If you are someone who loves history or want to learn about American history including the good and the bad. This is your place to go and learn! The inside museum ( take your time) is absolutely wonderful! No pictures inside. The outside is reconstructed to give you a glimpse into early 1600s! Worth the time and money to go and learn. If older folks want to go, there are motor scooters. It helped my in-laws so they could enjoy our time together exploring the past! Wonderful staff and they have good information to share with you. Give yourself half a day to visit. Good stuff at the gift shop!
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this historic site. It is well preserved with lots of interesting things to see and do. Be aware that there is a lot of walking to tour the site. Also, the museum and visitor center close at 5, even though the park itself is open until sundown. Be sure to plan accordingly. I would love to visit this site again.
A great place to learn early US and local history. Many artifacts on display inside. The Jamestown and Indian village sites gives people to get a look at how others lived in the 1600s. The ship display lets you get the feel on how it would be like to live in the long journey from England to the New World. There was a very good demonstration of how the sailors navigated and the tools they used.
Wow! Jamestown settlement was so cool! They had a love Indian trip display of how it might of been back in the 1600s. The boats were so cool! You could tour them and they were so fun to explore. The volunteers there were super helpful and could answer all our questions. They really knew a lot about the Jamestown Settlement and that time period. The actual Jamestown settlement was so cool. They had houses, the governors house, a church, and an armory all just like it would have been back then. It was really amazing! It definitely helped me visualize this part of history more accurately. If you want to learn more about history or just enjoy it, you should definitely visit here. I went with my family and it was so educational and exciting!
This was a really interesting experience. The indoor exhibits were phenomenal, very engaging and educational. The outdoor exhibits were great too, but lunchtime is a difficult time to visit due to employee lunch breaks. We missed out on several things because we came mid-day (2 of 3 boats closed, etc). Even still, it was a great experience. The cafe food was better than expected and affordable too.
A recreation of the Jamestown settlement. To my knowledge, the settlement was created after the Jamestown Fort, when more people arrived from England. There is a recreated Native American Village nearby. Various people are there to tell stories of the settlers and the Native Americans. They also have recreations of the ships that brought the first settlers here to Jamestown. Again, so much history, so little time.
Loved Jamestown Settlement! Took my son and he had a blast! The inside exhibitions we updated since I was last there. Really enjoyed them and even watched a 13 min movie on Bacons Rebellion and it was great. My sons favorite part was the outdoor Native American village and seeing the ships! Had a fantastic conversation with the blacksmith in the settlement too! The reenactors are great all around! Great trip!
Went there today we our grandchildren, is a great experience for the children, the area is beautiful they have knowledge people that will answer to any of your questions. Some go beyond. It can get crowded on the ships whish they had a little bit more organization since some of the visitors do whatever they want to do. Maybe adding sign. Otherwise is really incredible and they were able to re-create the colonial era.
Stayed in Williamsburg and this was one of my favorite places I visited! The history is very interesting and I believe every American would enjoy a trip to where it all began. The building was very clean and featured a Focused exhibit if Native Americans until Mar 22. Outside you can walk up to re-commisioned ships Discovery, Godspeed, and Susan Constant. You can also walk through a small settlement and look inside buildings that show what early living quarters looked like. In another area you can walk through a couple of Native American huts. Throughout the entire park there are people available to answer questions and engage with the public. They all seem very enthusiastic and look like they love what they do. Highly recommend to anybody looking for something to do! My 11 year old sister also had fun!
Jamestown Settlement was amazing and had so much to see and learn! The paths were very easy to navigate and the place was very clean and well kept! All the staff members were very helpful and informative as well as polite! I loved how they stayed in character for the most part minus the jokes and the explanation of the comparison on how things were done now and then. The theater showing on Bacons rebellion was amazing! We learned so much about that time period we had no idea about! The museums were amazing as well! They had so much to see, read, and learn! My kids especially enjoyed visiting the Discovery and Godspeed ships as well as the Indian village areas! You cant beat learning history by visiting the actual areas where the history was created! This place is a must see!!!
Probably the fanciest building and museum Ive ever seen. My kids 6 and 7 werent fans of the elaborate and in depth indoor exhibits but loved the fort recreation especially the blacksmith and the ships. The Powhatan village recreation was incredibly interesting and I found out that wow was originally a Powhatan word, take that world of warcraft you were 400 years behind naming the curve!
A great place to learn the beginnings of a great nation. Take time to slowly navigate through the indoor exhibits, the Indian village outside as well as the ships. Its a great look into the beginning of our nation. Its a place for children of all ages to be engaged. In the warmer months, the number of interactive characters and live exhibits will be more to enjoy. However, it was nice too when it was less crowded.
