I would first like to say that the staff here is absolutely amazing !! They were so so kind, and very generous as well. It was my first time here in DC and honestly these people made me feel so welcomed. I have nothing but good things to say about this location. The food was also amazing ! Very flavorful, well cooked, and prepared with love. AWESOME SPOT
If you want to operate a successful business, keep your politics to yourself. I used to like going there to eat but this brainwashed company drew a line in the sand by requiring vaccination card proof. Even though I have mine, I won’t support any company that chooses to treat people who freely choose not to be vaccinated this way. It’s companies like you who are supporting the division in our country! Stop the spread of hatred for those who practice freedom of choice.
Really nice vibe in here. Was really busy when I went, but service was still pretty good and food was great. Definitely recommend checking it out!
Amazing restaurant! Just ate there for the first time and three of us had three vegetarian dishes and one salmon entree. We all Loved the food. Great flavors and spices, great Naan bread options, and great service! All the entrees are offered in full size or half size - which was a great way to sample some different dishes without over-ordering! Spice (heat) levels were pretty low by default so probably ask for some heat if you prefer it. Highly highly recommended!
Im not a big Indian food lover but a friend introduced me to Pappe and the food was terrific. We did family style and we each ordered a dish and I cant say there was one that I didnt like. The staff is friendly and the owner is very nice and helpful when trying to figure out a dish to eat.
This place used to be great, but theyve twice messed up my order and no one has answered phone calls to fix it. If youre gonna charge high end prices for takeout, you cant be contemptuous/negligent of the phones. Sad decline.
Excellent food and good service. Recommend doing two vegetarian half dishes. Prices are decent for being in a popular area.
Very tasty fare, wish they had more vegan options
Delicious Indian food at a reasonable price. Loved that they labeled vegan on their menu and the eggplant dish (BAINGAN BARTHA) was smoky and complex - simply divine. My new go-to!
Delicious food, friendly staff and budget friendly
Food was delicious. I’m not super knowledgeable on Indian food but the garlic Nan, eggplant entree and gin cardamom drink were tasty and interesting. Would say the vegetable samosas weren’t super flavorful...It was a busy Friday night so it took some time for things to come out and only had minimal attention from the waiter. I likely would have asked more questions about the menu but it seemed it would have been a bother. I’d recommend it to friends and encourage a reservation or risk not having space. Especially for weekend days.
We made an online reservation, and NO HEADS UP required proof of vaccination although all the party already has the vaccine. Very impolite manager and host. A few recommendations for you: 1) design your online reservation to let people know about whatever new policy you have going on; 2) at least offer an apology to your guest and make them feel welcome even if you decline to welcome them due to restrictions.RUDE.
As someone with roots in India’s south, Pappe is a gem for Indian cuisine; they truly do it justice.I had the pleasure of speaking with the Chef at the bar over a Cardamon Gimlet (quite refreshing and delicious BTW).He’s from north India, but he’s traveled the subcontinent, sampling the cuisine. The roasted mustard seed in the Malabar curry is evidence enough to me, that he’s serious about food, and knows the south, as well as—no doubt—food throughout the subcontinent.I’ve had several dishes there (mostly to-go during the pandemic), and every one of them was a pure pleasure on the palate.Great ambiance, with a decor of deep reds, and just the right lighting.I will be a frequent visitor now that the pandemic is over.Note to people new to Indian food; the dry red chili pepper can be a fiery furnace if eaten whole, but if you want to add a little more spice to your dish, slice one of the chilis open length-wise, and mix the seeds with the sauce, add spice to your liking.
Delicious!! I love going here. My dad isnt the biggest fan of Indian cuisine and he LOVED it. Theres something here for everyone. And the atmosphere is classy, not too loud, and colorful. I fully recommend getting the naan basket to enjoy with your meal. The Four Corners drink was perfectly strong and well crafted. IMO fairly priced, at least for the DC food scene. Two recommendations/improvements I have: I wish the platters were also available for dinner and not just lunch. Also, I do wish some of the tables in the middle, the 2 tops, were further apart. I dont like being so close to strangers where I can hear every word they whisper, especially during covid.
Exceptional—one of the best Indian dining experiences I’ve ever had. Tandoori chicken was incredibly succulent and flavorful. The vegetarian deluxe thali was a scrumptious sampling of flavors, with the charcoal-smoked dal makhani a standout. The inclusion of Indian pickle and raita with the thali it made it feel all the more authentic. Highly recommended.
Poor service, inconsistent food quality and pricey. They want to play in the fancy dine in segment but the quality is so not there in anything.
