It was a good place. One can easily spot this restaurant from the road. It is a vegetarian south indian restaurant. We had ordered South Indian thali as it was really a good and affordable deal where you could get to taste almost everything on the menu. Also the thali was unlimited so you could have anything from the thali in unlimited quantity! Overall a nice ambience n good staff.

We had Buffet lunch at Gwalia Vanakkam on weekday which was Priced at ₹430/- but under Dineout GIRF there was 50% off on the same anf it cost us only ₹215/-. Menu has wide varieties of South Indian cuisines and loved taste of each and every item. The staff was very courteous and prompt to serve. Refilling was quick and upon making something hot they were serving on the table. Loved their korma, paysam, varieties of idli, rasam and idiappam.

First of all, they forgot to include one item in the order. That, however, is a genuine human error, and anybody could have made the same mistake. Itd be unfair to give the restaurant a poor rating for that reason.However, theres a much graver issue that repulsed everyone in my family, and thats the actual reason for this 1-star rating.Along with the order, the restaurant gave us a pamphlet for a special item on their menu... Named Brahmin Idli. And that, by no means, is an innocent error that can be overlooked.We are a Brahmin family ourselves, a family that is aware of the oppression people from our community have inflicted on other members of the society over the last several centuries. Its a matter of great shame that many people from the Brahmin community still refuse to acknowledge how they are enjoy an unfair advantage over other members of the society.It is repugnant that a restaurant, in 2020, proudly boasts of a dish called Brahmin Idli in their menu.What the hell is Brahmin Idli anyway? Jain food, I can understand, since its a specific way of cooking that does not involve onions and garlics. Food names like Gujarati thali or Hyderabadi biryani or Bombay vadapav or Kashmiri Pulao make sense, since those dishes are symbolically named after the regions where they originated.But what the hell is Brahmin Idli? Is it Idli that can only be consumed by Brahmins? That surely cant be the case. So, does it mean that the restaurant ensures that the Idlis are cooked by a Brahmin cook, and that no member from another caste has touched the food?If that is the case, the restaurant management need to seriously re-evaluate their policies. Such a restaurant belongs to the past, along with the dinosaurs and the dodos, and not in todays modern world. If the restaurant management named this dish so for caste pride, it would do well to remind them that their pride is for a system responsible for practices such as Sati and untouchability.And that is, by no means, a genuine human error that could have happened from anyone - it is willful ignorance of history and a glib indifference to human values that this stems from.If the restaurant management has a modicum of conscience and a desire to change for the better, they need to reconsider including such items in their menu. Food belongs to the entire human community, food ought to be shared across cultures and communities and regions and should be used as a vehicle to foster deeper human connections. It should not be demeaned by giving it such names.We used to order from Gwalia outlets quite often, but unless the management rectifies this grave error, we wont be ordering from any of the outlets again

Here, you can see there are lot many options in Chutneys and Aachar. Damn all of them tasted so good. 🤤.Till now Dravida was my favorite southindian restaurant but Vanakkam has replaced that place..How can I miss the Ambience part. Gwalia Sweets after its successful tenure in sweets and fast food has ventured into a South Indian cuisine with Vannakam. One of the very few (may be only) food joints that serve South Indian buffet throughout the week.The place is really huge with well thought after ambience. The interiors are really lavish and one can feel that even the minutest of details are taken care of. There seating is bifurcated into 3 parts One for Ala Carte, second one for buffet and third one being grouo dining.Considering the uniqueness we decided to opt for the buffet. The spread consisted of following dishes :Lime juice : Decent. Well for summers. 3/5Pepper Rasam : Really Authentic and balanced in taste. One could feel the freshness. 5/5Rava Idli : This one was really soft and tasty. 4/5Fried Idli : Deep fried Idli pieces topped with special Masala. This one was really crisp and tasty. 4/5Paruppu Wada : A speciality in South India. This one was authentic. 4/5Live Dosa : Tried the Rava Onion and paper plain. Both were cooked to perfection. 5/5Korma with Malabar paratha : The best of the lot. Have not seen many places serving such authentic and fresh Malabar paratha that too in buffet. 5/5Tomato Rice : Yet another speciality. This one was a bit far from authentic taste but still good to go. 3/5Special mention for the Sambhar and variety of chutneys served. The Sambhar tasted really authentic and the variety of chutneya just added to the experience. Considering the pricing of Rs. 349/- the buffet seemed to be a steal deal.