Definitely worth going all together it takes three hrs or longer depending on you we were there five hrs because we just enjoyed all the history, the museum was flawless so much to see and do definitely a family trip or just you 🙂❤️
This place is sooo awesome and very kid friendly! The actors in the living museums were extremely attentive to the childrens questions and were engaging and informative at the same time. Almost everything was open to the public for a small fee but it was totally worth it (You can choose to pay more for a guided tour if you want). They had an interactive museum, boats and towns to scale and active working technology for that time. To be honest, I was super impressed by how much I got to see for only $18 bucks. Definitely a great pick for a family day out! Make sure you wear comfy shoes and give yourself the whole day to explore.
A neat interactive stop. Jamestown settlement offers a large indoor museum with several short movies to watch. Also featured is the outdoor interactive, period accurate, fort and town.
Definitely enjoyed seeing this historic place! It was very informative with great service leading up to the park! Highly recommend it!
Even during pandemic times this was a great time! Day players let you experience a little of how life was for the Jamestown settlers. You could set foot on one of the huge ships that carried settlers from England to Virginia, see the recreated James Fort. Awesome experience! Refreshes history a bit, a lot of fun!
Always an amazing time at Jamestown. We are members and enjoy going every few weeks. We always find something new and interesting. My kids love the watching the historical movies
Great museum and historical information. The ships were well done.Great presentations and polite and helpful and very knowledgeable presenters. Some walking within museum and out in the fort and at the boats.
Fantastic preservation of our early history! I was so pleased to find out that they had free scooters for people with mobility issues. It allowed me to see the entire area. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Very informative Museum taught us a lot about the Jamestown Settlement and the impact that slaves had on Virginia
Very nice place. Lots of places to walk around and explore. Great to go if you love history or just want to know more.
Actors were great! Kind and knowledgeable. Musket fire was the best and the kids liked the ship and huts.
Everything about this experience was excellent. The staff was helpful and welcoming. The museum was well maintained and informative. The guided tour was excellent. The grounds and facilities were historically accurate and well maintained. We enjoyed seeing the exhibits and spent several hours here. This was a great experience for all ages and members of our family.
History that you can walk through and see. Great staff that engage and answer your questions. Worth the trip.
What a cool place to go. Wife and I enjoyed this amazing place. The people who are dressed in period clothing were full of incredible information on what the first settlers went thru when they arrived in America. We did spend half a day here. This is a must see attraction if your in thus part of the country. The management here has kept thus place so clean considering how many tourists come here each day.
Wow! So much history. The actors are great, the short movie is great, the ships are amazing. The gift shop is bomb. Would recommend!
Wonderful experience. Very nice I door historical museum and outdoor renditions.
Awesome integration of nature and history. Best exhibits-- inside and out!
Very cool place to visit! Not everything was open but the staff did a great job with the circumstances. I loved it!!
The reproductions of the settlement and ships were meticulously done. The staff were extremely knowledgeable about the history of both life in the settlement and the efforts taken to reproduce and maintain it.
My family loved our visit! We started outside since they close 30 minutes earlier than inside & we wanted to make sure we had enough time. It was wonderful to get to interact, ask questions & explore the different environments that the Native Americans, colonists & those coming on ships would have experienced/lived. The kids were most excited about the actual buildings, huts & ships! We then headed inside to explore. There are mask signs posted everywhere, we kept our distance & respected others space, after coming back in from outside we didnt wear masks & were not hassled by anyone. We were disappointed that most of the interactive/touchable/audio parts have been removed or deactivated due to covid, but as an adult it didnt take away as much as it did for the kids who cant read yet. Overall we really enjoyed our trip & are hopeful that we can make another trip back in the future when all the restrictions have been removed. Also make note that when they say they close at 5pm the mean it, 30 seconds after 5pm the gift shop is telling you its time to leave! So make sure you plan ahead & either go there first or leave plenty of time after exploring to be able to shop around.
The Jamestown Settlement is not part of the National Park system (the National Park part is up the road a short distance) but the history they share is excellent & the ship replicas are awesome.
Loved our adventures into the Jamestown settlement, galleries, ships, and the live history of the Paspahegh village. It was really interesting to talk with the Native American descendents and history experts to have them answer all my questions. Ive traveled to many forts and colonies previously so its always fun to see guns shot or traditional works being done, but getting to experience the Native American side of things was new and interesting. The meusuem also went more detailed into the Black/African tribes before colonization and slavery along with the process of their cultural changes. It was refreshing to learn new things about topics thought but not in detail. At the end of the meusuem there is even a fun game on a touch screen you can play solo or with another person to test everything youve learned! A nice reviews and interesting to see things I missed out on. Highly recommend asking lots of questions. Tip: When not sure what to ask, my go to is between whats something most people dont know? Or what is your favorite fact about this I learned parts of a ship I never would have looked at twice and that the Native American tribes were run through the mothers blood line! Im sure Id learn new things every time I go and with every person I talk to :)
We bought the combo tickets for the Jamestown Settlement & American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. We really liked both museums. They were very informative and interactive. The museums are divide into time periods and have videos and displays that can be interacted with to learn more. They also have an outdoor section with people dressed in period friendly costumes to explain the life and times of early settlers. Everyone is very friendly. We had a great time. It took us two full days to see it all, a day for each museum.
