If you need to speak to a counselor, good luck. They are severely lacking and can’t seem to manager their time between virtual and in person. I doubt they know how to theirs jobs at the Virginia Beach campus. To speak to one in person you are looking at a 2 and half hour wait or more. Those office people don’t seem care about the students. You would be better off attending another college. The Virginia Beach campus needs new administration personnel. Fire and get rid of them all and we can do everything online. Why even have the buildings.

Most unhelpful college, go to a University if you have the money and financial assistance, many of emails later and they still dont respond to common questions, no advising, what do they even pay the staff for? Hands down the worst college in VB

I usually don’t usually post reviews but dealing with the financial aid office has been absolutely terrible. Most people don’t seem to care or they aren’t sure what they’re doing or they pass it off to someone else. I understand now why the dropout rate is so high here because it’s been nothing but stressful dealing with them.

If you plan on going here, plan on being unaided in every step of the process. Good luck receiving accurate information from their counseling and financial aid departments.I called the financial aid center in order to conform that my student loan was accepted and ready for use. The lady I spoke with said yes it is and when I register for my classes the the balance will automatically be applied to the loan. The following day I receive an email stating that all my classes have been dropped due to failure to pay for my classes. I reach out to the online support center for assistance and they inform me that I never received any loans, nor have I applied for one. This information is so conflicting it hurts to think about. Now it is Friday, Im left with utterly useless information and the offices will not open again till Tuesday. Deadlines for registration is upon me and Im left with absolutely no assistance. I acknowledge that I should have started this process sooner; with that being said, if the staff would have given me accurate information and guidance to begin with none of this would have been an issue.

I am pleased to have attended TCC and find their staff to always be professional. Many have gone out of their way to find ways to assist me with the courses that I needed to succeed. Its true that you get what you give in life: I wish many happy returns for the guidance provided by TCC.

I am rating one star for the experience I had in the counseling specifically the staff named Michelle Barnes. I needed some help and I was just asking a question to one of the staff in the information area when she suddenly barged in and rudely and loudly spoke to me and answered my questions. There were people in there and heard how loud she answered my questions in a rude manner. As per the information staff, she is their ”boss”. Ms. Barnes probably know about her job really well but she doesnt know how to act appropriately. I cant believe she works for counseling if she doesnt have enough patience to deal with the students matter.

Honestly very disappointed and frustrated at this point. I had a great experience with Kathy Gieb taking the CNA and CMA certification courses, BUT everything else after that has been a nightmare.I took an A+P course in Spring 2020 and halfway through they switched to online due to covid. The teachers were NOT prepared. I know they did the best they could but I signed up for an in person course because I know that I do not learn well online. You cant even take the A+P course online during normal circumstances. When I contacted the college to see if I could finish the class later or get a partial refund/credit I was told I would have to actually catch covid or not be able to participate in class due to lack of technological needs. Then I was told that I cant ask for a refund on a class simply because I didnt get the grade I wanted. This, to me, was very insulting and accusatory. When I called I was holding onto an A average and actually got a 96 on the mid term of this difficult class and my grade plummeted to barely a C due to my inability to learn online, the lack of support from the college to assist people in this position, and the fact I was pulling extra hours at work as a healthcare provider to deal with the pandemic. These are all the reasons why I asked for a refund or credit as soon as they switched to online because I had already predicted the outcome. The only compensation given was the option for a pass/fail versus a letter grade. I emailed the dean on the support email that was sent out to students after talking to multiple staff members explaining my situation and the email was BLOCKED.I called the radiography program to see if they were making any exceptions due to covid involving pushing back the application deadline or a temporary allowance of the acceptance of a pass/fail and was told that no exceptions were being made. I decided to take the loss and pay for the class again when classes became available in person again. It is now Fall 2020 and no in person classes are being held, the deadline for the program is still in December, and I will have to wait another year to apply the program and a year and a half in order to even start the two year program. Again, no exceptions are being made. No wiggle room at all.I am severely disappointed at how TCC has handled this pandemic. They have shown they have no interest in their students and how their lack of adjustment can push a persons goals back for years. They seem to only care about the money they provide and how long they can keep a person purchasing classes from them. From a working college I expected way better.

