Good happy hour spot. Fish and chips were okay. Good selection of liquor and nice outdoor seating with umbrellas.
Great atmosphere. Super busy during lunch time and a little noisy but our group was still able to have good conversation. The food was great. The Yorkshire pudding was served at room temperature and could have been more hot. The burgers wraps and flatbread were flavorful. Our server was very attentive and professional.
This was such an amazing place. The staff was super friendly. We tried the two types of there wings, buffalo, + saltan and pepper. Then we got the standard burger,, all of the food was on point. The onion rings were so good. My fiance had the black bean veggie burger with the sweat potato fries. Wich she let me try and it was also amazing. I also had the regaled fries and loved them. Prices and atmosphere were great and would love to go back.
This is a pretty cool place...ideal for chilling put with friends and colleagues for an after work beer. The service was quite quick and the lady serving us was quite enchanting and full of smiles. I was being offered a drink, so didnt pay and cant comment on the pricing. But it qas a great experience. Above all, the messages about beer in the attached photos qas quite funny and interesting. I will go there again if the opportunity arises.😀
We were seated immediately and the restaurant had only a few other patrons, but several staff working. Despite this, we waited 10 minutes before even being acknowledged by any of the wait staff. Our server didnt greet us and only said, Are you ready to order? My son took a drink of his water and ended up with a long hair in his mouth. Our food arrived quickly, but was bland. We asked for an additional set of silverware as our table didnt have enough sets. He handed us a fork and knife with no napkin and didnt return once during our meal, so I shared a napkin with my son. We ordered a side item that never arrived and he didnt apologize. Most of the wait staff was in another room talking and using their phones while our water glasses sat empty and we shared napkins. This location is next door to my husbands place of employment, but we will not be returning despite the convenient location.
Great staff.Great drink deals. They were willing to put the soccer games on for us (and the audio since no one else was here).Couldn’t be happier!!!
Stopped here after walking around DC all day--luckily we hit happy hour (3-6), so beers were a good price and appetizers were half off. The atmosphere was calm and comfortable and the staff was very friendly. The place is good for families (we were there with two young children).
Unique and tasteful food. Worth the stop, atmosphere is a birtish sports pub. Not many people at the time we went, 5:00 on a Monday. Easy to het a table. Only negative music from bar area was very loud. Overall a great experience
My organization hosted an event here and it was a phenomenal experience! The staff was very courteous and attentive throughout our time there. The food was great! The rate was great! I don’t have a single complaint. We served a vegetarian appetizer/side spread and that was the best deal. We had so much flavorful food and we got a lot with our small budget.I definitely look forward to our organization hosting another get together here!
Another favorite of ours for lunch. Staff are amazingly friendly and helpful despite the heavy, crazy business at lunchtime!! They always manage to get us a booth, whether two, three or four of us. Service is fantastic, so fast that you can easily get in and out in one hour lunch unlike most local places. Food never fails to impress. We have some favorites such as the BBQ Guinness burger, the Butter Chicken pitta and rice dish, fish and chips British style, fish tacos and the sweet potato fries are so worth the upgrade from the regular. Great location for a catch up or chat or even interviewing new hires. First class staff. Love it.
Wanted to check out a restaurant after the Cherry Blossom Festival. Headed toward Founding Farmers. However, couldnt get in as they were booked. Made our way to Elephant and Castle instead. Upon entering one cant help notice an unpleasant smell. But reviews said food was good so we decided to stay. We ordered burgers and Blue Moon beer to drink. The food wasnt good at all, it was delicious. Glad we stayed!!!!
Excellent pub. Best fish and chips Ive had. Lamp tacos are also very good. Amazing service for the cherry on top.
It tries to be a British pub, almost. But the food is great and prices reasonable as is the drink. All said and done its a decent American bar.
There were 15 off us so we were given the menu for our choice of 2 courses. Options were just ok. One person in our party ordered off the menu because she wasnt going to eat both courses. The waitress that we had was great. Food- so-so.
We went for apps and drinks. Everything was okay, it wasnt too special. I was excited to get poutine, the gravy was definitely a mix and there wasnt enough cheese. The decor was absolutely adorable
Nice vibe. Good food, Brittish atmosphere. Gotta love the fireplace in the Winter!