Really loved the ships but, cant go all through them due to covid. Museum was awesome
Very well done !!! Lots to see and do not as interactive as pre covid but still my two seven year old boys had a great time !! Was very hot 🥵 outside so the museum was a great way to finish the experience.
Given the fact that there is a shortage of workers in this country, Jamestown settlement did a great job. The employees that were there were extremely kind compassionate and very knowledgeable making our experience truly wonderful. The ladies in the gift shop by the entrance Made Our shopping experience a pleasant one. Taking the time to wrap each gift carefully. Kindly and patiently answering all of our questions. The gentleman on the ship made the walk well worth it in the hundred degree heat. Also at the Jamestown fort even though that gentlemen were sweating Bullets due to the heat, they also stayed in character and made everything come alive. Jamestown Settlement is truly a must see on your visit to Williamsburg. Get there early when they open and you will have almost the entire place to yourself. We will definitely go back.
Great experience even after many visits! Due to covid-19 some hands on things were closed. However a lot to do and see.
Awesome place for some great history. They have reenactments in certain areas and a great museum. The cafeteria is open and theres limited areas you can go into. Theres also no pictures allowed inside the museum which doesnt make any sense. Everything else was awesome including the fort and the Native American area.
Great place to visit. Lots of information and hosts are very informative. Plan on spending a good portion of the day if you wish to take in and enjoy everything. Cafe and gift shops on site.
So let me start this off by saying the weather was HOT! But it was still an amazing experience. All the workers there were very knowledgeable and patient with our questions. The Ships were awesome, and Native American section was very informative. The Jamestown Settlement Part of it was really cool, we got to talk with the Carpenter for a while and then we went inside. Air Conditioning is amazing! We then visited all indoor exhibits and my kids loved it and it was very informative. We also checked out the Gift shop which had some very nice items and we ate at the Cafe which had really good Corn dogs. If you are in the area you should definitely check it out.
This place was fun, especially when the cannons go off! I like the little settlement area best
Jamestown Settlement was a great experience that I would recommend doing before you head over to Old Jamestowne, reasonable prices for entrance, gets you a pass through the entire museum complete with outdoor exhibits. The indoor museum host a great amount of artifacts that helps guide you through the lives of the natives, enslaved, and early colonial settlers with a glimpse also into military life and relics from England, too. A theater, will help paint the visual for what youre about to experience before you embark on your journey. The outdoor exhibits are of course the gem of this Settlement with recreations of Jamestown, an native village, and replicas of three of the major ships that carried over the settlers. The living historians are excellent and its truly an opportunity to step back into time, to the year of 1607, over four centuries ago.Plentiful interactive exhibits that overwhelms your senses and transports you through time. You can see, smell, touch, and hear how those of our past lived, survived, and died.I highly recommend this place to anyone from the casual historian to the history buff, and its great for young and old alike. There is truly something for everyone here at Jamestown Settlement and itll ultimately prepare you for your visit to Old Jamestowne, so, as you take a look at the old archeological sites, you can paint a more vivid image of how it once may have appeared.Incredible place that is a MUST visit while youre exploring the historic triangle of Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown.
Very nice, I like that it was quite empty. I liked walking around in the outside areas. The indoor areas were also nice but I liked the outdoor areas more.
We go every year to take advantage of the homeschool deal. Unfortunately our tour was cancelled due to thunderstorms but we still enjoyed the inside exhibits.
We really enjoyed this unexpected treasure. The staff was very helpful, yet allowed us to enjoy the exhibits without interruption. They two videos we saw were spectacular. The indoor museum was clean and so well put together. Restrooms were plentiful and clean as well. The outdoor exhibits were wonderful. We enjoyed boarding a replica of one of the old ships they traveled to Virginia in. We also spoke with many of the staff who were Manning various locations throughout the outdoor museum. They were so knowledgeable and friendly.
Very nice combination of museum exhibits and outdoor recreations. The ships were amazing. Its crazy to think how many people crammed into these small ships and spent months at sea.The overall theme was not only how the English came over, but also the interactions with the Native Americans and how the first slaves were introduced from Africa.
Theyve done a really good job with this place and their exhibits!! My son really enjoys the replica ships and all of the actors!
