LOLARK KUND .Of all the places in the ancient city, Lolark Kund in Varanasi is very mysterious indeed. It is a small pond of water made ages ago, but what surprises a contemplative visitor is the source of its water supply. So, the Lonark Kund does not get its supply of water from a river, the rain or the sea, but from the underworld known as Paatal Loka in the local language. There is a Shiva Temple attached to the kund which makes it clear its connection with the trident-wielding god.

Lolark kund (temple which is located on the tulsi ghat)It is believed that centuries ago a huge meteorite was dropped here due to which the Kund came into existence, since then people had believed that the sun’s fragment had fallen here. And also there is a small shiva temple beside this lolark kund temple which has got beautiful historic paintings on the walls.

Amazing structure. It seems that the water level is fluctuating a lot, thus the well has been dug deeply with stairs leading towards the water level from three directions.

A very ancient kund nearby Rani Lakshmibai ghat and also closed to Assi ghat. The structure is amazing. Water is coming from River Ganga and water level fluctuates as per the Gangas level. Its is believed that taking a bath in this kund on Lolark chhat (comes in bhadrapad month as per hindu calendar) people will be blessed with child.

Lolark Kund Also known as the Lolark Teerth in the past, this is a place where it is believed by Hindus a bath goes a long way with respect to pious religious devotion. Named after Lolark Aditya, it is the site for many to come and pray for a son/offspring by taking a dip in the waters at sunrise. There are steps leading to the Kund from three sides and a well –like formation on the fourth side. Festival months see huge amounts of devotees visit this site too. Barely half a mile away, there also sits a much revered temple dedicated to Durga Devi that one must visit irrespective of tourist or pilgrim status

This is an incredible place that we landed up in. I have been to Varanasi several times and visited all the revered temples a number of times, but this find was too good to visit/explore. Accessed by narrow lanes, as is the story of all places in Varanasi, this complex has a kund, meaning Well, that is 7-storeys below. It is believed that couples who are unable to give birth to a child, can come here and take a bath, following which they are guaranteed to have a baby. This immensely believed place sees more than 30000 couples flocking the place to get a bath. The wait time is immense but the results are definitely fruitful, goes by the belief of such large number of people. Apart from the above story, the water of the well is clean. There is a Shiv Mandir inside the premises as well.
