We love this Campground! We had a wonderful time at site 12! Its super big for four families! We have enough room to play games!Its very clean! No matter bathroom or campsite. There is enough private space to other neighbors.!But if you want to go hiking, your campsite reservation doesnt work. You have to walk to the trail site or take a hiking reservation....

This was the start of our hike to Mitchell lake. We had to reserve a parking spot 2 weeks ahead of time and and then walk for a mile to Mitchell lake trail head

This campground is great, it is clean and well maintained. There are many trails there and the view is beautiful.I went there on 7/23 and there are few tips for tent campers who never been there:1. Weather: afternoon thunderstorm is common in summer.2. Temperature: its warm in daytime, but chill at night, about 50F in my tent.3. Bear safety: bears will visit the campsite during the night, not sure its regularly or randomly. I left my water tank on the picnic table and a bear bit it during the night.4. Firewood: there are plenty of wood around the campsite, bring a hatchet or saw if you want to cut the wood by yourself.

Large pines tower over most campsites. Clean park, clean drop-pots, quiet, water is available, the mountains and wildlife are ok at best.

Very nice and quiet place. Beautiful lakes, where you can walk. My favorite lake is the Blue Lake. Try to get there in August, when not all the ice on it has melted. Floating aisbergs and blue water are great. And the camp itself is very good. Warm days and cold nights, give pleasure near the fire in the summer months. Around you can see beautiful flowers, deer, moose and beautiful birds.

Pawnee CG is perfectly located in Brainard Lake Rec. Area for camping, hiking, fishing, exploring nature, and photo opportunities. Great for a base-camp with several lakes, and trailheads within walking distance. Campground is VERY WELL MAINTAINED by the campground hosts. The hosts I had contact with for the walk-in campsite I had were super friendly! Also very knowledgeable of the area. I couldnt recommend a better place for a parent to take children of all ages for a first camping experience.

Absolutely loved the campground!! Despite all the beetlekill and wildfires, this campground has trees and shade everywhere (there is one area that is completely in the open in the loop right in front of the walk in sites, but these spots seems to be meant for big campers and rvs). We stayed at walk in site 4 and I highly recommend any of the walk in sites. They all have LOTS of shade and good trees for hammocks, but also lots of privacy and space between neighbors. The regular sites are also very shady and nice, but a little close to one another depending on which loop youre in. The walk in sites have the creek running right behind them, as well as paths running along side it you can use to hike to the day use area and farther. The creek had some beaver dams and a big variety of pretty flowers, it was also a cool spot to chill during the hot hours of the day. You can also hike to the lake and walk around it/use one of the picnic sites sprinkled along side it, or use one of the many trailheads close by ( if you hike from camp it is probably a mile/2miles to the trailhead, but its an easy walk)As for the bathrooms, these are probably the cleanest vault toilets I have seen in my entire life. Hosts cleaned them 1-2 times a day, so even as a huge germaphobe I had no issue using them. There was also NO flies or bugs inside, which was amazing in itself!!!As a native Coloradan, this site checked all my boxes for a good campground. Great for tent camping or RV/trailer camping, amazing scenery and wildlife, if youre looking for a campground that isnt too long of a drive/too far into the mountains or even just a nice place to camp for a while, Pawnee is for you!

Peaceful wilderness the best of Colorado.

Great area for the campers. Located next to Brainard Lake in the Indiana Peaks Wilderness area. This area sees a lot of visitors not just because of the mountains and lakes, but the moose. Visitors need to remember they are wild animals.

Staff here is amazing! We had some car issues and the staff went above and beyond to take care of us. Truly some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Coming back just because of them.

Hosts do a great job keeping the facilities clean. The sites are large and many have trees. Just a beautiful campground.

Brilliant campsite! Our area was beautifully surrounded by tall pine trees, near a clean bathroom, with well-designed sections to park our car, cook & eat (picnic table, bbq stand, fire pit), and pitch a tent. The host was very nice and helpful, and the location was very close to the lake and trailheads. We arrived Saturday afternoon and surprisingly found one spot available (whew!).

Awesome campground. Kind of close camping spots and quite time is at 10pm. Only about a 5 or less minute walk to the lake, but there is great parking options and plenty of trail access and beauty to take in! All in all its a great campground with accommodations for all those of campers!

Great place to camp. Very clean campground. Get there early on the weekends to grab a first come first serve spot, they fill up fast. Trailheads are nearby for excellent hiking

Clean venue and facilities. Had to pay with cash or check when showing up day of, so that was a little bit of a downer as we spent a fair bit of time trying to find an ATM that worked. Short walk to the lake which has absolutely beautiful views. Looks like there was fly fishing along the creek as well.

Beautiful countryside, peaceful surroundings. Restrooms were always well maintained, and the volunteer staff is incredibly friendly.Weather turns on a dime on the mountainside, so be prepared for near daily afternoon precipitation - including marble sized hail.

Beautiful place with amazing trails

Great location and camp site. There is a charge to go up to Brainard lake and then an additional charge for camping- $19 for a lot- which is pretty pricey for single travelers. It would be great if they had an open space with a more affordable option.

Got the best, in my opinion, first-come, first-serve spot. What a blast! Amazing views. The reduced number of parking places means an early arrival is a necessity but well worth it.

Well maintained, but I thought the campsites were a bit too close together for my liking.

This is a beautiful campground and park. The staff are friendly and welcoming. They even allowed me to tap into their wi-fi to download a file for work. I really appreciated their assistance.Very Nice.

Clean facilities, with great views

I camped here and I took my Toy-Hauler... In my Toy-Hauler I had my KTM Dual sport street bike. I left the campground on the bike on the second day and went for a motorcycle ride down the peak to peak highway and some dirt roads.On my return to the campground; the lady at the gate refused to let me back in, she said motorcycles and ATVs are not allowed in national parks. I explained this was a licensed and insured motor vehicle just like a car or truck and that she was mistaking a non-titled and licensed OHV vehicle for a licensed vehicle.I was stranded at the gate, I didnt have cell coverage to call anyone and my bike was low on fuel and I could not make it to town. I finally told her to call the Sheriff and we could work it out and I drove back to my campground. When I got back; it just so happened that the district manager for American land and leisure was in our campground. I talked to our camp host and he confirmed with the district manager that the women at the gate was mistaken. Overall this camp trip was very unpleasant due to this issue...
