Amazing experience. Hundreds of years of absolute beautiful architecture.Allow a couple of hours, to be awestruck at the interior, and the vast space. Theres plenty to look at. With wall plaques, memorials, and what I presume are crypts / internal burials of precious archbishops and people of importance. The Minster is a beautiful experience that youd be mad to miss.

Absolutely stunning gothic church. The architecture is simply amazing and York Minster is very prominent in the beautiful city of York. We took a tour and the guide was amazing. Her father was also a volunteer and you could tell how passionate she was about her faith + place of worship. Incredible history and dedication as the Minster has been restored several times. The stained glass is particularly stunning along with the stories they tell. A very inspiring visit and a big thank you to the volunteers who are called to serve.

Definitely a must if you’re visiting York! We quite often have a walk around a cathedral just to appreciate the architecture and scale of them, but I must say it’s usually free - so I was a little shocked to find it was £24 for the both of us to walk around - plus another £5 each to climb the tower, but it was fully booked so we couldn’t. I’ve actually been up before around 30 years ago so not such a big deal.I’d still recommend a visit even though it costs, and I guess at least your money is going to the costs of maintaining such a building.

York minster has lovely architecture, lovely stained glass windows and interesting history. Its a shame its a 1 way system due to social distancing and due to this if you need the toilet before you enter then I would suggest going before, as you have to walk all the way through to almost the exit to get to the toilets and you cannot re-enter as it takes you to the gift shop and exit. So you have to go round to the entrance and have your tickets checked, small introduction etc again. Also I can appreciate some of the entrance fee goes to restoration, supports the volunteers etc but £12 each per adult without a gift aid for an hours look around could be classed as a little excessive.

As is usual in the great European cathedrals, York is the result of the evolution over the centuries of an initial religious temple. To visit York Minster Cathedral, you will have no problem getting there, as it is located in the very centre of this very beautiful medieval city in Great Britain. You will enter the cathedral from the area where the conglomeration of narrow streets of medieval origin is concentrated, and you will enter through the south façade, directly into the transept. The opening hours of the Gothic York Minster are Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 4.30pm as the last entrance; and on Sundays, from 12.30pm to 3.15pm.To visit the cathedral you have to pay a combined ticket which allows you to see the interior of the church and climb the towers.During your visit to York Minster you are free to take photos and film video, and the entrance fee allows you to take part in the guided tours that run continuously every day.

York Minster is a beautiful example of the cathedrals built during the Medieval period.Almost every step reveals another interesting piece of history. There is the Chapel dedicated to the men of the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (KOYLI), and statues of the Kings of England up to Plantagenet time. High up on the wall is the Tarzan shield (bearing the arms of Lord Greystoke). There are memorials to the great and the good; and a couple that commemorate the sad loss of a very young child. The crypt is well worth a visit, as are the choir stalls.Theyve started work on restoring one of the huge stained glass windows, and the project is likely to take over a decade which shows the care and dedication that is required.Unfortunately, the tower was closed because of the need for social distancing, so I couldnt go up, but I am assured that it offers an amazing view of the city and is well worth the effort to climb.A really enjoyable place to visit with something for anyone interested in history.

A wonderful place, well worth the money. Pre-booking is a must (July 2021) otherwise you wont gain entry. A one way system is in place and it works very well. There is a queue to get into the crypt, so if this is something you want to see, be prepared to wait. We waited around 15 minutes, however you can miss this. Unfortunately we wasnt aware that the treasury wasnt open and it is currently closed off. The museum was really very interesting which took up the majority of time we were there. Were not religious, but we love history, this was a perfect place to take in 100s of years of history in and around York.

The entry fee may look experience but it is much worth than that. The church is not just for decorations, but it is so touching the paper folded crane orizuru are the symbol for praying and the caring for the NHS members of the groups. Besides, I am so touched for the common prayer for the homeless people and peace by the minister at the stage. I am not sure for the prayer schedule but I hope this can be kept because it transforms every tourist to the people on pilgrimage. The church building is suitable for everyone, but it is better for children who can respect The toilet located inside is clean. There are some stairs at the front door, I think it is okay for other entry if you contact them. For going down confined area, please be reminded that mask is needed for protection of self and everyone. The tickets are better pre-booked before because the number of people entry is limited. The tickets are valid for another booking if you want to come again. If you want to study the window glass, it is a good benefit for coming more times. There is a beautiful garden open next to the church in summer time. It does not need ticket. Ice cream bus sometimes is parked. It is like the heaven for having ice cream with the family there.

Review №60

What I find interesting about the history of York Minster is that it was once a Norman Cathedral then renovated in a Gothic style of architecture in various stages. The present Minster was started around 1220 and by 1400 the Minster had become a complete Gothic structure, which included new north and south transepts, a reconstructed east end built in a perpendicular gothic style and a new nave which is the widest Gothic nave in England. York Minster has one the largest collections of medieval stained glass windows in Europe and although many people draw attention to the impressive Great East window or the beautiful Rose window in the south transept there are 128 stained glass windows throughout the cathedral overall. Many of which are decorated with intricate artworks each depicting its own story, such as the early 16th century crucifixion window with its vivid blue decorations or the Pilgrimage window which has unusual representations of animals re-enacting human behaviour. I have always found The Chapter House impressive especially the octagonal design and ribbed wooden roof which is exquisitely painted, also the profusion of grotesque gargoyles carved in stone above the seats which are a reminder of past archaic traditions. As York Minster is the second largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe it is impossible to mention the many aspects of this fine building and I feel each individual will experience it from there own unique perspective, which makes York Minster is a fascinating place a visit.

Stunning minster. Too look at everything took just under 90 mins. You have to book online and pick a slot. The volunteers are very knowledgeable. For an extra £5 you can walk up the tower steps. Again you have to book online. There are 275 steps. You need to wear trainers or sturdy shoes as the steps are slippy. Dont do if you are claustaphobic. You are told all this before you start. About halfway you have to walk across a ledge which is narrow but very secure. Once you get to the top you are greeted by a volunteer who checks you are ok. Great cathedral. A lot to see. You can buy a ticket only for the cathedral (I think it was £16) but if you want to go to the top of the tower you need to buy a separate ticket (around £5). BUT be aware that climbing to the top is not for everyone, those are A LOT of stairs! I and my friends are all healthy young people and we had to stop twice to catch out-breath. Unfortunately, I cant tell you how long it took to get to the top, but it felt like forever, if thats of any help :DAnd AND there was an office on the top of the tower - tiny little room on the top of the world - and a lady, which obviously works there, was sitting in it cheerfully (probably making sure that nobody jumps from the top). And when you think about it - this lady needs to take these stairs every single day!!She probably goes to work half an hour earlier just so she can get to the top on time! And she must have legs of steel!I do recommend it though, the view from the top is magnificent! We went around March, it wasnt very busy.
