cooked or undercooked and half the table waited almost an hour for their meals. Some items were missing or not as per the menu.Would not recommend sadly.

Mainly frequent the Tab there but pretty good place to go race night and for meals, although pretty pricey on the meals. Service too slow, staff OK but not much customer service experience, get the feeling they dont enjoy their job.

Really lovely people and great food plus they went the extra mile to look after the kids in our group.After a kerfuffle next door, it was lovely to quickly be seated and welcomed.All the thumbs up to the team 👍👍👍

Our group of friends always come here on Steak night and the staff are always great and friendly. Brought my family from overseas recently and they enjoyed themselves. Great place to hang out and eat. Booked a table for our Christmas function too and Stephanie has been extremely helpful with this.

Good choice for Supper, good quality food and friendly staff. Its a sportsclub so they have game nights and slot machines which can get loud,but there is a more quiet area where you can sit down to have supper. You order at the counter and take your number to your table. Not suitable for a romantic night out. More like a casual get together with friends for a couple of drinks and nice food.

I asked for reservation 8 people this Sunday to see the biggest UFC fight of the year, they said that it’s not enough people to cast the match. I can’t is that hard just to turn the program on? Terrible service, not recommended

Lovely meal from the cravery. Friendly helpful staff. Gave me menu for Nov- Dec with Christmas Theme. Will be making a booking for an end of year gathering for a committee in Nov. At those reasonable prices and tasty looking options why would you go anywhere else.

My experience with this place was a relatively good one. Evening meals here for a number of days on a couple of occasions. I found the buffet food pretty good and the service not to bad. Priced reasonably well.I had no problems with this place at all.

Great food and atmosphere when the races are taking place

Booked to make sure we were able to eat before the show, we got there early and ordered quickly before it got busy. We waited over 50 min with no communication from staff. Not one staff member checked on us. Now we see other tables getting their food who ordered a while after us. Im no stranger to a busy restaurant as Ive worked and managed restaurants for 15 year. No communication from staff about long waits is not excusable. I do not recommend and the service itself was awful.

For a racing and sporting enthusiast the only place in Auckland to frequent. The staff are convivial, the surroundings are luxurious, the food is fantastic and the beer is cold. And not forgetting that we have the best tab in New Zealand. Rating 11/10 and thats not being parochial

Food was average. Asked for waffles without banana - just waffles, bacon and maple syrup. It came out topped with fruit salad instead (not listed on menu, nor normally served looking at other plates. Recipient is allergic to kiwifruit - Guess what was in the fruit salad!Understandibly, we will not be returning.

The food here has gone down in both quality and quantity over the past 6 months, with very little other than the carvery for a main meal......and that item has also gone up by 25% during the same time. The Pub snacks that remain, take half an hour to get to your table, so the service doesnt make up for the lack of choice either. I would not recommend the Alex if you were going out for a decent meal. The facilities are pleasant and in good condition though.

Alex is always great, we watch all the Super Rugby there and of course the All Blacks games.We will miss the RWC at the Alex, as we will in Japan.

We had dinner here on a Sunday night. It was more crowded than normal which meant that there was quite a wait for food. The food however was totally worth the wait. Best roast Ive had out. The desert was also great and the staff were friendly and apologetic about the delay. Would recommend.