Very educational for all ages! Well kept establishment! You can always tell the pride of a business by the way they keep their Restrooms.Tip: Bring cash (Dollar Bills) for vending machines (water) and snacks.Aside of that I would have given it 5 Stars.
Great time, got there late I the day but had plenty of time to see everything
If you find yourself in the area you must stop by here . The town feels very inviting . The staff at the muesuem are very friendly. There is also so much to see within. I highly recommend a stop here . Good restraint nearby once you have worked up an appetite.
Great experience and to top off a really good gift shop!
A fun historical experience that allows a glimpse of what life might have been like during the original time period of Jamestown. I highly recommend it for any family coming to the Williamsburg/Yorktown area.
Loved learning the very start of our history as Americans! We were here during their Homeschool Days, which offers a great deal for both Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum in Yorktown. Thank you to all the tour guides and actors who made this experience amazing!
Simply worth the price of admission. Really well done. The staff is great. Well-kept up park and educational signs everywhere. The museum is terrific, including the feature short movie. Just love the place. Discounts for multiple days or a combo pack for Yorktown and Jamestown. You can see the entire place in one day so plan to be there awhile. 5 stars!
Always a great experience! Plus today the Military through the Ages was AWESOME
Worth the trip! Lots to see and most parts are reopened unlike Colonial Williamsburg.
Loved visiting this historical museum. So much to see.
A great place to spend at least a couple of hours while learning about multiple different things from the Jamestown era. It has amazing museum exhibits and a very cool outside exhibits, old ships, and a nature trail. The nearby Colonial Parkway is a great way to get around to the neighboring sites, cities and towns.
A wonderful and fun experience for the whole family.☺️ There is a lot of walking so suggest wearing proper shoes.
They do a good job of teaching what the settlers and natives had to endure on an everyday basis. Great for kids to see first hand accounts presented by people in time period correct clothing, portraying various members of the Jamestown settlers as well as the natives.
Tickets are reduced to $17.50 right now for an adult because some of the exhibits are closed. You can walk onto one of the three ships but can’t go into any enclosed rooms on it.There was lots to see in the indoor exhibits. Most everyone I saw was wearing a mask correctly. At the outdoor exhibits, there were many employees and visitors not wearing masks.
What a nice beautiful place! Kids ages, 9,7,5 loved it here. The interaction with the employees was exceptional. We will be returning again! There was so much to see and take in for just one day!
Interpreters were very friendly and knowledgeable
Great place to learn!
Lot of history here in a modern environment.
A wonderful experience. I have been searching ancestry lately and found several family members on the Jamestown roster.
Walk around for hours just looking and listening to so many cool things !
Could have spent two days here. Fascinating place.
Great! My expectations were surpassed. A must see.
Incredible place. I cant rave about it enough. Being British it holds a special place in my homesick heart. Its a magical place with such rich history. You have to see it for yourselves. The staff go above and beyond and are super helpful. We will be back....the British are coming!
We were met at reception by a helpful staff member. Senior rates weren’t on the menu but we received a discount upon request. There was a lot to see and we enjoyed the period dressed partners as well as the videos and displays inside. The gift shop possessed many unusual items. We spent 2 hours there.
Cool buildings and it showed how they lived back in the late 1690s or early 1700s.
Good education and very historical
Was worth the trip from Ft. Lauderdale. Terrific, so glad we came.
A must see while visiting Virginia. Great staff and amazingly clean and friendly staff as well as volunteers. You can walk on the ships, walk in the settlement, and make sure you watch all the movies. Soo well done. Learned alot.
The staff are super knowledgeable and friendly, and Theyre very quick to catch misinformation, and reach those who listen. I would block off 4 to 5 hours if you want to take a detailed walk of the museum & grounds. Must see the ships in the Chesapeake.
Built up a lot since I last went in 2001. Ships were real cool and the settlement area is as I remembered. Very nice place and interpreters are amazing. They dress, act, and talk the part.Highly recommend. Well worth the money for tickets.
Fantastic place to visit. Make sure you allow plenty of time. I think our oldest could have spent all day there.
Great time for the whole family!
Great time and we got lucky we visited and they were having the Military Through the Ages Special Event, great event with authentic historic uniforms and props.
Wish it wasnt raining when we visited but still had a good time
Historical site with vast amount of information. And if youre military, its free.
Good place to begin to understand why Jamestown is important. But by all means go to the actual site down the road Jamestown Rediscovery to see the actual site.
Very educational and beautiful place.
Great experience. Updated museum, great presentation. Wished there was more info about a lot of what we were looking at outside.
Good food in the cafe. Lovely staff. Great movie. World class exhibit. Engaging actors. Definitely worth a trip.
My sister and I went and had so much fun!
