The monastery was founded by St. Dadi, a disciple of Thaddeus the Apostle who spread Christianity in Eastern Armenia during the first century AD. However, The monastery was first mentioned in the 9th century. In June, 2007, the grave of St. Dadi was discovered under the holy altar of the main church. The princes of Upper Khachen are also buried at Dadivank, under the churchs gavit. The Monastery belongs to the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, and consists of the Cathedral church of St. Astvadzadzin, the chapel and a few other buildings. The main church has Armenian script engraved into its walls, in addition to several 13th century frescoes. The bas-relief on the south facade of the cathedral at Dadivank, built in 1214, shows the princess offering the church in memory of her sons. According to Paolo Cuneo, Dadivank is one of two Monasteries along with Gandzasar where bust motifs (possibly the donors of the monasteries) can be found. On 8 October 2001, motion 9256 was proposed (but not discussed, let alone approved) at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on behest of sixteen parliamentary members. According to the motion, the local Muslim population regarded as remnants of the Armenian Christian religion and ruined the monastery as it could.

Its pretty nice and pristine place, no visitors, not sure how it is connected, we went there on the taxi. I think it was still under reconstruction when I visited it in 2011.Its ancient monastery and school. Not far from there you can have a bath in hot springs near place called Zuar. The springs are called Tak Jur and they are great.

Dadivank or Hutavank. The first name is associated with the name of St. Dadi, who preached Christianity in the west of Armenia and was a disciple of the Apostle Thaddeus - one of the seventy disciples of Christ. According to legend, the monastery was built over his grave. The second name comes from the Armenian Hut (hill) and wank (monastery): monastery on the hill.

According to tradition, the church was founded by Christs apostle Thaddeus in the 1st century. During the excavations carried out during the renovation of Dadivank, on July 21, 2007, the relics of the Holy Apostle Dade were found under the altar of one of the churches of the monastery. In the 9th century, the first structures of the monastery complex were built in the person of St. Dadis single-nave monastery. The complex was destroyed by the Seljuks in 1145, but was renovated in 1170.

Dadiwank Monastery, also known as Khutavank or Chotavank (Monastery on the Hill), is a monastery of the Armenian Apostolic Church. The monastery is located in a wooded area in the Nagorno-Karabakh province of Shahumyan. The monastery church dates from 1214.Legend has it that St. Thaddäus, a Christian martyr, was buried within the walls of the monastery, which is said to have been founded at the end of the 1st century by a disciple of the apostle Judas Iskiarot. The monastery was first mentioned in documents in the 9th century. In 1994 the monastery was re-consecrated and serves the diocese of Arzach. The complex consists of the main church Surb Astvatsatsin (dedicated to the Blessed Mother), a chapel and other outbuildings. The sight of the monastery arouses wild and romantic feelings. The stone of the monastery walls and buildings looks like a contemporary witness of earlier millennia. Three different towers with pointed roofs give the property an almost castle-like defensive character. Inside there are also wall paintings and golden reliefs, which also enliven the place sacred and artistically.A specialty among the old monasteries and still active.
