I absolutely LOVE going here for dinner when Im in the mood for Indian food... No matter what I order there it always comes out amazing and delicious... They make some amazing margarita drinks with flavors from my country that I grew up with which is one of my favorite parts as well. The atmosphere is always welcoming and inviting and the people are like family
Looked up and drove here looking for non vegetarian options. Arrived and waited to be acknowledged at the front. Seemed to be only two people working taking turns at same tables. Many locals , we ordered the lunch special..one vegetarian and one non vegetarian. Some items served family style, Biryani rice, and Naan. Only two half naan to share. We asked for more and up-charge. Also ordered samosa which was nice. The chicken tiki and mattar paneer were ok.. the meals came with chick peas (chole) and you picked main item. Chick peas were half small cup, plain not much spice. Didnt think to take picture, felt rushed. Got in at 145 and the stop lunch at 245. 12.95 and 13.95 lunch, 5.95 somosa, 5 exta one Naan or paratha 41dollars two people plus tip.
Really good food. Cozy atmosphere, and the place was packed. To go orders flying out the door! Spent a little more than Id like to, but the food was definitely worth it. We will be back for sure!
My wife and I enjoyed the first real comfort food Indian meal in the Berkshires at Spice Root. And by comfort food I mean the kind of meal you expect from a family run Tandoor restaurant where they seem to care about whats being made -- with results that my wife likes to call earnest. In other words: sincere, deliberate, and thoughtful. I cant comment on the lunch specials, as we always order family style, but the chicken tikka masala, lamb biryani, and matar paneer are solid, savory, and heart warming dishes. The mango lassi is divine -- not too sweet, and not too tangy -- and the chai is balanced and strong. That said, the prices did seem a bit high for the portions, and some things were a bit skimpy. The small single bowl of basmati rice, for example, wasnt sufficient for even me, let alone for the both of us. And we were a little surprised that the slender mug of chai was so pricy...especially since it wasnt refilled for free as many Indian restaurants will usually do.As for the service, our experience was excellent. I would not hesitate to bring family and friends to this restaurant for a relaxing and enjoyable meal. The only critical encouragement I would offer the owners of Spice Root would be to replace the shredded awning they have over the tables outside, which does little to block sun or rain, and only draws attention to the only thing at this restaurant that seems entirely neglected.
Easily the BEST Indian restaurant Ive ever eaten at. Cheap prices and the food is AMAZING!!!
This is an exceptionally good Indian restaurant! It is definitely my favorite one within a couple hours of the area! The people who work there are really nice and helpful too.
Place was nice but the food was not upto the authentic indian food taste more of Westernised version indian food
Food was delicious. Service was the right level of attentiveness.
Really good food and the best place we found in Williamstown for vegan options.
Always delicious. Impeccable service.
We just had a totally disappointing lunch at SpiceRoot. We thought to just sample various starters ….The onion bhajis were heavy, thick, and greasy. We also ordered the crab cakes - admittedly a risky choice, but the place is well recommended so we gave them a try. Dreadful - - inedible. Tasted a little fishy and faintly of mint extract - as did some of the other ‘mint’ sauces. A weird first - perhaps they were out of fresh mint?We also had the roti cani, and that was the only good dish on the table . . .well, that and the potato patties, which were covered w a sauce made of good things, tamarind, crispy sev and chickpeas, etc.
Dined outside on Spring Street. Always a great meal.
Best indian food for miles. I love their generous lunch boxes :)
Great Indian food. The person who said that it was overpriced and not authentic either dont know what they are talking about or has unreasonable expectations. Tikka? Curry isnt Indian? Of course its Indian American, but if your idea of Indian food isnt this, then go to India for crying out loud. Always one in every group of reviewers. Dissenting makes them feel self important. All you need to do is look at the other reviews.
Great food. Nice staff. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Delicious meal, excellent service! Well worth the trip. The Samosas are SO good, everything was wonderful. We’ll be back again!
Service seemed shakey at first (hard time understanding) but got better the more I stayed. Food is absolutely amazing. Go for the specials if you can.
The best Indian food on these parts. Great friendly staff, consistently delicious food.
Excellent food in a beautiful small town. Service was top notch. Can’t wait to return to Williamstown to try other dishes. Samosas are to die for!!
Always great food, and pleasant staff.
Service is excellent, food is good and they do have a good selection as well. The only thing holding me back is that they do not have a heavily spiced selection for the buffet. Most of the food seemed to be on the tame and mild side. Over all though it was a clean, friendly, enjoyable lunch for a fair price. I will dine again if in the area.
