Elegant and opulent cafe/restaurant/bar. We only popped in for a coffee but thoroughly enjoyed the coffee (they use local beans from Mount Victoria) and the atmosphere while in there. The staff who served us was lovely and the wait times were minimal. We will be back to try the restaurant.

Great cafe, bar and restaurant all in one. Theres a cute joke about Russian newspapers that goes theres no truth in Pravda and no news in Izvestia (Pravda means truth and Izvestia means news...)... but here at Pravda there are good newspapers, cocktails, food, coffee and theyre all enjoyable. Its not Russian food - but lets be honest, thats a blessing! Great for all meals, a quick break or a long night of cocktails and tale telling. The gorgeous surroundings make you feel like a spy in an old European city with bold Russian wall hangings, high ceilings, big windows and sparkling chandeliers. Ill be the woman in the red coat! See you there 1.03.

Love a good steak house and this is one of them. Great atmosphere and great food. Perfect temperature on the steaks and tender as. The greens and onion rings were great too. Butter sauce could have used a bit of salt I think but the bourbon or brandy sauce was much better. Shout out to the waiter working his first shift!

I was treated extremely rudely by the front of the house staff yesterday. First my mask was loose and this young girl barked orders at me. Considering the fact that I am ‘encouraged’ by regulations to wear one but by no means required (!) it could be more rude to speak ti me on that manner. On my way out - the stairs and the lower part were empty (!) I didn’t think of putting the mask on. Same girl ordered me, not even asked kindly, but barked order to put my mask on. And when I told her that I could but btw was not required she started to tell me that in this country (as opposed to some other savage country I supposedly come from as I obviously spoke with an accent ?!) I have to wear a mask, she asked me if I was crazy next ! I said that I was just going to pay and leave she yelled at me saying She didn’t want my money anyway and that I should get out and never come back!!!I had my view at the situation and I politely stated it, I was no less than abused and shoved out. Remind you, customers are not required by government to me masked up. Besides that point this little blind blue eyed girl didn’t have to be rude to me, she could have politely invited me to take my leave. When I emailed Pravda later that day, no insert followed. This is the Pravda about pravda…

Pravda Cafe and Grill is a very classy restaurant in the heart of Wellingtons CBD. The food was great and the waiting times were really good considering the place was full to capacity. The service was friendly and professional. The prices were quite high, but in accordance with the quality of the food that was delivered. The interior decor was elegant, complete with chandeliers and ornate mirrors. An all round enjoyable experience. I definitely would go again.

The best steak I have ever eaten- WAGYU KAGOSHIMA A5 JAPAN!!!

Review №9

We went to Pravda especially so I could try their Japanese A5 Wagyu Steak...Disappointed.When brought out, just the steak on the plate, there was no dressing, the presentation was extremely lacking and poor, it looked like a dry overcooked thin schnitzel, a disappointing start. It was the larges cut they had, about 160 grams, at a cost of $150, a sirloin cut I was told.Cutting into it, it was rare in the middle, but being quite thin, was medium on the sides.Taste wise, it was very tender which was good, but the flavor was overpowered by the char grill and the seasoning... Tasted more like it has been cooked by an amateur on a home BBQ.Was it worth the money? No.It was worth trying, dont regret it, but I would not recommend ordering that meal at that price, when other restaurants can offer a better sized and flavored steak for a quarter of the price.

Very disappointing.Went to Pravda especially to try the Japanese A5 Wagyu Steak, but what was served up was poor.No dressing on plate, no sauce or herbs, no attempt to make it look good at all... Just a rubbish looking cut off steak dumped on a large white plate... The chef has no idea how to plate a meal correctly. The steak was tender which was its only saving grace, other than that it had an overpowering BBQ char grill taste, and to much seasoning, tasted like it was cooked on a home BBQ by an amateur.Paid $150 just for the steak...Rubbish.Do not recommend this venue

I used to love Pravda big time. They had the best Caesar salad, ever...a while back. But Ive been there twice recently and gave them the benefit of the doubt the first time, the same thing happened the second time. They dont poach their egg. They sous vide it. And this results in the mind boggling combination of an overcooked yolk, yet an undercooked white. Its the worst egg Ive ever had. Twice.

I thoroughly enjoyed the soup of the day and the lamb dish as my main course from first bite to last (the meat was superbly cooked and tender) The glass of wine I had which was recommended to me by the waiter was full bodied and intriguing and complimented the food nicely. The dessert was also very good, crumble with liquid custard. Excellent texture. Staff were friendly, upbeat and there when you needed them. Nothing good to say. Our starter of stale bread was great to pick at while we watched the chefs eating and running their fingers through their hair. My main an over priced inconsistently cooked rump served with a split truffle bernaise and vegetables cooked to...well paste.I told our server my sauce was split to which she replied I thought so ( so why serve it). It was taken away and when returned obviously the kitchen had spooned the top lol. So I still had split sauce just half as much for the same price. My partners risotto was bland and mediocre at best and a small portion . I had to put my puffer jacket on as it was so cold. Our server seemed to preoccupied flirting with one of the chefs to notice.Left feeling utterly ripped off and just bad. There are many amazing restaurants in wellington to choose from i would recommend all of them before Pravda.A once great restaurant has truly let it standards slip very low. Taking the mushy vegetables off the bill and even the fries!. Wow what a joke .

So we went to Pravda to celebrate my sons birthday. What can I say, real disappointment and disaster. The Cesar salad was ok but the dressing bland, the calamari was poor the crust was poor so was the flavour. The Tartar was blend too and quality of beef poor or poorly executed. We ordered bread and thought the herb butter would be flavourful but obviously there is a problem with the chefs tast buds. Chicken was ok so was the steak. We asked the sauce on the side but got it on the plate. The chips was stale ,cold and not crispy like proper fries. The biggest disaster was the Brownie it was a lump of hard ganache the Cheries came from a jar so was the Sauce. It was hard as a rock needed a knife couldnt even finish. The brûlée was edible because of the sorbet but when the menu said Passion fruit you do not expect half of a fruit on the brulé. We thought it would have been infused in the brulé. This was another disaster. Also ordered lemonade but got Sprite instead. The sauce we order was split and disgusting. On top of that the waitress wasnt professional she dumpt the plates on the table and for a place like that I would have thought they would expect to clean the plate faster and also the table but that wasnt the case. We ate the food because we were hungry but we were extremely disappointed. One of the biggest flops we ever had for a very expensive price which wasnt worth it. My takeout near my house cooks better the Pravda for a fraction of the price. The biggest mistake they made was charging us 3 extra item on our bill that we did not order. My husband did not see it but when I checked the total did not make sense. So I saw the extra 3 items that were charged on our bill of 32$ 😠. Went back for a refund was very angry for the unprofessionalism and got no explanation whatsoever.Do not put your foot there its a waist of money and time.

Very disappointing.Went here a few months ago for lunch and the food was terrible. The calamari was over-salted and a single portion could have fed four people.