Modern interior, good range of options, covering different regions of India (yet clearly on the North Indian side). Great bread selection. A pity the Shagi Tugda (a rare find on the dessert menu) was not available on the day of my visit. The space get‘s pretty noisy when fully booked, communication with the masked waitresses and waiters can be challenging. A/C is strong, better bring a cardigan
Worst Experience.. No one at the front desk and had to go near Kitchen area to find some one and get us seated.. Someone showed up after ten minutes and informed kitchen is closed. Restaurant should remove open table reservation gor 2:45 PM .. Would suggest everyone to rethink before visiting restaurant.. Rude staff..!!!
Excellent food , good ambiance.lamb Rogan josh is Amazing.
Very poor service. We all had vaccination card. Except one person, we had online proof. But still the guy didn’t let us in. We asked for the manager too but he didn’t even let us see the manager. Never going in there again.
Arrived upon opening, the last Saturday in March/2021. Victorian optics are real, very old mid-1800s bldg but well kept up/modernized. Classic b/w photos of India a century ago; a couple have been hilariously photoshopped. Look close or youll miss it.Am vegan so basically ordered all the side dishes--papadam, mix veg pickle, mango chutney, cucumber raita, garden salad. Entree--chose veg thali with garlic naan. Server was polite, attentive, polished.Extremely good food and wished my family were there. Will return everytime Im in D.C. [Restrooms sparkled. Extra touch: hand sanitizer on each table.]
It was a nice place. Great Butter Chicken with a unique touch. Service was almost good, but the bill took a bit longer than usual to get. Overall, would definitely recommend it.
This place was pretty good! The gobi Manchurian wasn’t the best I’ve had, rather large florets (I like smaller so they’re crispier), but pretty good. I am used to getting a larger portion of this, but to their defense it is classified as a “small plate.” The Punjabi Aloo Gobi was pretty good, as the Channa Pindi. I also the cardamom gimlet, which was quite big for a gimlet (in an old-fashioned glass), but I definitely enjoyed it! My friends got the green chillies naan and loved it. They said it was the best variation. Very happy that they have labeled vegan options! The place was really nice inside, but we sat outside because it was a nice day, which was also pretty nice!
Food is delicious and staff friendly. I Went there regular 2 days. If I go back again DC definitely I will go pappi. Lamb curry, spicy chiken Tikka. ….tasty food.
Heard about this new Indian restaurant Pappe from a friend. Came and tried it. It looks amazing, i order chicken vandaloo. It was a great dish. They also have a bar, great drinks. Nice place to have lunch or dinner, with family or friends. A great food place for everyone. A place worth the visit, and staff was very nice.
The food was good but they charge 3.50$ for one naan! Very ridiculous.
Absolutely worst hospitality. We showed our vaccine card still he need picture on it. No other restaurant does it. Seems like he has problem with manager cause the guy was blaming all to the manager .
Restuarant has very vibrant and colorful ambiance. Loved the food! we ordered aloo papdi chat, muteer paneer, and baingan (eggplant) bharta all of which was delicious! The restaurant strictly only serves happy hour drinks at the bar which was very inconvenient as there were not enough seats available for our group.
Delicious food, friendly staff. I recommend the chicken malabar
Visiting DC and craving Indian food, and so glad I gave this place a try. The goan smoke cocktail was absolutely delicious as was the chicken vindaloo and garlic naan!
Great spot for Indian food in DC. The curries are super flavorful
Great Curry, Butter Chicken und Chicken Tikka Masala! Atmosphere and Ambiance is traditional, neat and comfortable. The restaurant appears super clean. Servers are pleasant and communicative. And most importantly the food is nicely presented, taste was delicious to a good price point. I can highly recommend the Chicken Tikka Masala!
Entering this restaurant, the atmosphere felt tight and cozy, however, the service that we received was subpar. The entirety of our visit, we had a server staring us down, making us feel unwelcome. The wait time for the lackluster food was much longer than anything we had experienced. We had ordered the Gobi Manchurian and the Dahi Puri. Out of those two “appetizers” the Gobi Manchurian was many times better than the Dahi Puri, which came with a stale puri. For our entrées, we ordered the Malai Kofta, Baingan Bhurtha, Paneer Aachari. There was no “aachari” element in the Paneer Aachari and the paneer lacked any color which would indicate the presence of spice, the Baingan Bhurtha lacked any semblance of flavor, and the Malai Kofta was just mediocre. The “star” of the night was the Gobi Manchurian which was surprisingly crisp and well spiced. If you are familiar with Indian cuisine, be sure to stay away from this restaurant.
