Sultan-ul-Kaum Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia (May 9, 1718 - October 20, 1783) With the blessings of Guru Gobind Singh, Guru K Lal Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia was born on May 3, 1718 in the village of Ahlu near Lahore. Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia, who grew up in the pampering of Sundari and under the guidance of Nawab Kapoor Singh, the founder of the sikh nation. Sardar Jassa Singh was an expert in Gurbani and Kirtan and rich-skilled in swords and archery. The Sikhs ruled over Delhi and Lahore under his leadership, as the head of the Dal Khalsa. Due to the leadership of this great valor and his service to the Panth, he was promoted to Nawab(Ruler), Bandi chhod (breaker-of-chains) and Sultan-ul-Qaum (Emperor of the Sikh Religion). When the Misls (Free Sikh States) were established, he was appointed chief of the Ahluvalia misl and was later given the responsibility of dealing with the discrimination of the misls, from which the foundation of the Khalsa state was laid. And Katra Ahluwalia was built. Chhota Ghallughara, Vada Ghallughara and Almost all contemporary battles were fought under his leadership. After Ahmad Shah blew up the Golden Temple with gunpowder, he undertook the construction of the present building of Sri Harmandir Sahib on Vaisakh 1821 Bk Sammat (1761 AD). After the conquest of Sirhind, he got his shre Rs. 9 lakhs, which he spread over a Chadar ( Bedsheet) which he called Guru ki Chadar. After it rest of the sardars collected Rs. 5 lakhs and with these Rs. 14 lakhs the present building of Harmandir Sahib was rebuilt which later became known as Swaran Mandir(Golden Temple) after the donation of gold by Maharaja Ranjit Singh . Gold was also served by the Ahluwalia chiefs. The gold plating service on all the domes above the Golden Temple was conducted by Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalias followers. Played by Fateh Singh. In Katak Bikram Sammat 1840 (1783 AD), when Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia came to visit Darbar Sahib on the occasion of Diwali as usual, he died of stomach ache at Amritsar. He was cremated at Gurdwara Baba Atal Rais Parikarma near the mausoleum of Nawab Kapur Singh, where his mausoleum is located. Thus the devoted and struggling life of this great son of the Gurus, Sultan ul Kaum, got completed.