I went there today to see about there programs of study in the healthcare field. The entire staff treated me so poorly and unprofessionally I was shock. There staff will talk to you behind gates and walls. Not to mention, they’ll look at you like you are crazy. Just a very distasteful school. And a very bad experience on the staff part. I didn’t appreciate my visit there at all. I can tell that there staff is only there for a check. I would never consider them a option again. TCC DO BETTER TOWARDS PEOPLE. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT POTENTIAL STUDENT YOUR LETTING GO.

As a former high school counselor, I would recommend TCC to anyone who wants a great education at a very reasonable tuition rate. I started this January at the arts center. The instructors are kind, patient, helpful and just overall wonderful. The other students are also so nice and helpful. I would recommend TCC to anyone, especially those going into the art field. I can honestly say, having three degrees behind my name, (Masters, BA and RN) that this is one of the best institutions that I have had the pleasure of taking courses at.

Dont go for their motorcycle basic rider course. Its held by the most unprofessional instructor Barry Pless. The dudes only there for his pay check; bragging about being paid $24/hr. His boss Lois Rollins wont give refunds and would be happy to keep you in their program so long as you keep paying them $130 for the basic rider course. Get your motorcycle license elsewhere.

I recently finished my program here and it truly is a wonderful school. I had to transfer in some coursework from out of state and although some courses didn’t transfer over, I was still able to complete my program in my desired timeframe. The counselors advise you on what specific courses you need to take and the counselors I’ve spoken to were always pleasant. The professors are amazing and I really felt that they cared about my education and overall experience at TCC. I would definitely recommend this school.

As a student entering your first year of college, please do NOT expect any assistance with their New and improved guidance office!! Entering their new admin building, you are greeted by so many nice people willing to help through your enrollment.... the programs are good... you have to be careful... guidance will tell you one thing and/or get stuck in the Developmental courses for English and Math... and forget the career services department... after completing some architectural studies courses I transferred over to ITT Technical Institute for “drafting and Design Technologies” which had a better career services and better classes unfortunately they are now closed... I’m now in the process of applying to the Conway School for there ecological design program... I’m self employed as a landscaper/Ecological Designer for the Curb Appeal Fixers in Hampton Roads area, so it all worked out...

I would like to take a health profession program at TCC. I have tried multiple times but since I live in NC, they dont even want my transcripts to put me on there point system. They tell me right from the start I have no chance of going to school there without any of my school background. I would take the course else where but the only college that offers this program is at least 2 hours away. I could go for a 4 yr degree Im a single mother who cant afford to go to school for 4 yrs.

Entering their new admin building, you are greeted by so many nice people willing to help through your enrollment.... UNTIL you get to the brick wall they call financial aid desk! They are rude, uninterested, and seem bothered by questions?! Save the headache and go somewhere else entirely! I can only assume this lack of professionalism could also be why TCC has the lowest graduation rates in the area!

Always always always get a second opinion on your courses and course requirements for your degree. I cant tell you how many times a counselor messed up pretty really badly. Also; always check reviews on teachers. Theres some really good ones and some really terrible ones. Otherwise, this is a classic community college. You get what you pay for.

Do not by any means spend your money here with any hopes of getting it back by the tuition refund drop date if you drop your class and have paid for it in cash like myself, well in advance. The financial aid department will hold on to your money far into the semester. New policies have made it so that cash payments are disbursed similar to loans. You wont see that money until closer to the Holidays. This place is great to go to and save money before heading to University.--Side note I love all of the facilities that have been built and some of the changes to the Virginia Beach campus--. But, be prepared, save yourself grief and possibly apply for loans in the event that you might attend. Youll have your money in your pocket at the end when you need it.Update: I paid with my own funds on 7/31 for a class that I later dropped before the class even started. It was 9/24 before the funds were returned to my bank account.