A favorite restaurant in Williamstown. Ive been there several times and food and service are always great.
We had an amazing meal here tonight outside. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. The service was also very fast. We ordered the Samosas for an starter and they were perfection, Crispy outside with that savory Pea & Potato filling. For our meals we all got the Chicken Tiki Masala with rice, mixed veggies and The Honey Sesame NaN Bread. It all went perfect together and the flavors of each dish was outstanding. I still can’t get over how good that NaN bread is!Totally recommend going to this place or ordering take out. We will for sure be back.
Poor service, waited 45 minutes to get my meal. But the food is great!
OK for dinner its slightly expensive.BUT - it was also incredibly delicious food.Im very interested in coming back for the buffet. Otherwise, when Im feeling like I want to splurge a little on a very good Indian meal - I know where I want to go.
Best Indian food in the land!
3.5 Stars. Solid but not living up to the standards of Williams College. Lack of competition breeds complacency.
So many gluten free options! Food is delicious, service is efficient and friendly. Authentic and satisfying!
Bad Hospitality towards our own Indian people.Curries are just made with one same tomato purée. No flexibility at all. No taste whatsoever.A complete no no for vegetarians. And specially they hate serving JAIN food.No go again for sure.
The food is consistently delicious, the staff is always friendly, and they are one of the few establishments that has great vegetarian and vegan offerings. My partner and I have been going here for years and we have never been disappointed!
Outstanding food!I get to eat here only once per year when I am visiting and I so look forward to it.Some of their dishes are my favorite and some are my 2nd favorite. There is no 3rd or beyond. Just a nice atmosphere, outstanding food, great bread.... I can not say enough about how much I love eating here. I already want to go back. The prices here are a lot higher than I am used too, but I live in California where there is a lot of competition for Indian food.I now have it shipped (cross country) so I can enjoy this food.
Food was ok but waiter was rude and when we asked for to go containers they brought our food to the back and packed it for us. The next day we go to eat the leftovers and open the bag... they gave us the smallest containers I have ever seen. We only ate very little food at the restaurant and had a lot of food left that we were looking forward to but only received maybe 1/4 of what we had. I do not recommend this place if you want to bring some of the food home with you. There are better restaurants in the area, go elsewhere. Not worth the money.
Excellent food. Great service.
I eat here often. The food is scrupulous and the people are lovely. My absolute favorite!
Great lunch buffet! They have great vegan options, and its a very popular place, the atmosphere is very lively and friendly. This can make it difficult to get through the buffet, but that is a problem i can live with.
They serve a delicious coconut curry chicken called Roti Canai. Very pretty decor with food food. The owner is very nice.
I love Spice Root. The food is great and the service is spot on. If you want a sampling they have a great lunch buffet. I always enjoy it.
Great Indian food! With the student discount they offer, you get a ton of food for a relatively low price. The service is very good too. I will definitely be going here more often!
Great food!!! Amazing flavours!! The service was fantastic too. Overall, a great experience....highly recommmendable!!!!
Very nice staff. Food was good at the buffet.
This place is a staple of the Williams College food experience. It has good food and prices, but is lacking greatly in healthy vegan options. On a random note, they probably have the best calorie to dollar option of anything in Spring Street thay wont leave you feeling awful. Their take out rice comes in a large dish and could easily make 2 full meals (if you dont mind eating only rice) for just $2.95.
Delectable Indian with a Modern Twist. As an Indian from NYC, bar is high and this quaint place has great service, choice selections of flavors and well presented, fresh and individually unique flavored dishes. Also a surprise Indo-Chinese menu that hit the spot with the Hakka Noodles.
Wonderful Indian cuisine located on a Main Street middle of WILLIAMS College
Located in nice downtown area. Surprised to find good Indian restaurant there. One should definitely try.
Absolutely the BEST Indian food in Western MA. Wonderful service every time we go. The menu includes vegetarian and vegan options and I have to say that I am not a vegan, but find myself ordering many of the dishes because they are so amazing. We used to live closer to the restaurant, but now we find ourselves driving an hour because the food is so excellent!
Spice root in Williamstown Massachusetts is a great friendy environment, the food is excellent a must visit..10 out of 10
My wife and I love this place. We drive over from NY just to go here sometimes. Food is great. Staff is very nice. Menu describes everything very well. Atmosphere is casual but not raucous. We eat here any time were in Williamstown and sometimes its our excuse to go to Williamstown.
