Chamundamata is a form of Parvati. There is a legend behind the mothers name Chamunda. The origin of the mothers name is narrated in the Durga Saptashati. When the goddess refused, he attacked the goddess. Then the goddess took her black form and took the asuras to Yamlok. The mothers name became Chamunda due to killing both of them.