TCC is good as far as the teachers and courses go. The counselors are also okay. They are rushed and seem kind of disinterested and are impossible to get a hold of though. For someone taking online specific courses, driving 45 minutes to come into campus every time I need to speak with someone simply isnt an option. The worst part about TCC is definitely the other administrative offices. Financial aid in particular is abismal. They have no information, never actually put in any work to get anything done, and consistently will tell you to go to other places to get the info you requested even if it is specific to financial aid. When you get to another office theyll tell you financial aid should have helped and that they cant do anything for you. The run around goes on over and over and over. They are making it a million times harder for students to succeed and get their degrees. It really should be changed.

This place is a joke. I have taken several classes through this place over the past several years. I can honestly say I have never had a good experience with any staff at any of there offices. They do not care about the student all they care about is they are getting money from you. THE STAFF IS THE MOST RUDE UNPROFESSIONAL PEOPLE you will ever meet. It is constantly a run around with them when you are in need of help. They will claim they dont deal with a certain problem here go talk to so and so over here. you get there and the person they told you to go see doesnt deal with the problem. I can say I have enrolled at Columbia Southern this year and it is night in day with them. everyone I have been in contact with over the phone has been able to help me the same day and there has been no problems. The most problems I have had is again with TCC not helping as they use a third party company for there transcript and the info they sent me was wrong but yet according to tcc they have nothing to do with it. My advise dont waist your time with TCC try to find a online collage that fits what you are looking for.

The financial aid office is HORRIBLE! The counselors are HORRIBLE! You will waste years and years trying to get a simple, associates degree because of TCC and their lack of assistance they provide you. They always make you drive, to speak with someone in person....who cant conduct business via Skype, email, messenger these days?! Its beyond belief. They wont tell you what you actually NEED to do, theyll allow you to take classes you dont need or shouldnt have taken, and then sit back, and say, oh well when you have problems receiving your financial aid because of it! I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone who doesnt own a car. They make you come back and forth, over and over....complete run around, even if you are enrolled in the online courses. It gets too costly and too much time wasted waiting for the bus, paying Uber or Lyft or asking people to drive you over there. A complete overhaul of the financial aid office is desperately needed and the tired workers need to be trained in how to communicate for THIS century.

The teachers are great so far but the workers at the bookstore are terrible. A lady at the student information desk did not want to help me and argued with me. After arguing with her, she gave me the wrong information for my financial aid.I ended up using someone else’s financial aid (because the other person’s middle name was different but our first and last names were the same). I went to the financial aid desk and tried to correct this but ended up in another argument. At the end of the day, I technically walked out of the store with items for free at the expense of someoneelse’s money, so I shouldn’t be complaining.Your staff can be easily tricked since they can’t read properly. Also, make sure your female staff is off of their periods before they go to work so they don’t argue with students over trivial matters.

Some counselors will take you for all your worth if you let them by encouraging you take extra classes that seem irrelevant. (ex:NAS2, a class that teaches the first three chapters of your bio 101 book) Another example is taking a supplemental english class while also taking eng111, as recommended by the counselor(never a good idea to take two English classes at once). Although my experiences at TCC have been positive so far , I know of plenty of people whove had their finances taken advantage of (thus, three stars) and its taken them much longer to graduate. I will say that with the spring FASFA audits, they shouldnt be able to push people into those extra time consuming classes to make an extra buck as easily. Again, Ill say that my experiences with them have been relatively good. Take my advise:sign up for classes early with plenty of time to get to each one, always have a plan before you talk to a counselor (use SIS), study, and before you enroll in a class check rate my professor! This has guaranteed results that you want in your experiences at TCC.