Gwalia vanakkam is a has got good ambience, and the taste is also good. It also has the only unlimited South Indian meal, with its ambience made relative. Location is also good. Lets see how it goes in the long run with upgrading its menu, and taste.

The place is new ( opened about 2 months ago )... The service and the managememt of the restaurany is great and talking about the ambience was brilliant, waiters there wear lungis while serving and there is also buffet available @350 ( I didnt try it). The dosas and chutneys had great taste 😋😋 and we heard that there chaach is also good but we couldnt try one... At the end they would give you a wet tissue and even the sauf offered by them are of two different types ( I didnt like the one with tils in it ).. And also there is projector with Star Sports 😁😁 and I would recommend you all, visit it once as it is newly opened and you will enjoy it ( As gradually the quality and service drops in majority of the Restaurants 😥 )

Food was really horrible. We had steam idly south Indian thali bisibelebath. All items are so bad, we left half of them. Rice is half boiled. Bisibelebath is really third class. Guests who have rated highly must not in their life time have had a real south Indian food. The restaurant should sack chef otherwise the restaurant will get closed. Really bad food. Never try this restaurant

PEOPLE, BE AWARE!I went to this restaurant to celebrate my friends birthday on 16thMarch 2020. After completing our meal, we were asked to give our feedback on a feedback form. She also gave her phone number for future offers and events at the restaurant. But, little did she knew, on that same day, she received a message on her Whats app from one of their employees who happens to be the person who was serving us food. She was able to recognize the person from his Whats app but just wanted to be sure. Later, she did not receive any message so she almost ignored and forget this until after a week, she got a video call from the same person.I mean, we fill the feedback forms considering it as a valuable input by the customers but we surely do not expect anything like that to happen with us. We do not entertain any such act from the people from the restaurant.

Yes, a replica of dinning boat is made at the center hall.Uniqueness of the place is simple and light food. Unlike other south Indian joints, this is a fine dine experience.What was ordered and opinion:1. Masala idli: Fresh, less spicy, perfectly cooked and melted in mouth. Right choice for kids / senior citizens for less spicy food.2. Chutney platter: 6 flavors of authentic tastes. This is complementary with any relevant item. Coconut, peanut, garlic, mint, tomato, tamarind were among the flavors3. Vegetable korma with malabari parota and raita: A must have dish. Generally this dish is available at south Indian restaurants but fail to provide the authentic experience. The one out here is for sure is made by a chef who knows how Veg Kurma is made.4. Pappadam: Bit overprices vs serving portion. However, you can taste assorted padads once it is on your table.5. Thayir wada or Dahi vada in simple words was again unique. Perfect balance of vada and curd along with spices.What can be improved is:1. Increase in portion of chutneys. Too less for 2 people.2. Few authentic claims didnt go well during the order. Eg: They dont have rice papad3. Train / educate their staff to identify need of the customers.Conclusion: With fit-to-pocket prices and definite value for money, locals should try this place for a authentic south Indian experience.

The ambience is really good but they could have catered to a wider variety of dishes. Its just a usual menu of dosas, utappam with jacked up prices. Main problem is the quantity as per price, if they charge 280rs for a dosa they should be giving a good quantity of dosa + filling. But the quantity isnt acceptable by any terms. The sambar, chutney was very good but if the main dish isnt satisfactory then whats the point.Please concentrate more on your core dishes as well as taste if you want to survive in the long run.Kudos and good luck!!