My boyfriend and I stopped by for an early dinner on a Monday. The place was pretty empty, but the service was almost non-existent. The food was decent, thankfully, because the last time our server stopped by was when he took our order. Our table was right next to the computer. The place started filling up for trivia when we were finishing up our meal, and we were clearly forgotten. A busser came by to pick up our plates and asked if we wanted our check. Yes, please. We did not see him again. I ended up adding up the cost of our meal and tax and leaving the cash under my glass. My coworker said the bartenders take good care of guests, but the food isnt worth another shot, so we will not be back.
I really like the pubs in Britain; those in America are not nearly as consistent. If you must pub in central DC, this is likely among the best of the lot. Food is good, variety is better than most, the desert variety is good, & the staff has always been stellar. Even when busiest the E&C doesn’t feel claustrophobic, a huge plus.
Food was mediocre, and the wait staff was slow and inattentive depsite it being a largely empty restaurant (for reasons that became apparent to me by the end of my experience). On the plus side, the hostess was very sweet and enthusiastic, and it was a good place to pull out the laptop and get some work done.
Be aware! This place has terrible service! We had to ask for silverware, we had to get some of our drinks at the bar ourselves because they were never served. We got our food and that was the last time we seen the waitress. We were charged an automatic 18% gratuity which I am okay with paying if I actually receive service. When we were leaving we were going to order a taxi, the waitress gave us the wrong address and we therefore missed our taxi. Overall this was a horrible experience for our family. We will never be back. I wish I could give 0 stars. The date of service was 10/27/2017 around 5:30 pm.
Food was ok. Staff was friendly. Great for a quick bite of some bar food but by no means a high end restaurant. Close to hotels too so very convenient.
Service and food were both excellent. Fish and chips, reuben sandwich, nachos, and chicken tenders all were large portions, freshly made and delicious. Personally, I had the nachos and it’s accompanied by a large bowls of sour cream and salsa, the cheese is nicely melted with a little browning. Perfect. Great selection of beers on tap!
Had the chicken fingers for lunch and Id recommend a pass on this item. Overcooked breading and an unsubstantial amount of chicken. Also tasted like it had been cooked in old oil, I think. Otherwise, Ive enjoyed the burgers here in the past, and the French Dip is a safe bet, too. Friend of mine had a fried hot dog concoction (which looked good if not unhealthy) and seemingly enjoyed it. During weekday lunch time, service speed is hit or miss. With our last one hour lunch break, we had to press for the check to get back to the office on time.
Great beer choices. Apps are creative yet classic. Food is very good service is friendly but not as attentive as they could be. I came in at a relatively quiet time, yet servers just seemed scarce
British-like food, not badly priced at lunch time. Its corporatey feeling, but to be honest thats probably its most authentically British aspect. Take that as a knock on British pubs in the UK. If youre downtown and feel like a meat pie or breakfast with a pint, swing by
The bottomless mimosas and bloody Marys are always a great time! And the eggs Benedict are my favorite! The poutine was okay I feel like it could have been hotter and more melty. But flavor was good.
Burnt hamburgers. Old salad from a fridge with soiled dressing and extremely greasy chicken pot pie that was barely edible. It saddens me to say that the best part of our meal was the carbonated water they tried to pass off as Sprite and the dry chicken nachos, definitely from the night before, that was reheated in the microwave.
Solid bar with a variety of average and not-so-average beer choices. Decent food, especially for snacks. Rousing atmosphere around happy hour. All in all, a nice English pub-style bar
Standard pub fare plus poutine. They try for a few more exotic options with limited results. Appetizers are out of this world. If pub fare is what you want, this place delivers in spades. Can get busy but what are you gonna do.
The food was a little salty but the service was great the Moscow Mules and beer selection was awesome
Solid British food. I had the yorkshire pudding and it was delicious. Nice selection of beers and spirits. More than anything, the staff was very welcoming and attentive. They were also great with kids.
Nice place. Close to IMF. English style brew pub.
First dinner in D.C. on a early Monday evening. Excellent waitress Leah. Wonderful food and good atmosphere.