The food was delicious and fresh. Palak paneer, gobi manchurian and onion bhajia definitely hit the spot. The mint chutney was amazing. However, I was a little disappointed with the biryani as it lacked the flavors and could’ve taken up more salt in my opinion. Will visit again.
Didnt have a reservation, waited only a couple minutes to be seated on a Friday night (it was busy).Place is nice enough, exposed brick and industrial style with ornamental pillows/curtains/and what looks like saris overhanging tables. Out of place looking bar right in the middle of the restaurant.Service was ok. Thought we were getting a free starter - turns out they just delivered it to the wrong table. Didnt see a waiter after being seated for a fairly long time (15+ minutes). Waiter forgot our drink order - have us a free drink too compensate. Not terrible, but not amazing.Food was hit or miss - yogurt explosions were fantastic, samosas were dinky/wimpy for what youre paying, and the portion sizes run a little smaller than I was hoping for the entrees. Pros were that the mushroom truffle naan was the star of the show, so good. Chicken in the chicken Tikka Masala was perfectly cooked and the curry was great - strong, savory, spicy; there just wasnt enough of it to warrant $17. Other entree we tried was aloo gobi (potatos and cauliflower) - not good, weak flavor for the cauliflower, seemed as if they were tossed into the small amount of curry at the end. Rice was dry. Presentation wasnt anything spectacular (except the yogurt explosion - those looked great). Overall, middle of the road food experience.Tldr: If youre going to go here, start with the yogurt explosion, get the mushroom truffle naan, and have the chicken Tikka Masala. Forgive the rice, and steer clear of samosas and aloo gobi.
I love the food! It’s a tad pricey, but it’s not crazy by DC standards. My favorite are the samosas or crab pav. Definitely worth a visit if you like Indian food.
Food is delicious. But......$3.50 for a lame naan? Seriously? First time ever got charged for naan, and on top of that $3.50 for a small one (if they charge extra for that at least they could ask how many we wanted, they just brought 2), when asked if we wanted Naan, we said yes, but never expected to pay that kind of money for something that usually comes as a dinner compliment. So, if you decide to eat there, get prepared to be charged more than you expect. And the dishes are not cheap.....top that absurd price on NAAN! And surprise.......oh....and oily utensils and plates. Weird
The galauti kabob and lal Maas were on point. I’ve had these cuisines where they were invented (Lucknow and Udaipur) and they were pretty close, of course the taste was not the same but it had the essence of the cuisine captured. The staff was pretty helpful, the space was pretty cramped but I didn’t care about that. The dessert sucked, but the main course made up for it. I’d definitely visit this place again.
Fantastic food & experience! This is a warm, cozy, authentic restaurant. The drinks and food are top quality.
We went on a sat evening without a reservation and the lady in the front said it’s an hour of wait time. We have our names and went out but she called us in 15 minutes saying our table is ready. She was not very polite to us.Coming to the food, we ordered 4 items out of which two are ok and two are very good so it’s a mixed feeling.Samosa-2.5/5, they were very oilyAloo Pandi chat-2/5, it doesn’t have the tang flavor in it.Chilli Naan- This is excellent, if you are going here this is a must. Be careful it is spicy.Korma-The flavor and the taste was really good. Finally they had a good bar collection.
I cannot put into words how awesome this new resturant is, but Im going to try. Warm decor, friendly and well trained staff, and the foooooood. Literally ordered half the menu and not one dish wasnt wildy enjoyed by my date and I. The garlic nann, AhMayZing. The crab cake sliders with buns so cloud-like soft with meaty lump crab cakes and the right blend of spice, AhMayZing. The crispy shrimp, AhMayZing. The butter chicken and fish curry, AhMayZing. The house cocktails, AhMayZing. And the best part, the prices are not ridiculously inflated like so many restaurants on 14th. For two and as much as we ate and drank our total bill was under $100, thats almost unheard of in the DC restaurant scene these days. So if you love Rasika polish and refined scene, check out its cooler kid brother rocking out amazing food had the right prices because I already want to eat here again. 😋
Honestly, pretty disappointed. the biggest issue: menu did not list blue cheese as an ingredient for the boti kebab, and my wife is allergic -- not the ideal order, for her, it turns out. The crab prav we tried was very good, but most everything else was sadly very bland (we had the palak and vindaloo, and I tried the kebab my wife couldnt eat)fwiw we ordered delivery and perhaps our results suffered due to that?
Yummy food! great ambience and food presentation!
Food quality keeps dropping each month! Never going to this place again.
Food taste is average. Expensive as compared to qty they offer.
