One of the best places for the locals to learn and spend time catch up with friends. It offers the great atmosphere for all ages to refresh themselves by reading.

Spent here quite a lot of time last year and really loved it. You can find all kind of books and a great atmosphere here. Whenever I wanted to have a good time reading I came here and always found a good place. The childrens corner is great as well and theres a place to pray on the first floor next to the Cafe.

It has three floors, each one has hundreds shelves of books I assume, because its really big. Love the vibes around, everyone seems concentrating on something they really love. Also, they have a cafe where you can get great food after a hunting in knowledge.

Im devastated that the library is closed for good! It was the first place my family discovered when were first came to Wellington. We spent hours every weekend here, lying around reading books, listening to music and picking out movies, then wandering up to Clarks for a cuppa. What will we do now...forget everything else! The library is a priority...

Whats not to love about a library. We were just visiting wellington and I need a place to work and open my laptop and I had a productive afternoon here. Nice ambience to work / study, especially with the view overlooking the harbour - couldnt ask more! We get a free wifi from the city as well - Thank you Wellington.

This library is good for everything else just there is major problem. you can only use 4 types of websites that end with .govt . school . org etc. even google is not free to use . you have to pay 6$ for just 1 hour ? ridiculous. i went to national library 15 min away. and they dont charge anything. moreover. i was applying for a licence on a govt website though. there was a photo checker column and i click on that. the browser was so old that i was not able to tick that column as it was not showing there. i try other computer same problem. here in national library i can use it easily.

The guy at the membership counter was so unfriendly (unfriendly is an understatement) and I wonder if he knew what customer service is, its ridiculous that a rude guy like him could get a job just sat there and talking to people without even looking at them! Well done Wellington central library!!!

Wellington Central Library is a great place to hang out. Heaps of good books and public spaces to use. It also has paid computer access and printing. You can connect to the free “cbdfree” wifi too. Too bad it’s closed at the moment for earthquake strengthening. When it is back open it should be a great place again.

Generally speaking the Wellington City library has top of the line and very up to date collection of general interest books, magazines, CDs, DVDs etc. But it really falls short if you are after resources for research of any sort of depth. And as someone else mentioned the fees and fines are horrendous.

A large and very well equipped library, colocated with the Citizens Advice Bureau and Clarks Cafe. The collection is extensive and covers pretty much anything you would care to read. Theres also a large audiovisual section where music and movies/TV series can be hired. Theres a special childrens area with beanbags and toys, which hosts childrens storytime and other activities. Throughout the four levels of the library there are plenty of armchairs forr quiet reading, desks for individual study, and tables for group discussion. Its a good place to meet a friend or do some individual work. Its also warm and inviting in winter when its cold and wet outside.

Layout of the place is bizarre. The computers are terrible. They have 4 that offer free internet but they only load New Zealand websites, so basically useless. Even using legit websites to find jobs in New Zealand are often blocked. Have to pay $1.50 for 15 minutes!Save the hassle and get faster internet and better computers for less cost at any of the cyber cafes in the area.

Fantastic library. Various little nooks to curl up and plant yourself down, always lots of folks with laptops. Great variety of books over different floors as well as magazines, dvds&cds. Ground floor also has a good childrens area. New self check out machines are great, super quick and easy to use - have seen little people&grandas use them no problems. Most of the staff are super friendly and helpful. Great big book sale a couple of times a year. Clarks cafe upstairs is a great spot too. All the libraries do interloans, would definitely recommend downloading the app.