Excellent service and good food. I am English and could relate to the atmosphere🙌
Loved the beer selection, would definitely love to go back sometime. Environment was really nice, seems like its a great place to meet friends and colleagues after work. Only thing I didnt like was that the sandwich I ordered, the steak and cheese, had significantly more bread than meat lol--but it still tasted good.Definitely recommend and still planning on coming back for sure!
Great place for after work happy hour! Good deals for local drafts, well drinks, and house wines and small plates. Usually gets crowded during happy hour and can get a little loud. However, Ill be going back there!
Nice restaurant! The ambiance is very good and so the staff! We enjoyed
The place is very intimate and friendly. The food is soooooooo delicious! We had a huge Slimdog and a Shepherds pie with ground beef and lamb. YUM!!!! My wife and I loved the Bold Rock Cider. There are big screen TVs everywhere you look. The pub and restaurant has a British flavor to it. We will definitely return to try their Highland Bread Pudding. We were too full to have had it after our dinner! Highly recommend this place! So close to the Hampton Inn (who recommend it to us) which is on H Street.
Make sense why it has low rating on yelp. Food was extremely salty, I mean everything is beyond salty. Soup, fries, beef, etc all had like a pound of salt. Slow service even the place was really empty.
Coming from a British ex-pat who now lives in the US, this is honestly some pretty damn good food. Its a damn near perfect replica of some British dishes and as close as you can get for most. Prices were fair especially for DC area and our whole meal really wasnt that expensive. Oddly empty for a Saturday however, we were one of only two groups eating when we came in.
Always tasty fare & pleasant staff. Both locations have adequate seating = no wait. Family friendly, bar is separated from restaurant & non-intrusive.
Really great burgers, spot on fish and chips and the drink specials are timed right. Service spotty on busy nights and buns for burger didnt quite make it. Overall good British pub feel.
The restaurant is nice. The food is delicious. The staff is very friendly.
Service: pleasant; but, very slow. drinks were made but left sitting at bar for 5 minutes.Food: nothing seemed fresh or all that appealing.Drinks: good.
Went here for breakfast because Founding Farmers had a very long line. Eggs were very dry and bland, and the sausage was uninspiring. The bloody Mary wasnt especially great either. The service however was very good. Would maybe suggest this as a place to watch some footy with a few mates, but certainly not for the food. Again, great service though.
Excellent pub with outstanding food and good beer selection.
Always Great Food. Mood enhancing atmosphere to fit any occasion.
Fast service, great foodI had fish and chips and it was great.
Surprisingly tasty salad. Steak and mushrooms pie good. Guinness price high at 7.50. Service good.
This is a splendid place to grab a pint of cask drawn bitter and ale. Very authentic English pub. They have Fullers on tap and a great selection of food.
My friend and I went here for a drink after dinner last night. First, we saw 2 cockroaches and my friend killed them and we moved seats. The waitress was very nice and handled it well, but then, we saw 2 GIANT RATS in the eating area we were in!!!! We jumped up and grabbed our things and of course I screamed. The waitress came over and again she was very nice, no complaints about her at all. But this experience was awful and gross - they need to get pest control there ASAP.
What makes me give 1 star is the fact that the establishment was open for business. The waitress was snappy and rude. Once my friend and I ordered, he saw a very large cockroach crawling on the wall above the kitchen.
Came here twice for lunch. Great food, good beer, and very fast. Food was out in less than 10 minutes.
Nice selection of beers, food is good (though not all of it is pub food, so there is something for everyone). Place does have the vibe of a pub, nice for meeting up and hanging out.Burgers are good, as is the Guinness Meatloaf.
I had the blue cheese burger, dear lord it was ridiculously amazing. Price was perfect, beer was great, very good service. Whenever I go again I will definetly stop by.
British flare and exceptional shepherds pie! What more can you ask for!
Awesome place. I wish we would have found it at the beginning of our stay instead of the end.
Highly authentic food and decor. Great staff. Delicious. Amazing atmosphere. Good value for price.
Lively atmosphere. Friendly service. Good food.