Good food, excellent customer service!
GREAT food & service! You must!
Great food and friendly staff. The food is well seasoned and blends together perfectly!
Literally brings you genuine Indian flavor. Carrot pudding and true Indian tea is my favorite.
What a classic, authentic gem of an Indian restaurant in small town Williamstown, right next to some beautiful Jiminy Ski Slopes! Great that we stopped by after a very hard, long day at the slopes and were we pleasantly surprised to discover this place. Perfect ambience, food quality, spice level, non-greasy (yes that was a surprise :) and absolutely delish Indian dishes served by a very attentive staff. The owner from Delhi - Steven - also made it a point to come out from the kitchen and chit chat generally and finally surprised us with an on-the-house gajar halwa.. Not expecting that one but lapped it up :) Thank you Steven, Dhruv and Team Spice Root.. Definitely a must try!
Great Place with very friendly staff! If you ever find yourself in Williamstown, definitely check it out!
Chicken vindaloo was very delicious! Cheese naan was the best naan I’ve had. Great service too.
Pretty expensive and not very flavorful. Tastes like somebody tried making Indian food with the spices they found in a pizza place. However everyone working there was super friendly and I received excellent service. If youre used to the good stuff, youll likely be disappointed.
An amazing cuisine. The staff was amazing.
If you like spicy food then get the vindaloo. If not get the korma. Either way try a lassi or chai.
Love the buffet, delicious and varied, and great service
In most restaurants, when a television is playing I find it distracting and detrimental. In this case, the nearly unceasing wash of music videos was a distraction one could ignore or be entertained by. The decorations are slightly garish as I would hope and the staff was pleasant and professional. The food was some of the best Indian for quite a distance and I surely expect to visit again when in the area for Mass Moca or other local events.
Wonderful food and staff!
This place has some dishes that are sooooo good, I have them shipped to California so that I can enjoy them at home. I could live in this restaurant.
Very solid Indian restaurant with a nice menu and friendly service
Yummy, very nice people. Not a lot of spice unless you ask but theyre happy.to add heat.
Good food, good variety and selection for a gluten free vegan!
Best lunch/dinner spot for vegans in Williamstown
Excellent food and good staff.
One of my favorite restaurants in the area. We are always delighted to see whats on the buffet & have developed our faves from this. The service is always top-notch. The staff is friendly, curtious, professional & efficient. Love the chicken masala, jasmine rice, and the Keer. I go back to the buffet several times for this delightful sweet alone! My family & I go as often as we can, as well as celebrating most all our birthdays at Spice Root.
Love the chicken Tikka masala!
Not good -anthony fantano
Pleasant atmosphere and modernized Indian dishes.
Ford is grateful and Ive only been there a few times but Im remembered every time
One of the best Indian restaurants in the area. The food is exceptionally good and the atmosphere is very friendly. The prices are moderate. We love going there with our family. Our faves are Lamb Korma and Chicken Tikka Masala with garlic naan bread. Their lunch is a steal. They have a great buffet of about 12 dishes and some desserts. Check out their mango Lassi!
Warning - This is not an Indian restaurant. The whole menu is Americanized. Over pricey and the only thing Indian about the dishes was the name. One of the worst Indian food Ive ever tasted. Roti Canai was frozen paratha with a pathetic chicken curry(sweet). Hakka noodles were $16 and were as bad as a 9 year old kids cooking. Id not eat them if I was given $16 to eat it. Parantha was made with a spoiled dough. Chicken lollipop was made out of stale chicken. The quantity was insufficient as well. Masala Tea was worser than the ones we get at Indian Railways platforms. And Mango kulfi was just Mango ice cream with whipped cream on top. Totally disgusted by the food and will never ever go here again even if I am offered free food.
Excellent flavors (veggie platter, mulligatawny, lamb sag wala, malai kofta). attentive service. decent wines.
Delicious. Ordered takeout and it was ready quickly.
These guys might be kidding by charging $12 for lunch buffet which is not even 50% worth as they had mere items served in the buffet. And taste wise, other than tandoori chicken, nothing else is good.
The lamb is delicious!
Not bad at all.
Great authentic masalas
Festive and delicious
Great buffet
Helpful folks ?
Excellent food!
Delicious.
Expensive but tasty.
Good food

Yum.
Very good restaurant! I love the menu and food. The people are very nice. The restaurant is very close to the city center and has an interesting atmosphere. I will return to this restaurant. Many thanks!
Delicious but not cheap. Foot lazy operation.