Everything we tried was amazing, and our waiter was great! Great location, great atmosphere, great food, dont sleep on this place!
The ambience is good .. we had to wait for our reserved table but the manager came up and apologised and gave us complimentary appetizers ( of our choice) . We got the lime soda , gulati kebab( was not what we were expecting , they were not soft but more like pattys)Our entrees were great lal maas( spicy very spicy but yum ) and mutter paneer( the paneer was great tasted so fresh ) for breads we had the garlic naan , plain naan( mention you don’t want butter ) and mint laccha paratha( I personally feel we could have passed that)For desserts we had rasmali and shahi tukda( both of which I felt were average)So if you ask me entrees were good, great quantity and taste wise . The appetizer atleast what we ordered were ok . Desserts I feel they can do better .But must go once and enjoy the great service and entrees 😊
TL;DR - Amazing food and drinks, great service and comfortable seating - easily one of the best North Indian fares Ive experienced in the US.Tried the Tandoori Gobi and Paneer Achari Tikka - the marination on the gobi was exquisite and the achar (Indian pickle) on the paneer transported me to a Dhaba in Punjab! The green chilly naan is a must-have for those seeking some of that Indian heat and the Missi Roti is a wonderfully unique addition to the menu. The Malai Kofta came highly recommended and we were not disappointed - people in our group who were not fond of koftas (dumplings) ended the meal craving for more! The drinks were great as well (even a basic mojito tasted brilliant) and the service was incredibly attentive and prompt (our waiter took the time to keep our toddler entertained and ensured we were well taken care of).Extremely chic ambience with comfortable seating and every area of the restaurant was kept sparkling clean. Prices are generally very reasonable for the DC area as well.If youre in the DMV region and love Indian food, Pappe DC should be in your top 3 restaurants to try out!
Food was mediocre, I have been here earlier. Seems like their quality has gone down
Phenomenal food, service, and ambience. I’d had been looking forward to visiting after learning about this restaurant from a friend, and I was more than pleased with the result. The spiced cauliflower (listed as Gobi Manchurian on the menu) was exquisite.
Soooo delicious! Their curbside is very easy and efficient. They forgot my chicken so I called back and they worked with me. Flavors are just so good! Great food and great costumer service. Will definitely go back.
This place was a fantastic find when I was visiting DC for work. Fantastic food and drinks too.
Nice and cozy atmosphere with fantastic food made by chef Sanjay. Enjoyed lamb kabob, veg.samosas and crab cake mini burger. Great customer service provided by attentive staff. Outside seating is available now! Cheers to the weekend.
Very poor service. Waited 1.5 hour for food. When the food was served it was cold. Coke had a weird smell and the breads were not made fresh.
Food was good, naan , specially the truffle naan were great, we had goat, lamb, spinach kofta, bhindi and gulab jamun for dessert, service was fantastic, Brand was specially nice and took care of our every little need. Cardamom gin was delicious. When you have so many choices in DC I think finding this gem was a lucky thing. I will be back and highly recommend others to go here at least once.
Authentic North Indian cuisine and good service. I have been here multiple times for lunch, drinks and dinner. Every visit has been excellent. The ingredients and spices taste high-quality and rich. Indian food is a personal favorite type of cuisine and this restaurant ranks among the best Ive had in 20 years of West and East coast living.
Pappe is a uniquely excellent restaurant. Food, service, decor, everything is great. The wait time was a bit long, even with a confirmed reservation, and space is cozy. However, the dining experience makes up for these small inconveniences. The food is probably the best I’ve had outside India. A must visit in DC.
This is by far my favorite Indian restaurant since coming to DC. I have never had a bad experience with food at the restaurant (have had take out numerous times). I will say the food is on the spicier side, which I love but isnt for everyone.
Amazing food and ambiance. Will definitely visit again when back in D.C.
We ordered tonight through Caviar and the restaurant canceled the order ONE HOUR after we submitted it. The app said the delivery person was there waiting and then suddenly it gets canceled. Caviar said it was because they were too busy. A full hour later. What a joke.
Samosa Chaat was amazing - best I have ever had. Did not get to try any other dishes
This place is delicious. I came solo as none of my colleagues wanted Indian food. So glad I did, its some of the best Ive had
Some of the best Indian Food I have had in quite some time. I had just looked this place up on Google maps and I am so happy I did. The was perfect (servers name: Michael R.) and the food was phenomenal. I had gotten the Goan Smoke which is a Inadn inspired mezcal drink and I liked it so much I had to get another. and the mushroom truffle nan was outstanding. I will surely come here every time in Im town.