Bar food is good and hh prices arent bad. But there are a lot of fruit flies at the bar. Also, poutine came out cold last visit, but normally is good.
I had the bacon wrapped meatloaf. It was excellent. You cant go wrong with that combination. My colleague had the French dip twice in 2 days. I think that says it all.
British pub feel with great service. We showed up right after the 4th of July parade around 2pm. There was a 15 minute wait before being seated. They had a nice system to text you when your table was ready so you wouldnt have to wait in the front entryway. Our waiter was very friendly and it helped that he was familiar with the drink selections. Despite being very busy, our food and drinks came out very fast (and was accurate).Overall i think this place did great with providing service and lived up to my expectation for a British style pub.
Food and service were decent. We probably killed about 5 or 6 gnats/fruit flies while at our booth inside
My food was good but service took awhile. Food I understand but it took a long time just to get water
This is a new location I think. It was nice and service was ass expected. Good food and drinks. Outside seating if you want.
They have a good gluten free menu - even buns for the burgers and sandwiches. Nice And the food is always good.
I planned a happy hour here. The atmosphere is perfect... Dim, not too loud, good beer selection.
Always a DC classic, and this your best bet for a pint, poutine, or Sheppards Pie anywhere around here.
Great service, but horrible place to eat. My wife order the flat bread curry chicken, and they forgot the chicken. Not only did they forget the chicken, but they also forgot to handle their roach infestation, upon completion of my meal, I noticed two roaches running around on my table. Other than that the service was great.
Today, I share praises of the Slumdog, one of the great dressed hotdogs of DC. The Elephant & Castle Slumdog is a roughly Costco-sized dog, rolled and fried in panko and dressed for and served in Nan. It is excellent.Add to that, first-rate waitress service from a young lady who guided my vegan wife to a satisfying lunch in a place one might not expect to have hidden vegan specialties. I can only hope the tip was adequate. Money really doesnt convey our satisfaction adequately, but coin of the realm is what weve got to do the job.I neglected to order a brew at lunch. Next time, perhaps. From prior experience, I know they serve a satisfying Guinness.
The best place for trivia on Monday night, but just come for the trivia. Beer options are just average, along with the food and service.
Subpar fish n chips. The fried pickles were too thick, they need to be crisp - not chewy. Service was good.
Over 20 minutes after being seated was I ever approached for my drink order. Slow service continued after that. I’ve never been one to take tipping lightly but found myself leaving only $1 vs. nothing at all to show that it wasn’t an omission but intentional. I struggled with even doing so.
Slow slow slowwww! Over an hour to get hamburgers, place half empty and told previously was busy due to a sports game.. if you break all your staff LET the customers know it will take AGES to get simple food (mine was a club not even hot so should not have taken long)
Putine is amazing. And so are the drinks and rest of the faire. Stop by this place with friends during happy hour, or on a trivia night for some fun and good times. Theres also sports on TV, but its more than just a sports bar place, Elephant and Castle lets you dine the way you like with sports or in a party of four or even sitting on the outdoor patio with work colleagues.
We loved the elephant but the princess was in another castle. Good times, relaxed and low volume.
Food: Great food. Poutine especially is worth trying. Lamb Burger was escellent.Staff: Although the hostess seemed like she was working in her home (dressed about the same) everyone else was professional.Atmosphere: Dated, but that might be part of the charm.Other: Customers were a bit loud and raucous, but it was a Saturday Night in DC.Recommendations; Get there before 8pm on the weekends.
The food was great but as an outta towner from Florida here on a work trip the bar tender was awesome. I will come back for the food, great recommended beer on tap that I fell in love with and the great service from the bar. Please come check them out!!!
Bartender Ahmet was so friendly and professional. Foods always great here😊
Monday night trivia is excellent! Prices are reasonable and their food is good.
Very bad service, uncouth manager and servers. I informed both of the situation before leaving. I sat there for over 45min no one attended to me. It was not crowded at all. The arrogance of brand name will bring this restaurant down to the competition in DC. I dont recomnend it. Take your business and fun elsewhere
They had great food, great Ambiance and the service was pretty good
Went here for lunch what an amazing restaurant. Absolutely loved it service was great and theyre food was beyond delicious.