A very posh India restaurant. Indian restaurant but mostly operates on American labor. Tastes of not all the items we ordered were great, but a few of them were good, a few were sub-par. Overall a mixed bag. A little bit on the pricier side also. Mostly paid street parking is available outside.
I love the food they serve here - it’s flavorful and delicious and I used to recommend everyone to come here because I love the food so much. But a recent dining experience will never make me go back again.I left my phone in the restaurant and realized as soon as I got home, roughly 10 minutes after as my friend had driven me back. Once I realized, I was able to contact my boyfriend to have him call the restaurant. I used my Find My iPhone which located the phone at Pappe. He called twice, and in those calls, the restaurant claimed that they had not seen a phone, that there were two people dining where I was sitting, and that they would “check later.”Instead of waiting, I simply went back to the restaurant. 40 minutes had elapsed since I was last there. No one was currently sitting where I had been sitting, and in 40 minutes, were they really able to clear the table, seat another set of guests (it wasn’t busy on a Tuesday evening), and clear their plates as well and swap with new plates and silverware? Then, it took me demanding to see a manager for someone to give me back my phone - I don’t know why it took 2 phone calls and an in person visit to actually “find it,” when it should have been found immediately because it was left on the seat. This is super shady behavior by the employees here and is so disappointing to see in an established business - a place you think would have a lot more integrity and a lot more care for its customers.Food is great, but be wary of the service. Looks like from other reviews that other shady behavior has been going on at Pappe.
This new Indian restaurant in Logan square is awesome. The ambience is fantastic. The decor great. We went in the early days, they had just opened. The servers still getting a hang of it. But the food is off the charts good.We had a few different starters, and each was awesome. The cauliflower starter is incredible. Perfectly done. The cocktails are really good. The main dishes, we had 4 or 5 and each was superb. The kitchen staff here have to be congratulated for the amazing fare. This place is going to have to be on the regular rotation. Great addition to the local scene.
Excellent food and service. Great ambience too. We enjoyed our meal so much we came back the next day with a larger group, and also referenced it to many other friends in our group, who enjoyed it! Definitely one of the best Indian restaurants Ive eaten at.
Pappe just raised the bar. DC has great Indian food options. Pappe is now probably the best Indian food restaurant in DC. The atmosphere and service make it a great day night option. Every dish we ordered was excellent and possibly the best version of each dish we have ever had. I will be back to try more stuff on the menu. Also the drinks were great also.
Great experience at this restaurant beginning with the host. It just got better and better. Our server, Bridgette, was fantastic. While I love the spicy flavorful food my spouse needed something a little less spicy. Bridgette was great at recommending things we could both enjoy. Closed the restaurant having a lot of laughs with Bridgette. Will definitely be back the next time we are in town.
There website and google say they close 11pm drove 40mis got there 09:50 and they told us they are closed even tho there door sign says 11pm. This is so inconvenient way do you have to do falls advertisement? Ok COVID happen I know you can simply update your page and sign.
Went for dinner here tonight, solo on a work trip, sitting at the bar. The bartender was awesome! Very nice, attentive and helpful. Great conversation — so I highly recommend for other road warriors who find themselves eating solo.I had the Butter Chicken and the Garlic Naan. Both were overwhelming amazing, but I had to dock a star for two very basic things that were easily avoidable and brought the overall quality of the experience down.First, the rice was dry. It was very unfortunate because it was very fragrant and otherwise good tasting, but dry rice just kind of ruins everything. Second, I found two small bones in the Butter Chicken. Not the end of the world, but they were of a concerning size because they could be a choking hazard.
Food was fine, but happy hour pricing was a bait and switch. The bar menu says $4 drafts but apparently it only applies to one of the five drafts, which they do not tell you. The bill arrived with my two draft beers at $8 each, which is when the bartender told me. I wasnt prepared to argue in the middle of a busy restaurant.
My family and I went here while we were visiting DC for my birthday. We are all vegan so sometimes visiting new restaurants can be difficult but our experience at Pappe was incredible! They had tons of vegan options and the server made ordering extremely easy. The food and service were both phenomenal and the space is beautiful. Loved it!
Great flavorful dishes. The lamb item that I ordered was a good cut of meat. I enjoyed the food here and will go back. The ambiance is nice, but could be better. I would give the food itself 4.5 out of 5.
Worst experience ever I had in dc. The servicing was pathetic. Even though the restaurant did not seem to be crowded but we were still made to wait for around 40 min and than the guy was even not sorry and was telling us that he took only 5 min and that we are lying. I understand that it might take time to take the order some time but the behavior of the guy was so un welcoming. I wish I could leave the negative ratings.
